Glassbathroom? Mfx? Ganders? Any news?

Received the notification Tuesday, -- here it is six days later, and there's absolutely no tracking info -- what a sham!

Nope, nothing here yet. They have taken the money from my credit card. I will be very annoyed if we don't hear more today.

Nothing here either. It's now a week since it shipped and the tracking info still tells me nothing.Am climbing the walls waiting!

Well guys, the beginning of a new week. Another week of waiting, probably another week of dissapointment when it ends without a G5.

October it'll be, hell, at the rate it is going now, it could very well be november. I should have bought the dual 2.0 8 months ago when I was thinking about it, but that's my mistake.

As of today, I haven't received a reply concerning my complaint letter towards Apple Benelux. Did you hear anything Ge4-ce?

I called them this morning, but the product manager didn't answer his phone, i'll try again this afternoon. My dealer is closed today, so I can't phone them. I won't email them again, because they didn't answer my mail since wednesday. I'd like to know what my options are with cancelling. I'm a bit concerned that the display that has already been reserved for me, will cause problems if I try to cancel. The other problem is, that when I order online, I will need to use my visa, and apparently, I can't have a temporarily limit of over 6000€. How do you guys pay when you buy a computer online? The other option is paying through money transfer. But then my money is gone before I even see my computer. And it could very well be a couple of weeks.

So many questions :).

...one of the thoughts that kept me going over the weekend was 'by this time next week, I'll be working at my new computer... ' :D

We'll see...

Too late for a documentary?

Was thinking it would have made for an interesting documentary -- everybody's experiences here.

A bittersweet experience for all. Question is: would Apple showcase it as an example of what you can do with Final Cut Pro? :D

Nope, nothing.. Zip, nada, rien.. A good way of handeling customers. Just don't answer. Anything you do is good, as long as you don't answer the question. That seems the strategy they choose to follow.

As long as they don't ship at least 100 units a week to resellers, I won't see it until november, maybe december! at this rate! I question myself, can they actually DO this? Without giving something..

my estimates are that there are between 500 and 1000 backorders in Belgium for the dual 2.5 Techdata owns 60 of them. I don't know in what order they ship them. I don't know my backordernumber with Techdata. My estimates are something between nr 20 and nr 40..

Play time!!

Congrats Peer! Since you ordered 2 standard configs on the same day as mine, and also with a reseller, my level of anticipation has risen again.

Looks like your reseller was right when he quoted end of september...

G5 Arrived....but DOA :(

Hello all!!!

I have been following this thread from the beginning and I ordered my dual 2.5 in mid July and just received it Friday. I was unable to play with it this weekend due to the fact that I was out of toown :(. I was so excited of course when I arrived home and pulled it out of the box. I set it up and got ready to pop in the hardware test cd when come to find out my superdrive does not work at all. It won't open or anything. I checked the cables and they all look fine and everything "should" be working. Nevertheless I have to send it back to apple. The wait isn't over yet. So I'm hanging in there with you all. :) I am sure we will all be blazing with our computers in the near future. Best Wishes!!!

I called Apple Benelux again, she transfered me to the technical department, but they couldn't help me, so they transfered me to the apple store, who in their turn, couldn't help me either. She was very friendly but could only answer questions regarding online orders.

She did agree on the fact that standard shippings are not facing a large waiting period if you order online, only when you want the 6800 in your mac. 2 weeks seems to be a reasonable assumption.

I'll have to call my dealer tomorrow, see if he answers or keeps ignoring me like the past week

Having missed FedEx on Friday (early closings can be a mixed blessing...), I await the arrival of the beast today.

I'm having a hard time sitting still...

I have a feeling that I'll be staying in my office for a few extra hours tonight. :)

My 2.5 broke .... doesn't want to turn on

Well, I've had my dual 2.5 G5 for a little under a month. When I got home on Saturday, I tried to turn on the machine but nothing .... it wouldn't turn on. I checked all connections, powerstrip, tried a different wall outlet .... nothing. I called Apple Support, they had me open the unit and try to reset the PMU unit on the logic board ... still nothing.

