When are People getting Notification?

I also got an email that stated 9/3 and 9/17 for computer and card. My order status online says 9/17 for both. NO ONE can answer why. Finally someone in payments said that the unit is built boxed and waiting to ship. She said that it might go today and to watch my email.

2 hours later the normal cust service people still said 9/17 9/17 for both. I am die hard apple, but by HE11 someones head ought to roll for the confustion. I dont mind waiting , I dont. I DO mind being not being able to get anything more than a company line! I DO mind getting different messages from different departments.

When are others getting their notification? Early ? late?

Sigh....... watching my email, watching the window, watching my B&WG3 feel older and older....

I'm sorry to hear about the problem that you have incurred. Did Apple confirm that they would cancel and refund your money? I hope that giving up computers is sarcasm due to your current experience. At least you will have the update Quicksilver to enjoy.

Thanks for your concern. Yes Apple has agreed to a refund and yes there is some sarcasm.
If this was my only bad experience with Apple I probably wouldn’t be so utterly disgusted.
About 8 months ago I purchased a 1Ghz 17" Powerbook G4. $3,295.00. One week (8 Days) later apple dropped the price of the Powerbook to $2,795.00 when they came out with the 1.25Ghz 17" Powerbook priced at $2,995.00 ($300 less, faster and a 80Gig drive instead of 60, a 4X DVD burner instead of 1X) I called Apple and they said "Sorry there was nothing they could do."
During the current G5 fiasco, when I reminded them of that experience, they say that the person back then was wrong, but of course it’s safe to say that now. Bool

My nice letter.
Argh, I can’t believe you Apple.

I called earlier today and spoke to a lady, who said that my order looked good and ready to ship today, Friday the 3rd of September. Little did she know, I also got an email tonight saying the G5 Dual 2.5GHz machine was not able to ship until the 14th. I’ve waited 2 months for this computer, and now I’m back to school.. and am without a Mac for video production class. I’m still wondering what I should do, if I should make this a huge issue because she said it was shipping today, or if I should just cancel my order and badmouth Apple. I’ve done nothing but brag about my Apple purchases, but this is the second order you guys have messed up with shipping.

What should I do, huh?!
My web order number is W8752269

Thanks (for nothing),
Kenny Pollock

Well, I heard from my reseller today (after my shipdate for a stock 2.5 [except for opting for the 250 G HD] was pushed from yesterday to 25 October) and was told their supplier is only getting a handful of G5's a week.

So, I have put myself on the waiting list for a stock 2.5 G5 at the Apple Store in Willow Bend (Dallas-Plano-Frisco--it's all the same) and was told there are only three folks ahead of me. With any luck, we should get a call sometime next week.

IBM must be out melting pennies down for the copper--no that can't be right--pennies are now just copper-coated zinc; rigging up some kid's Erector Set for their automated assembly line; and making 970fx's at the rate of 10 per week. Sheesh.

An Idea...

Apple web order numbers appear to get larger chronologically, if we kept track of the first three digits of the orders then we might be able to determine who's ship date is coming up while keeping out order numbers private.

Mine are 856.

Edit: Then again... this goes for any order on the online store so its just as accurate as going by day, never mind.

None of us like what's been happening with this shipping date fiasco; but at least for those of us who can wait a little longer can opt for the $100 discount when threatening to cancel the order. Thank you to those of you who have informed us of this little secret.

I got the letter as well, and to say the least, I'm extremely p*ssed!!

Does anyone know if there are delays for the 2.0 G5s?

Yours is the first comment that I have heard about the 2.0 G5 being delayed. The best thing is to give Apple a call. The phone call are bound to catch their attention. Try to have a stern positive attitude.

Kenny Pollock, you should also give Apple a call and mention what has happened. Hopefully you have a name. I always try to get a name when making an important phone call.

hi wd!
actually, i ordered the 2.5 as well (july 12th, to be exact) - now that i've had time to vent, i can post a comment that isn't based on the negative emotions i had when i read the e-mail / heard the voicemail (from an overly happy customer service rep.)

although i'm mad, i realize that there are still orders ahead of mine, which haven't been shipped. i feel sorry for these people the most.. those who ordered in june, and are still waiting for their g5 to arrive. partly the reason why i haven't called and threatened to cancel my order.

i ordered the g5 in july, thinking, assuming, that it'd ship before school started. yet, here we are.. school starting next week, and no g5. checking apple's website, it appears the dual 1.8's are backordered till late october - thanks to the new imacs. the dual 2.0 have a shipping est. of 3 business days. i'm tempted to move down, and order a 2.0, so i have a machine for school. but, this fiasco with the 2.5 have me questioning apple's shipping estimates. is that 3 - 5 bus. days going to turn into 3-5 weeks?

