Thanks. O.K. so I immediatly cleaned up my desk to set my new 2.5. Next morning my 19yr old nephew saw it. I demonstrated it a bit, and left him alone on the 2.5 (and garage band). An hour later he came out of the room smiling and amazed... About 15 mins. later I saw him reading a Macworld magazine I had on my coffe table. Switched!! Now he wants a Mac.
 
Hey guys...I just figured it was time for me to complain, since pretty much everyone else has so far. I ordered my 2.5 on July 1, and still no computer has been shipped. My date has been changed from mid-august, to Sept. 15, to Sept. 20, to Oct. 3, and I have not heard anything since then. I would love to know why people who have ordered in the last month or so are already receiving their computers. What is up with that? Anyway...just needed too vent. Hope everyone else gets theirs soon.

Well TNT are picking up my dead G5 tomorrow - couldn't be more helpful and accomodating, so that will be out of my sight anyway.

Just waiting on the word from Apple now about the replacement. I have to say my confidence has been dented badly. I don't want to stump up £199 for the APP, but I'm beginning to wonder....

Hi,

I ordered mine with APP (cost me £99, I ordered on the phone from Apple and they discounted it for me). The PM shipped direct to the UK from Ireland, with the everything else, inc APP, coming direct from Holland. I'm sorry to hear about your problems and I hope your replacement is a good one!!!!

Yes, it is insane -- but with these this unproven technology of liquid 'cooling' -- I wouldn't have it any other way. Sad thing about your situation is you have to be without a machine for a while -- at least I was able to get them to ship the replacement while I keep the faulty one here (it has already shut down on me while checking this thread and typing this reply!)

The thing that's tricky about the APP is they'll cover the monitor on the same coverage only if they were bought on the same invoice -- and with my split shipment they could argue that they're on separate invoices -- but I've already spoken to someone in Apple Care about it and they assured me that they could look past these extrenuating circumstances - especially as it was not OUR fault the delays were mounting...
 
My 6800 also shipped today (I was one of the "take a 9800 now, we'll give you a 6800 later people"). My most recent ship by date was 10/15.

For those of you with thermal runaways or fan noise problems, be sure to read this Apple Support article on removing the plastic strips from the G5 door. I've heard that some cases of overheating were because these plastic strips were not removed as they should be.

Also, in case anyone is interested, I recently wrote a response to a Kevin Maney article on Windows viruses/trojans/malware (I'm a Windows developer, but I have switched ALL personal computing to Macintosh within the last year or so). He actually quoted me in a follow-up USA Today online article (hint: my real name is Daryl Forrest)!

Wow. I wasn't expecting that, but its kind of cool.

OK... It was JUST AFTER I OPENED THE PACKAGE... The plastic is not there anymore... :p

Anyways, This screen + 6800 rock BIG TIME!... I bought a round of beer to all my friends (All PC users) and they were all drooling...

I haven't noticed any bizarre noise coming from the Fans so far... The only problem I have had was the connection of the Airpor Xtreme station and getting connected to the internet... Took me almost 40 minutes to figure out all the parameters and find the right setup with my ISP.

For those who are considering buying the 30": GO AHEAD!!!!

... my g5 with 6800 was dilivered yesterday ... problem is , i wasn't at home , tough at my office ... and tnt express just didn't got it to deliver to my office place ... hope they understand it for todays delivery ...

I got my new G5 today!

Hi guys,

I'm happy to report that I'm sending this message from my brand new 2.5 Ghz G5 I recieved today. Just finished copying all my files from my previous workstation (G4 MMD 867) and things are running smooth.

I got this machine out of stock from a local reseller. My boss called them last week, and they had 30 units coming in that weren't sold yet. So he ordered one directly with a new 23 inch cinema display they also had in stock. So I'm really lucky to have only waited one week for this machine.

I'm glad to see that most of you are receiving your G5's now as well. :)
 
Finally...

Finally my order with Apple is complete. My shiny new several pounds heavy 6800ultra just arrived at my door. Currently downloading UT2004demo to see how it does. :) Anyways want to buy my old 9600XT that came with the machine? Send me a message...
