Speaker recommendations

I have Logitech Z-680 speakers patiently waiting for my G5 to arrive today. In the meantime, they're connected to by B&W G5 *and* my gaming HP. Since I can connect the G5 to the speakers optically, all three computers will have their own input. The 5.1 sounds amazing! Doom 3 on the HP in surround sound was out of this world. MP3s come to life. I can't wait to hook up the G5 and start jamming in GarageBand.

I received my G5 and then realized I have no speakers. Does anyone have any recommendations? I want a good sound but I am not an audiophile...I do video editing and therefore sound there too, and I want to play my mp3s and for them to sound good. But I don't think that's too much to ask. I was looking to stay under 200. Thanks in advance!

Congrats... :) very envious :( you should have it by now!!!!!!!!!

but curious who the reseller is... if would be so kind

Yep, got it now. Typing on as we speak. :)

Been waiting for a new mac since November so its been a long, long wait.

I got it from Jigsaw24 based in Nottingham. I had to jump through some serious hoops to get this mac and I'm now on first name terms with most of their staff. At the rate it was going I was speaking mor to my rep than my girlfriend ;)

In the end I had to change my order to a CTO as they only had three CTO's come in yesterday that were not allocated to anybody. 2 had no superdrive and one was stock but with no modem. Guess which I went for? ;)

I'm really not that sure about how many they will have in the near future as they do have a samll list of people waiting but give a guy called Rob Williams a call, you can get their number from www.jigsaw24.com. He has been most helpful.

First impressions.

1. Looks stunning, inside and out. Never seen so much attention to detail inside a computer before.

2. Woooahhhh... thats some noise. You certainly know when the fans kick in. Pretty much silent most of the time though. Ran hardware test. Passed ok but made a mighty racket whilst doing it.

3. Speed wise, haven't had much chance to do anything yet. I do highend retouching/post-production so I'm sure it will be test soon enough.

2 Questions, where do I get that temperature monitor thingy, and have most people upgraded to 10.3.5 now?

Hey guys,

FINALLY got the G5 this morning! I plan to post temps soon. BUT first, I have a problem - I used the "transfer files and settings" option upon startup to transfer everything from my Powerbook - and one of the things that transferred was that the battery icon shows up in my menu bar. Problem is, on the G5 I can't turn the battery icon OFF because the box to check or uncheck it doesn't exist in the Energy Saver panel! Can anyone help??

never mind.....

turns out I can just drag it outta there with a control-drag. thanks macosxhints!

Man I know its only 9:00 AM my time, but my shipping status says on or before 9-3. Im going to be nervous of a delay untill i get that darn email. Does anyone remember what time of day they got their shipping notice on their estimated ship date?

Patience is dead at this point.

waiting time shortened by one computer

June 9 6:59PDT – ordered 2.5G, 1G, Bluetooth
July 28 – Ship date changed to August 20
August 19 – G5 shipped from Ca.
August 23 – G5 arrived and passed the extended test
Aug 28 – G5 froze up and wouldn’t restart, power light wouldn’t even stay on
Aug 29 – G5 declared DOA by Apple
Aug 31– Finally received FedEx return documents after two more calls to Apple
September 1– Shipped G5 via FedEx back to apple. Gave tracking number to Apple, put back on waiting list
September 2 – Checked the Apple web site, the on or before ship date is now Oct 20
September 3 – Called Atlanta Apple Store, they have stock G5 in stock. Got mad and cancelled my order with Apple. And requested a refund. Ordered an upgrade for my Quicksilver. May rethink getting a G5 when the 3.0s come out in a couple of months. Maybe I’ll give up computers altogether. To bad Apple, you screwed the pooch - again

grrr!! Will it be delayed until late october even if it was order late August? That would be over a two month wait ahhh! Sigh. So frustrating!!! I love apple to bits but this 2.5 fiasco is a nightmare!

I just hope my 2.5 and 23" display will be worth the wait! (i'm sure it will).

oh boo whooo :p

some of use have been waiting since june... chances are yours will ship before the june orders anyways. :D

Just in time for the hurricane! Got it unboxed, fired up to migrate data and now back in the box and wrapped in plastic until Frances passes. Noticed it's quieter than my lonley 1.8Ghz which I thought was almost silent already.
My CDW rep told me they got 120 or so but had over 200 back orders so there's still a big shortage. Ordered mine 8/8/04 so about 3 weeks wait.

nice... you made many enemy's here :)

I called at 9:00 EST and after being put on hold while i was transferred to a customer service rep i was told he had to wait for his supervisor to come to attempt to expedite the order.

So now I'm waiting for them to call back.

If they miss the 9/3 ship date I'm just going to cancel and wait for the next revision. I'm not going to have any time to use it after school starts on tuesday anyway.

At this point its just not worth it.

You may end up waiting another year or even longer for the next revision. the way the 2.5 turned out i doubt IBM will be ready anytime soon to produce a 3.0 GHz.

I'm sorry to hear about the problem that you have incurred. Did Apple confirm that they would cancel and refund your money? I hope that giving up computers is sarcasm due to your current experience. At least you will have the update Quicksilver to enjoy.

If others are correct, we may have a long wait for a G5 3.0.

My ship date is still 9/17.

I called Apple Sales 3 times yesterday and then 5 times today when my ship date hadn't changed back to 9/3 before deciding that they were wholly unable to fix it.

I discovered that what they have done (delaying my ship date without notifying me) is in violation of certain FTC Regulations concerning deception: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/policystmt/ad-decept.htm

I managed to get through to Apple's legal department who then transferred me to customer relations where I filed a complaint. They said they would call me back within two hours.

I doubt they will be able to get my machine out today, but at least they should be able to make up for the delay.

I am getting a little confused here. Are the 9/3 orders for machines with NV6800's? Are we now starting to see 6800's shipping to customers who have ordered them.

Nope, it's only their machine with a replacement 9600xt in. No Nvidia cards until late october i'm afraid

The stand alone 6800 card still reads 9/17 on my order.

Then again we all know what thats worth.

There’s a Stock 2.5 available at the Lennox Square Apple Store in Ga.
We got a huge shipment of these. Had them in stock for about a month straight. Same with minis.

Hey Jim, why don't you send some of them to our poor belgian resellers.. they would actually be able to sell something then. :D

recursivejon, we are almost in the same boat. We both have the same ship date (9/17), although initially had the 9/3 ship date (or earlier if you want to count those too). I will be looking for your IT SHIPPED post as I hope it comes soon!

Also, according to Nvidia's website, IBM also fabricates and manufactures Nvidia graphics cards. I suppose this would be directly correlated with the delays of both the G5s and 6800. Kinda unfortunate that such delays in Big Blue's fabrications had to happen during the high point of Mac computing. :(

Yeah but where you got your email splitting your order into the 9600 and 6800 a few days ago, I got mine on 8/19.

If anyone is clueless as to what I am talking about, here is he e-mail I received on 8/19:

Where did you get that from, Apple have moved my BTO to 9/13 "Confirmed" ... butso were the last two dates. Late October seems a long way away.

I have not been offered a 9600 with a 6800 to follow, I don't think that offer is available outside of the USA :( I want bluetooth so I cannot go to a re-seller because they only stock standard models eoither, although there are none with re-sellers in the UK either.

It's driving me crazy the machine I am typing this on is EOL, and I would take immediate delivery of one with a 9600, but that offer isn't available...unless you know differently. If you have recieved that offer in the UK please post it and let us know.
