I'm right there with ya man... but on 2 systems. a DP 2.5 and a Dell (need something for the wife...lol)

So who is getting the Dell? Doesn't your wife also deserve the very best?

My Estimated Shipping Date

Ordered a dual 2.5 , 2GB RAM, Radeon 9800XT, 160GB HDD on 10/19

Estimated Shipping Date : On or before 11/26/2004

According to the apple sales rep who issued my order, the lead time is down to about 12 business days when ordering over the phone. Supposedly, while there is still a lead time on the 2.5's, it isn't as bad as before, and things are moving smoother. Web store orders are slightly longer for some reason.

I have no idea if the guy was yanking my chain to just get an order, but that is what he told me.

It's shipped

Hi there,

update: my G5, 2*2,5, 250GB HD, 2,5GB RAM, Nvidia 6800, 23" Display has been shipped yesterday. I ordered it at a local store in Germany.

In numbers:
ordered: 08.10.2004
estimated shipping date at time of order: 22.10.2004
shipped: 26.10.2004
delivered: hopefully soon :D

Cheers,

Andreas

She does INDEED deserve the best... but for what she does... $500 is all we need to spend...

and that included a free 17" LCD... cant beat that!!! :D

For similar reasons, I bought the kids a Dell 4600 a year ago. And learned that even with Service Pack 2, OS X is still better than XP Home. And yes, the kids complain from time to time when it comes to loading new games; the root file structure of this machine is a complete mess...

Back on topic, sort of: Just ordered a brand-spankin' new Dual 2.0 (Rev B all the way, baby!) with BTO built-in BlueTooth! Buyer's remorse still appears to be in check...

Here's all the best to post number 6000! Hats off to ya!

I am waiting to talk with them still, I was told to wait "5 working days" for an answer... which is tomorrow. I expect that they will give me the new disks. But who knows?

Any word on the new discs? We just received another new 2.5 GHz machine in our office and it also has the v1.2 discs.

Nuts.

Hi, my second G5 2.5 DP had a Hitachi drive in it whereas the first one it replaced had a Maxtor. Still, I got permission from Apple Support to swap the drives from one to the other so I didn't have to bother setting everything up again (couldn't use the FireWire transfer utility, because the first one kept suffering thermal failures).

WOW! it's shipped

Ok.. just recieved notification,

ordered 13th of november, notification that's it's shipped today.. It's coming from ireland, Shipping time is estimated to be 2-3 days! woohoo! :D

It's being shipped by TNT maybe i got lucky??

160GB Serial ATA-7200rpm
8x Super Drive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL
56k V.92 Modem
BlueTooth Module-Z
Airport Extreme Card-EURO
Apple Keyboard & Mouse-B
Mac OS X(EUROPE)-Z
1Country Kit-B

I GOT IT! (Miracles will never cease!)

Finally my G5 2.5 came - yesterday - and its mad cool - now for a couple questions for the experts out there...

Does ayone know of a software piece that will test the throughput of my hard drives. I bought a Hitachi Deskstar (250) to be a record drive in a pro audio system... now I'm thinkinig of swaping it out and using it as the start up drive instead of the MAxtor 160 that came with my G5. Apple tech support thought that was a pretty good idea - any other thoughts? PLease email me at one@grooveshaman.com. Thanks all - gs

Apple 23" Aluminum Display Reports

Anyone care to give a review of their new 23" aluminum displays? I'm still waiting on mine but have read a few mixed reviews including uneven backlighting and pink tint.

bit

On Order:
2.5 G5, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA 6800 DDL and 23" ACD

23 inch is perfect

Mine had been perfect on a PC with a 9600XT

G5 2.5dp with a 9600XT and a 6800 card - I've not seen one abd pixil or flicker or any sign of pink.

Just my 2 cents! (or $1799) worth of opinion.

For your sake, I hope that he was being honest. They don't get a commission, so that wouldn't be the reason.

Mine is super!

I was as worried as you are now, these forums don't help for those matters :)

Mine is peeerrfect, 1 stuck pixel (green) somewhere in my screen, but I only notice it when running pixelcheck, I don't notice it on other occasions.

I calibrated my monitor (everybody should do that), no pink at all.

It's great! See pics at http://mac.goaly.net

It has arrived

As they say, better late than never. Last week they could not tell me when it would be arriving, and now it is here. Yep my new 2.5 with 6800 Ultra has arrived... well it is at my reseller waiting for me to pick it up !!!

Will have to wait till tomorrow to set it up and play....is going to be a long night waiting :)

No pink tint. No stuck pixels. No uneven backlighting.

Can't really say enough good things about it.

A 150 page thread doesn't seem like it would be very useful to anyone.
I think it's become less of a thread and more of a community. I miss my shipping partners (Mfx, Glassbathroom, Ganders) who are off enjoying their new G5s while I'm still waiting for delivery of an acceptable one.

For the record: I ordered at the end of JUNE and I'm still waiting for my 30" screen / 6800 card.

Hi, Grebo

Still coming now and then to see your situation ...
G5 and 6800 are running. World of Warcraft beta is taking me a lot of time ;)
But a little time left to wish you the best :D
Hope you will soon enjoy too !

23" Cinema Display Review

The first thing I noticed amount the cinema display was how *bright* it is. I was coming from a really nice 19" flat screen CRT Viewsonic PF790, and the difference between the two is astonishing.

My wife also has a 17" flat panel LCD that isn't the greatest quality, but it cannot even come close to the contast and brightness of the 23"

As far as a pink tint is concerned, I can't see it. I calibrated the display, set the gamma to PC (2.2) and was off and running.

I have no stuck pixels, and the backlighting appears consistent throughout the screen. The refresh time on the screen is also very, very good. Much better than the Dell 20" LCD I was used to using @ work.

The first thing I realized about the 23" was how much more productive I was. OS/X LOVES large desktops. It is highly graphical, and all those pixels need room. I was running 1344x1002 or something before on the 19" CRT. I am now running 1900x1200 on a 64MB Radeon 9000... and the result is simply astonishing.

I was pleased with the 'cable' that connects the Power, USB2.0, FW and DVI, but I am somewhat concerned about durability. There is something about all 4 cables being in one cablestrand that bothers me. That is just the PC-guy in me talking.

It takes up very little desk space. The controls are conveniently placed... and the think looks beautiful.

Oh did I mention the picture quality? Beautiful.

Is it worth the $1820 I paid for it? Dollar for dollar, I don't think so. I mean, I don't spend all day in front of the thing (it is a home PC), and a $800 LCD would have sufficed.

However, if you want the best, you gotta pay for it. BMW's are expensive for a reason. So is this monitor.

No regrets here. Gonna buy applecare for sure....

So far, I love the thing. Best monitor purchase I ever made.

This thread represents what MacRumors is meant to accomplish. This is sense of community. A way for those waiting for their G5 to get some support during the long wait. We are able to share experiences. :)

Absolutely.

Whether or not a reader finds much use in this particular thread, those still on it managed to make it through the several month wait a little easier.

Dual 2.0 G5 Rev. B Setup

After the DOA 2.5, I rolled back and picked up a Rev. B 2.0Ghz G5. Got here yesterday. Here it is with my TiBook. Machine has been nothing but quiet and no Thermal Problems.

speed difference DP 2.0 vs. DP 2.5

For video/DVD work and possibly Motion... how great of a difference should i expect between the 2 systems... I will get the 9800 Vidoe Card not the 9600.
Its just a chance to save a few bucks...anyone use the 2 systems that can compare ?
