Forgot to add an additional 26 cancelled their orders and purchased theirs in a store. That makes it 206 units recorded in this spreadsheet as received.

180 G5 orders have been confirmed as received.

41 unconfirmed deliveries from users who have not posted a update as far back as August.

60 units are without a shipping date. Again most of them are from users who last posted a message as far back as July.

Strange...

I received my dualie 2.5 + 6800 + 30" about a week ago

And yesterday I had one of the strangest experience... Little green pixels disseminated on the screen.. Plenty of them... Some were blinking and some where not... From the many posts I have read in this forum... Seems like I have some "Dead pixels"...

Can anyone share experience... In the meantime I call Apple Care support...

Thanks for sharing

Michel

Yes, that is strange. Sounds like you might have a case for a new display. Will be anxious to hear what Apple has to say about your problem.

Hi, not sure if it's worth mentioning, but my first replacement G5 arrived on the 20th of October and now we're waiting on my SECOND replacement for the first replacement :(

TNT came to collect the first one today. I posted the serial number of it in an earlier post -- might be worth keeping track of to see if it resurfaces in the refurbished pool...

Hopefully, if things go well

That's a shame for Apple, quality drops significant!!!

I owned two PowerBooks in the last 4 years, and both needed to be repaired two times, longest wait was NEARLY A MONTH ... I'm just waiting for my new Desktop before I return my actual PB to Apple, now the CD is out of order. The fith problem on two computers in 4 years

Not to mention my 1st gen. IPods sudden death about a year ago

My other macs (I'm using macs since the PowerBook Duo 1994 I think) never made any trouble ...

If my new desktop is DOA, I'll sure enter Hulk mode, but I still hope for the best.

Damn, if those Mac weren't so sexy when working properly, I would have switched a year ago

Wow man... that sux! I have bought 7 portables from apple in the last 3 years and none of them have had a problem at all... Are you just a perfectionist that wants everything quiet? or beutiful? if so, I reccomend getting a therapist about this... I don't think that it is healthy to obsess about some stupid noise that the cd drive makes...

Apple Australia - Rotten to the Core

Well I have been waiting since 20/7/04 for my 2.5 with 6800. I ordered through an Apple Australia reseller too and Apple won't even say when it is coming. They confirmed it had shipped two weeks ago, but now they cannot even confirm where it is or if it truly did ship.

This is a nightmare! Where is my 2.5!!! I hate apple australia, why are they so secretive with their info? I thought they would care enough about a $9500+ setup enough to at least tell me if it truly has shipped.

I wouldn't mind waiting a few more weeks if only I knew for certain what day it would be here. (What's a few more weeks when I have waited this long?)

I feel sorry for my poor reseller, the best they can say is "just one more week"...... I've been told that since September.

Anyway; I plan to raid the Apple australia offices and demmand my G5!! Who's with ME!!!?!?!?

Well I don't know about raiding Apples Offices but I am writing to my States Dept of Fair Trading because as far as I am concern their conduct has been deceptive and misleading. Their web site stated three to five weeks delivery time when I ordered, they have $10,000 of my money and 12 weeks later I still have no idea when I might actually recieve the goods I have paid for. My arguement is not with my reseller, I have tried talking to Apple directly and they tell me the same non-information they have been telling my reseller.

At the moment Apple Australia seem only to interested in shipping iPods, Mac users are now a very poor second cousin. Hell I have ordered two in the last two months plus various accessories and they all arrive in days.

I know IBM has had issues with the 2.5s but Apple has know that for months but they persist with 3-5 weeks as the advised delivery time when they know it to be false. Why, because they no one would buy one if they were told that it would be delivered in 4 months !!!

Quite frankly Apple should change its name from Apple Computer Inc to Apple Multi-Media Inc.. cause delivering computer systems when promised is something they no longer seem to care about.

I really need a therapist

Hmmmm, well, nope!