They are now asking me to take it to the Apple Store in my area, and as the support agent stated, "they are one of the stores that are tracking power unit problems"

Has anyone heard of this on the G5's???

I'm so upset as this is my first Mac ever and it's been a horrible experience thus far.

Do you know where your unit was manufactured?

I'd be interested to see if any of the problems mentioned in this thread can be traced to specific plants.

Don't know where

No, I don't know. Is there a way to tell? I can check when I get home if there is a way.

Latest on UK shipments...

Well, having got my shipping notice on 20/9 and still no tracking info,
I gave into my frustration and phoned Apple, knowing full well that I'd get the same old useless blurb, but I couldn't help it!

Anyway,as expected I got the usual 5-7 days delivery time excuse,
to which my comments of "it's been 5 working days already" '"not what I'd call 'fast ship' ",and "hardly express shipping is it?" did,to the sales ladys credit, elicit no response, but then they must be used to grumpy customers by now. :)

She did however tell me that the 2.5DP G5s were coming from Asia (presumably China) to Holland, not from Cork which is what I'd been told previously.

This may have been an excuse to justify long delivery times, but either way the wait goes on... :(

G5 factory location

After reading that story at MacInTouch today (8/17) where they mention being wary of machines built in late July: http://www.macintouch.com/#notesandtips has anyone tried to determine what week their 2.5 machine has been built with this serial number decoder?

I think this site will tell you where your machine was manufactured. It has successfully identified the factory for my PowerBook; I'll try it on my G5 when it arrives today.

Well, on the waiting period, I agree. At is terrible.. A lot of us are still waiting. The good side of a Mac is: It either works, or it does not. That's my experience in the past. If they fix your problem, it will work. It's not an indication that you will have more troubles in the future. Pc's I know of, always tend to work for 80% or they do work BUT... Or they work for now, BUT... So, just to cheer you up,.. Apple does make good stuff. Their only mistake I know of right now is their delivery.. That SUCKS bigtime..

Is anyone else tempted as I am to switch your order to a dual 2 GHz? According to apples site they ship the same business day. I bet that means two years though.

Sorry for being so silent ...
I'm disappointed (a lot !)

No news at all, same as you.
But more, I can't succeed in getting an order confirmation with a right price. My first order, on 06/19 and with a 9800 XT, 2 DVD boxes, an iSight and an Applecare, was correctly confirmed (about 3700 euros). Early july, I swap for a 6800. I got a confirmation saying about '3000 euros'. When they update the order with a 9600 and the 6800 later, I got a confirmation with about '4000 euros' ... Strange. I called several times, and got a phone price of '3600 euros', seeming OK. But the mail confirmation I received some days later is '4570 euros'
I phoned several times, asking for a TRUE confirmation, with a TRUE price, but in vain ...
And on my CB, I noticed two prices for Apple : one is for iSight, 2 DVD boxes and Applecare, the second is about 415 euros ... corresponding to the 6800 card. But nothing for the G5 itself.

And TNT doesn't know yet the delivery.
And Applestore can't give me any piece of information :(

So, I'm a bit disappointed ...

just a little longer....

my machine came into central purchasing 8:59 am friday. They told me it will be here this afternoon or tomorrow.... if it's not here this afternoon i won't be able to sleep tonight :p

Ordered 6/17, shipped 9/17... received 9/24... almost there... almost there...

I can't wait to fold on this beast. Have anyone lurking here folded with this thing yet?

How come in a country as large as the United States, they can get things shipped the next day -- whereas we here in Europe have to wait for up to 10 days before receiving it.

This needs to change. It is unacceptable. Not even an option for priority shipping.

Tsk tsk.

Part of the problem is it has to go from the plant in ireland to a center in holland, where it sits around for a few days, and then out to the customer. In the US, it goes from the plant in california, to the customer.

Yes the same thing happened to me.
Waited three months for my G5
After 5 days it failed
Sent it back and got a refund.
I now have second thoughts about the reliability of the new 2.5 G5 and its fancy technology. I don’t believe it should have been released as buggy as its been.
