First post from powermac dual 2,5 and 23" screen!
Well guys, this is it 😀
My first post on a mac, i'm now officially a switcher, took me a while and a lot of patience, but this thing is daaaaamn fast. And sooo quiet, my xp laptop (3,06 p4) is so much louder.
Sure, it revs now and then, and then goes down again, but it's certainly not annoying, I don't have the fan revving issue when scrolling, no rippling effect.
Passed Hardware Test with great honors
My 23" is daaamn fine as well, no pink issues as far as I can tell, no yellow band as well, maybe one stuck green pixel, but I've noticed it one time so far, when a black background was shown in dvdplayer, but the pixel is sooo small, and I can live with it perfectly, nothing that worries me 🙂
I'll post a website soon with some setup pics, but it'll be this saturday, tomorrow and friday are still very busy for me, so not much time to enjoy my new purchase!
And to all of those who are still waiting, hold on, it sure is worth it. 😱 😀

You never worked on a Mac before??? Damn, I now really admire your patience.. To be honest.. Apple doesn't deserve your patience.. But hell, they make good stuff, and that's worth the wait.. Only 4 months.. makes you wonders sometimes..
You will forget your wait in a day or 2...

But that one didn't last long, cause I went to a architecture school and had to work on autocad. That was it for my mac experience.
But now i'm back, bigger and better, and here to stay 🙂

Hear hear! Glad you are happy with your new machine Klaus. Congrats on the 'conversion' ('we accept you - one of us!') Now get to the back of the queue for your implant (just kidding).
As for your question, MacNabbit, it all depends on how you define 'original first week' -- as I held my order until the monitors were announced, as I knew they were imminent.
I am still waiting for that -- and have been informed today that I have to wait until 'the END of October' before I see my 6800 video card and 30" monitor. That seems like a pretty raw deal. Those of us who were patting ourselves on the back for getting the machine that much sooner seem to be at the back of the fulfillment queue now. 🙁
P.S. My replacement machine is in Northhampton at the moment (having travelled from Cork) but is on its way to Holland (on a slow boat) before it is shipped back to the UK. Unbelievable...

The wait is over (well almost)
Ordered 29th June - arriving 14th October, have extra 3gb of Ram waiting to add to the 1 gb installed. Also two 10000 rpm maxtor drives.
Not sure I'll sleep tonight - any suggestions on the best way to set up the drives (mirrored or striped) appreciated.
This machine is going to fly!

After receiving my G5 with 6800 yesterday, my display came today. Wow, quite a change from my 15" PB. I've been installing apps so really haven't had much of a chance to take it through the paces yets. Apps load much quicker. It looks like several others have just received theirs as well. Looks like a good week for many on this thread.

Ordered Dual 2.5 with a 9800XT on 6/21.
Upgraded to 6800 Ultra on 6/28.
Got my G5 with a 9600XT on 9/14.
My card will apparently ship out before the 16th.
I am going to go crazy if they delay this thing again.

Up And Running!!
It does blow out some heat and I'm sure my electric bill will suffer. Fan rev is a non-issue ( my Powerbook was louder ). No rippling, banding or even missing pixels so far. Got the 6800 card but haven't put that to the test.
Waited for 76 days for it, spent $ 7000 on it and give it one thumbs up!
Had to pick it up from Fed-Ex myself after missing their delivery try and am just copying over my files from my shoot this afternoon. I'll get to test Photo Mechanic which I use to edit images. I 've already done a quick test of Photoshop rotate and it flies. I've always said that I need acomputer that waits for me not vise versa. I think this is the machine! Apps open instantly. Heat? Hot!!
It does blow out a lot of heat - it'll be great this winter! I've got it sitting under my desk and don't really hear the fans unless I'm doing something processor intensive. But it's not really bothering me. So far this machine is smooth. I've been working on a G4 667 SINGLE processor Powerbook for waaaaay too long ( ever since Dual 3.0's were promised at MacWorld SF 2003 )
Hey Ge4-Ace, I'm not sure why you can't cancel and re-order directly from Apple but I feel your pain. We're all rooting for you! 😱 😡
PS: the new set-up assistant is great. I did the copy over and the dualie looks like a mirror image of my old PB - painless set-up. ( Although the system froze after it tried to register the computer with Apple BEFORE I had copied my settings ( including internet config).

Nvidia 6800 shipped!
Just received my shipping notice for my 6800 card... it was split out back in September from my PM 2.5 (which I got on the 28th of September). Have priority overnight shipping...it will be here tomorrow! Is this the first instance of a stand-alone 6800 shipping? I can't wait!

Edit - HAH! Wouldn't you know it.. I can't even check to see if it's shipped or not since Order Status only displays the last 90 days.. geez. Anyone know of a way to check status for over 90 days??

hey klaus, glad to see you got your computer, my new imac g5 20" came yesterday, and tonight when i got home from work i saw the apple email telling me my long awaited PM G5 was shipped. Apple upgraded me to a 2 day ship from standard, so I hope to see it this Friday morning. After seeing how large and nice the 20" screen is compared to the 15" screen on my imac g4, I cant wait to see the new 30". So far I am highly impressed with the performance of my new imac g5. Its fast and quiet, although I really wish apple had included an option for a 128mb video card. The 6800 card should more than meet my humble, gaming need for speed. 😀 Well good luck to the rest of you long term waiters, it seems the dam finally broke on the delayed items, and we should all have them sooner than many of us might have feared. 🙂

6800 trouble
well, now I am reporting problems...I have started to have hangs with the 2.5 and the 6800....and a high temp on cpu a of 185f...this is way too high and the hangs are unacceptable...so I have to call apple tomorrow and see what the deal is.......I am counting to 10 as I type this....
