one of the most incredible features is right when you install it :
it asks you if you've got a older mac and if yes , it transfers all your data from the old one to the new via firewire - even all the programs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it has never been easier to set up an computer : it arrived about 11:45 , it treansfered my data from 12h to 13h (when i had lunch) and it was ready to work with at 13h !!

i'll wait to upgrade my 9600xt until the ati x800 is shipping (no more extreme pre-ordering for me), or i'll opt for the nvidia if it drops in price a little, and is faster than the ati. we'll see

G5 Shipping from asia.
I just talked to tekserve, they said the G5 2.5 i ordered on aug. 28 is shipping from Asia on or before October 20th. The big question now is.... How long does it take to ship? Is is coming in by airplane? or by boat? I'm in New York City? Anyone have any ideas?

dualie with 6800 WORKING!!!
This thing is a beast! It is sooo fast. I'm halfway thru a job that would take 2 days on my PBG4 667 - and it's only been two hours! Awesome!! FAST FAST FAST.
I did wake up last night and the fans were blowing. I could hear it from the next room. I checked my Activity Monitor and it had system and user taking up 60% of the processor power - and it was supposed to be asleep!! Anybody have any ideas? The activity monitor won't show me what tasks the computer is working on. Do I need to reinstall it? It's from my powerbook ( when I copied files over ) and maybe isn't set up for a dualie G5?

ATI x800
saw the maccentral post regarding the ATI x800... they noted an ADC connection to be available...
any one know if this is a built in port to the card???
i have one of the clear plastic 20" cinema displays that has an ADC connector... i'd hate to have to buy another adapter for it to work.. besides ADC eliminated all the clutter of additional power cable for the monitor while still providing usb hub and ability to turn on the computer from the monitor button.

"Next Day AM" is the service Apple used to ship the card. Its coming from California!
FedEx (who has been delivering all my products from Apple) has always been on time. Plus, their website is constantly updated.
However, Apple chose to deliver the video card through Airborne/DHL. The only update to the website, as far as tracking goes, is "Picked up by DHL."
No explanation why the card was never delivered today.
No information where the card may be.
Just.. "Picked up."
I HATE YOU DHL! DELIVER MY CARD!! ARGGHHH!

Same thing happened to my friend, he lives 20 minutes north of me so i don't really see why they shipped his DHL and mine FedEx... either way, his was delayed in transit.
Hardware TEST
There should be a cd witht the hardware test included with the G5.
When you run it there is a quick and an extended test.
They both take awhile. The fans will spool up to top speed during the test.

FedEx not so great
my g5 and 30" screen were to be shipped by 4:30 pm friday, but fedex forgot to put the screen on the plane, so now i have to wait til monday for them to be delivered

I hope that you have plenty of plans this weekend. If so that will help to pass the time. The wait will all be forgotten when you G5 actually arrives.
2.5 and 6800 thoughts...
ok, so now I have had this bastard for one week and have been using it for work projects...and at first I was bummed by the noise of the 6800 fan ..but now I am in tune with it...and my thoughts regarding these two products are that this is the finest computer I have ever had...just looking at the way it is put together and the raw power of it..makes me weep...this is a great machine and I giggle of thoughts of installing Tiger and discovering the 64 bit beast which lays below.....nice job Apple...Steve Jobs.....wow...

i read , that you're a switcher . what kind of pc did you own before , do you use your computer for business work , and if yes what kind of business , what made you want to switch ?

Well, I owned a athlon xp +1900, nothing much. I don't use my mac for my work, I got a p4 3,06 acer laptop from work. I work at an internet service company, we do all sorts of things, building websites, database-driven sites, print, cdrom design, sms en location based services. But sadly, all on windows. We have an iMac though, an orange one, to test our sites in safari and mozilla on mac. My collegues dig macs too, but haven't considered buying one for home, maybe one, but we'll see.
good luck trying to convince him into mac!