PB G3 (Lombard!?!?):
+ CD-drive died, didn't work at all, replacement
+ PB crashed while booting the MacOS X install disk, motherboard replacement, waited about a month, it got lost at Apple

PB G4 (800MHz, titanium):
+ HD-Crash while doing my daily Backup, also killed (logically) my backup drive, replacement, AND a few days of hard work rescuing the lost data
+ PB died, no startup, motherboard replacement
+ and for about half a year, my CD-drive hardly reconizes any CD, burning is absolutely impossible

I'm just afraid it'll be at Apple for about a month again

I need it for my job but don't want to and can't afford to buy another PB just as a replacement for service time ... Not to mention that Apple really(!!!!) told me that would be a good idea

Never buy a Mac without Apple care!!!!

But, anyway, I always love(d) my Macs ;)

Apple Australia : Cruddiest of the crud.

I am just curious to know if anybody in Australia actually has a BTO 2.5 w/6800? And if so, when was it ordered.

My reseller told me there are 600+ BTO's with 6800 on backorder in Australia. I have no idea whether this is true or not. Apparently I am order #200 or so out of this 600 backlog.

This sounds like a pile b.s. but I was also wondering if anybody else has been fed this sort of info?

G5 DP2.5 Arrived

Well, I finally got my G5. (ordered June 16th)

extensive Hardware test took 31 minutes with 1GB RAB, 9600

it came with Panther 10.3.5 installation DVDs (two)
(new setup includes software bundle - Garageband, iDVD ...)

setup and installation was a breeze. (this thing is screeming fast)

The DP2.5 is not as quiet as the DP2.0, but still, I need the CPU power.
(it is still much much quieter than a PC)

Q: does anyone know where I can read the CPU temperature?

Hope you all get your G5s soon. (it really is worth the wait)

good luck.

Dual 2.5Ghz w/ Radeon 9800XT
2GB RAM
160GB SATA HDD (was going to go for the 2x250, but I already have a bunch of external > 120GB HDD's)

23" Aluminum Cinema Display (which arrives today...)

Fortunately, I already have a dual 1Ghz G4 MDD Windtunnel, which I can use with the display until the G5 gets here.

... estimated ship date ... on or before 11/24/2004. I am not holding my breath.

Steve can you post back when you receive your new G5, I am in the same boat as you with a Dual 1GHz G4 Windtunnel. I have not ordered the G5 yet, but I have the 23" Al Display on order. I would be very interested to hear about

1. How speed compares with the MDD, both actual and feel.

2. How much quieter the 2.5 G5 is compared with the Windtunnel. BTW did you receive and fit the fan / power supply mod from Apple ?

Thanks

Dual 2.5 system is complete!

So, the 6800 finally arrived yesterday. I couldn't help but quit out of everything, shut down, and install this beast. I knew that the card was big, but seeing it sitting next to the 9600 that Apple had substituted really drove the point home.

Installation was fine. I didn't really have time to run any legit tests before I had to get back to work. I may have to head into my office today to run some very un-work-related tests...

The best part of all this is that the dream machine I ordered on July 21 is finally complete!

Since you're like me and your BTO 6800 card came later than your computer (I ordered in late June), you should REALLY check and make sure your Apple provided CD's that came with your PM are version 1.3 and OS X.3.5 and no .3.4... otherwise Kernel Panic city when you use them. I called Apple and am expecting a reply soon as to them sending new ones, since I ordered my Mac with it (6800) in the first place.

But yes.. it's beast... in more ways than one.

I GOT IT! Got a phone call from Comp Usa while at work yesterday and I left work early to pick it up. Installed Raptor drive and 4GB of ram. Did the hardware test and everything passed. I do have the "ripple" effect when scrolling through windows, so I'm not sure what to do about that yet. I did some tests comparing my old G4 Quicksilver dual 1 GHz and the new G5 dual 2.5 GHz.
The G4 had 3-73GB internal SCSI drives and 1.5GB of ram, and the nVIDIA GeForce4 Ti graphics card. The G5 had Raptor drive as startup, stock 250GB as 2nd drive, 4.5GB ram, and Radeon 9800XT graphics card.

