I also ordered without a 6800.

That was a seperate order, even made a week or 2 later.

I ordered a Stock item. (my distributer only sells stock models)

Without a modem, you don't have a real stock model.

I think as soon as something changes you no longer have a stock item. And someone here on this forum once mentioned that Apple is easier on non-stock items then stock-items because customised things are intented for customers right away, while stock-G5's may end up in warehouses just to fill stock. Wich would be a waste of unused G5's at a sparse moment like this. I don't really believe this, but the more things I hear here, the more I tend to believe it.

Reality check

Well, I know that Apple has a history in delays. But 5 MONTHS!! that's just redicules! Apple used to announce new powermac every 6 months. That would mean that if I'm lucky, I'll see a new machine announced, when I have mine a month. And if I'm not lucky, I'll see a speedbumped machine before I have mine!! Delay are common, but not that long. And again, they should keep us more informed. At this point, even my distributor, where I buy my Mac, stopped with predicting deliverydates! now the website "basically" says: "will be delivered sometime"
I'm anxious too, believe me. Since receiving the shipping notice Tuesday and not seeing any tracking data show up on the URL they conveniently provide is very nerve-wracking!

But let's stand back and look at this objectively: when we ordered, we knew the 2.5 would not be availble until 'late July', and anyone who ordered the 30" monitor (requiring the 6800) would not see that until sometime 'in August'. My original delivery date was 31 August. The original order date was 29 June. So there's two months I already knew I was going to be waiting.

My 2.5 will utlimately have been 'delayed' only 28 days (four weeks). My 30" and 6800 will be a different story. A sad, long story, but a different story nevertheless.

Congratulations Erwin!

You are indeed very lucky :) I ordered a stock G5 on the 14th of june, the same machine as Ge4-ce, also through an official apple center (ITPro gent).

I guess it's a bit hard for us, cause we have been waiting a lot longer (about 2 months) but I have no hard feelings towards you ;) You can't help it, it's Apple to blaim here.

Ge4-ce, hopefully we'll get a response on our letter to Apple Benelux.

Yet another gripe

How come in a country as large as the United States, they can get things shipped the next day -- whereas we here in Europe have to wait for up to 10 days before receiving it.

This needs to change. It is unacceptable. Not even an option for priority shipping.

Tsk tsk.

They received it today.

Ge4-ce, i'd call back the person you spoke with at apple benelux, cause she or he has been talking out of her **** , :D when she said there wouldn't be any shipments this or next week due to the end of the fiscal quarter

It Came

Cannot believe it, it came it came this afternoon Japan time. this thing is whisper quite, even compared to my PowerBook. Went the Shinsaibahi Apple store to get a 23 in display. All displays in the Apple store had a pink tint to them. I pointed it out to a rep, she said it's the first time she knew of the problem or anyone else for that matter. She agreed they are pinkish. I did not come home with one. Loving this thing.

I'll quote her on that one next week, when I phone her AGAIN.. or maybe she just read my letter, and was not willing to help anymore :D

Or she is sick from every bloke that calls here to ask where the bloody G5 is?

anyway.. now that Grebo has his one, I'm a bit more optimistic about shipping in benelux.. maybe I'll see it before X-mas afterall..

:) you mean Gerwin right? yes idd, but I can't seem to reach my dealer today, they don't pick up the phone and they should be open today. Strange

OH NO! THEY'RE ON TO YOU TOO!!

Quick! remove all wires, open up your shoes an remove the tracking device, and RUN, don't look back, blow up your house, and never ever return again. they blocked you email, your phone, now they will block your creditcard, and make sure you are signed by all policestations as a serialkiller with a G5 on order!

yes, I meant Gerwin :)

yes..

it's a conspiracy. I had the feeling some people of the government were folllowing me the other day. And today, when I was pickung up some books, I noticed 2 big black jeeps following me. Couldn't see who was in it, cause the windows were all tinted dark. I put my car in 6th and sped away.

What type of display are you using?

From other posts the Pink issue can be corrected by doing monitor calibrations. Check out the last post on the page.

Saturday shipping notice!!

OKAY!, got the shipping notice in my email today! It is Saturday so I'm afraid the machine won't actually get picked up by FedEx until Monday, but I'll have it by Tuesday at the latest. Can't wait, what'll I do til then?

As of now, I have both the old 20" and the new 23" side by side.
The 23" is much brighter than the 20". In my opinion, the 23" is worth every penny.

Out of the box, the new 23" did indeed have a slight magenta cast to it-this was quickly resolved by the Eyeone calibration hardware and software.
I know it may seem a bit of a stretch to have to use third party calibration tools to get porfessional results from a $2,000 monitor, but if you really want accurate color for graphics work-you really have to have these types of calibration tools. That applies to any monitor out on the market today.
My only gripe is that it does have a stuck pixel in the upper left area..I don't notice it, but I know it's there....

I'm also 100% satisfied with my 23" Apple display. I didn't had any pinkish tint in the first place, BUT I hooked it up to my Powerbook (because you know.. G5 isn't there yet)

The color was just fine, but nevertheless, I calibrated it with a lacie blue-eye hardware calibrater, and now, it's just perfect!

Greetz,

Ge4-ce

LOL :D I guess I have to wait even longer, Im in northern norway and shipping here takes ages, usually two weeks just from Oslo(southern norway)

Anybody who hasn´t split up their orders yet should definetly try to do so, who knows when the 6800 is going to ship.

I haven't heard of lacie blue eye hardware calibrater? I thought that it was built into the LCD or Mac program?

Nope, Check out section "Color" on Lacie.com, and there you'll find the calibrator. But it actually is only a real hardware calibrator on Lacie's CRT monitors. For LCD displays, it is a softwarecalibrator only. But it works very well.