ultimately, i'm probably not going to cancel. i've waited this long. followed this forum. shared the joy and excitement of other members receiving their 2.5 (all of the pictures are great! helps me visualize my setup!) as well as the frustration of knowing that apple does NOT ship in order (even though EACH bump they specifically say, "Please rest assured that we fulfill all orders in the order they are received.")
So yeah. I'll call tomorrow and try to act angry in an attempt to get some money off. maybe even threaten to cancel. unless the rep i'm talking to sounds extremely pissed. then it probably wouldn't work, as he'd probably just respond

"okay, let me cancel that for you.."
"wait.. no.. uh.. i don't want to cancel.."
"but you just said you did.."
"actually.. i just want some compensation for the delay?"
"sorry.. apple doesn't compensate.."
"really? just like you guys ship in order!" (in a sarcastic tone, of course!)
"i've cancelled your order sir. if you'd like a 2.5, please re-order.."
"what?!? NO!"

:)

I ordered a Revision B Dual 2.0 from my reseller the day they were announced. After three weeks I had return it because of serious problems. It has now been a month since I sent it back. Apple has replaced both processors and the logic board and the problem remains (only with long processor intensive processes - not a good flaw for an editing and encoding computer). The problem remains.
According to my reseller, there is a serious issue with the many of the recent batches of G5s. I wonder, has the number of people who are getting shipping notifications dropped?

When the error was displayed, was there any more specific information about it? Without knowing the kind of error, it's hard to make any suggestions. However, you could try running First Aid in Disk Utility to make sure there are no problems with the files you a trying to copy. You can also try Repair Disk Permissions.

In spite of the error, everything came over that I needed. I had to search through some folders, but the important things, that would take a lot of copying and editing came over.

The firewire is a fast way to do it. :D

I am loving this machine - so quiet. the only time it acts up is when I am installing a program, and then it calms down to a very faint purr - much quieter than my G4.
:p

I am also glad I got the cinema display - it looks so good with everything and the picture is wonderful. I got the creatures speakers and have such a great sound. I am in the process of installing the camera software*so I can download pictures.

I hope you all get your G5's soon. It was worth the wait!

As for repairing disk permissions, I have done this twice already, and it really cleared up some strange things that happened during installation of a couple programs.

Kathy :D

My recent 2.0 order wasn't delayed (well, except for the 6800 card, but that's a separate issue). However, it shipped well in advance of the Sept. 3rd date quoted after the 6800 fiasco. Most likely you'll see IBM shipping out more 2.0s simply because, as they attempt to make 2.5s, some of them may not clock that high, but will clock above 2.0 and therefore can be sold as 2.0 chips.

Well, we all know IBM is the main chain in this fiasco that's broken or needs to get fixed. However, these problems do NOT prevent Apple from communicating correctly towards online customers (all stores), Apple stores, resellers, independent dealers, etc. I simply cannot understand that for example you call Apple for an explanation, you can get two different ones from different persons!? That's ridiculous, their external communication needs to improve drastically, but their internal system as well. I for one, have no real trouble with the delays itself, but it's the way it is handled by Apple. Some of you guys got set back up to 4 times, sure you received compensation, but that shouldn't be necessary if they targeted your date in an appropriate timeframe, not 1 month delay or more. I ordered through a reseller, that means I have no ETA, cause the reseller knows nothing as well, and I simply cannot demand compensation of any kind.

That's one thing, the other thing is their 'random' shipping to customers. I'm fron the benelux (belgium) and I believe that falls under Apple Benelux, so I'd think the netherlands and belgium are treated the same. I know of a guy who ordered online at the apple store the 19th of august. Well, guess what, he received his machine the 30th of august. An 11 day waitnig period! Can you believe that? While people ordering from apple 2 MONTHS earlier still don't have theirs.

My nephew, who's no switcher YET, will be at school in 2 weeks, studiying audio and video. That school bought a bunch of g5's last year, and I was always making fun of the fact I would be fooling around with a g5 a lot earlier than he could.. Guess I'll be slapped in the face over this one :p

okay..thx for the vent guys, hope you don't mind, I didn't offend anyone here, just expressed my feelings at the moment.

I dont know much about the making of processors, but is that really the way they would do it? I would think if IBM has a chip designed for a 2.5 and it doesnt clock at 2.5 it probably isnt working at all. I would hope that the speed between chips isnt that variable. It also makes me think of a situation where someone ordering a dual 2.0 gets a dual 2.45 off 2.5 rejection chips

Actually, that is very much the way it DOES work. I'm sure you've heard of users (PC and Mac) overclocking their CPUs? Sometimes they get a 2.0GHz CPU to run at 2.4GHz? That sort of thing?

That's usually because they got a 2.5 "reject" (or something similar) that is actually able to run at 2.4GHz. The problem with overclocking is that the rest of a 2.0 GHz system (system bus, etc.) may *not* work at these higher speeds.

But CPU vendors have always sold chips that "fail" at a high speed but work perfectly at a lower speed *AS* that lower speed. Its been done this way for years.