OPENING APPLICATIONS: (time in seconds)

FCPHD:________ G4 - 7.5 G5 - 3.5
PSCS:_________ G4 - 13.0 G5 - 3.5
DVDSP:_______ G4 - 10.5 G5 - 4.5
iTUNES:_______ G4 - 3.0 G5 - 1.0

FCPHD RENDER TEST: (time in minutes)

File was 603MB (2:47 long)_____ G4 - 9:25 G5 - 3:05
Filters: Color corrector
Gaussian blur
Widescreen
De-interlace

PHOTOSHOP TEST: (time in minutes)

Open file- 425MB_____ G4 - 1:04 G5 - 0:07

Render Colored pencil filter_____ G4 -2:41 G5 - 1:05

You can see that the G5 is significantly faster, especially at rendering. I am not as thrilled as I thought I would be though...after almost 4 months of waiting I might add. Don't get me wrong...I still think its really fast, and it's mostly very quiet too...much quieter than the G4. Maybe after Tiger things will improve...Photoshop only recognizes 1.7GB of the ram, and Final cut pro only recognizes 2.5GB. That is something that really needs to be addressed, especially Photoshop.
Also, I ordered this thing with airport and bluetooth...and it only came with airport card installed...no bluetooth, so I guess I'm gonna have to call them and have it taken off my card. Oh, and I couldn't register with Applecare either...didn't recognize the serial number. I thought they had gotten that taken care of by now.
Well, hope the rest of you that are still waiting get yours soon. It's a very cool machine and as soon as all of the problems get fixed, it will have been worth the wait.

With the kind of money that King Crimson is spending, the G5 should be in good working order. My wife has had to have her one year old 15" Power Book twice. The first was a mother board and screen due to a faulty antenna. The second was the SuperDrive. So they were not minor. Most of the problems that I have heard of with others are not a sign of a perfectionist. :D

Hi UnixMac:

I also had the BTO 6800 broken out and shipped after my dual 2.5 PM. The CD's that came with my PM are v1.2. The 6800 arrived several weeks later with it's own install disk. Did Apple tell you they are sending the v1.3 CD's to you? If so, how did you get them to send them?

Thanks for your help.

One word of caution

Stay away from the apple wireless keyboard. This thing is the biggest piece of junk I have ever used. It works great when it is working problem is if I put the computer to sleep it stops working and I have to restart the macine. I have done all the latest updates and they helped a little but overall I am very dissatisfied with this product. This is by far the worst piece of equipment I have ever bought that had a apple logo on it.

If anyone else is having good luck with this I would like to know what you are doing different.

As it stands I am going to try to return it and exchange it for a regular wired keyboard.

I am having absolutely no problems... have you asked apple to check your bluetooth hardware? Is your antenna mounted? I've never hear of any problems with it... works fine on my mom's G5 iMac too.

I am waiting to talk with them still, I was told to wait "5 working days" for an answer... which is tomorrow. I expect that they will give me the new disks. But who knows?

6800 Issue-free

The CD that came with my standalone 6800 had v.1.2 on it, no issues here.

I'm running 10.3.5, it was installed before i installed the drivers.

Have you actually tried to boot you computer into that CD directly? (hold down C on the keyboard with a restart and the CD in the drive).

If so, you'll be the first guy to succeed in dozens I've spoken to. Does your 1.2 version say 10.3.5? or 10.3.4?

Thanks

No wireless keyboard problems here.

Ditto Unixmac. I love the wireless keyboard and haven't had any issues since setting it up in early September.

I'm very sorry to hear about your problem with the wireless keyboard. Didn't you receive a regular keyboard along with your purchase of the G5? Have to called Apple to see if they have a fix for this problem? I hope that this is an isolated case.

Checking up

Hi guys, just checking up on the thread, the activity has certainly dropped, which is a good thing I guess, since this thread was mainly about people helping each other to survive the wait for their machine.

My machine is running excellent, have been very busy designing a site on it, so it gives me opportunity to get to know the os and the computer itself.

I sincerely hope Ge4-ce gets his machine quick, so he can finish his school projects with a ******** of power on his desk. Keep it up if it hasn't arrived yet..how hard it may be.

C u guys!

Hi.. I have a similar problem with my apple bluetooth mouse but my keyboard works fine. I found a way to get around rebooting your computer. If your mouse is still working, try opening the Browse Device window (part of the Bluetooth File Exchange program that comes with your computer) and and it asks you to select your device, select your bluetooth keyboard and click browse. Obviously, you cannot browse the your bluetooth keyboard but it helps your computer connect to your bluetooth keyboard after waking up from sleep. I hope this will help for you as it helps for my bluetooth mouse.
