My machine is the defualt 512mb...but not for long.

iAm really going to the store, anytime now.

Okay, I stand corrected.

Btw, i want to second what everyone else has been saying: that's an impressive setup you got there!

No website yet. But I have a domain...."chickenlunch.com"
My film company is Chicken Lunch Productions - "Entertainment that feeds the soul".

Yes, I really need a web site.

As for seeing my work. Tell me what kind of music you like, and I'll tell you what DVD I worked on in that genre (via private e-mail).

iAm in need of a website

iAm...if you do somehow need help in post-production. I could use a mentor that can teach me more. Seriously. Do you have an email I can contact privately. I would love to assist in any post-production you are doing. What's you're real name...I would love to check out your work. Thanks.

Well, FedUp was a no show today. Called them and now it's scheduled for tomorrow because of bad weather in Timbucktwo. Gezz, what a fiasco this buying experience has been.

What's up with the beeping noises? I see they replaced the 160G Seagate hard drives with Maxtors. They should be quieter. Do the fans rev up when under a heavy load or power set to Highest?

Are Maxtor drives TRUE Serial ATA or an IDE/ATA with a chip to bridge the interface?

I really hope for Seagate serial ATA, but Apple didn't promise it. I like Seagate drives -- very quiet if not the absolute fastest.

They do specify some brand of serial ATA though.

Leon,

I sent you a private message.

I hate Maxtor drives. They have the highest failure rate in my experience.
I've just received a quote on Seagate SATA drives at $250 for a 250.

Anybody seen any outstanding deals on memory?
Memory4Less.com has 512mb for $95 bucks.

iAm still on my way to the store

I have an IBM & a WD. IBM has been rock solid. They're in granite digital hot swappable cases that have done OK. I need to read up on raid and configurations for the 2.5 for logic pro, and FCP.

I bought two 1 gig ram modules from coast to coast memory for $420. Others selling the 2 gig packs for lower are NOT selling 2x1gig modules, but 4x512 modules, so you burn 4 slots.

Just got home right now, so I finally get to open the box. My previous Mac was a 400Mhz G3 iMac DV so this should be huge improvement.

Wow.. I'm glad that you got your computer!! Congrads!! Must be exciting opening the box and playing with your new Mac toy. I'm happy for u ^__^.

On another note.. whoever that said they think apple is sending in the correct order. I have to say.. NOT! I have an identical setup for my machine which I ordered in June... notice JUNE and I have YET to even recieve a shipping notice. I'm still on the "on or before 8/20". So.. do you still "THINK" they're shipping in the correct order?

Well, I called up the Apple store today and learned something from my talk for the first time.

1. The que is all screwed up due to system errors at Apple.

2. There are no delays depending upon what you ordered (except the 6800).

3. All those with an 8/20 date will see their powermac before 8/20. :)

I should have been one of the first to have my powermac, but I'll take it... :(

Thanks for the info, I hope the Apple rep is right. Sounds like they need to replace they're old G4's with some new G5's too! ;)

That is good news!

You orderd before I did, so hopefully you will get yours before me. It is great thing that someone has actually shed some light on what is going on, some news I can live with.

I see a contradiction in what you are saying like between 2) and 3).

I have ordered a 6800 equipped G5 and my date of shipment is stated as 8/20. So what does that mean for me? Is it delayed or not?

But system errors? This is hard to believe. The order status page lists your exact order date and time on the left. How hard is it to sort using this field? If they use a SQL database like everyone else, you can do this in 1 query. Also, what kind of system error messes up your queue order but does not lose your order at all?

And while I'm glad that most of you will get your orders on 8/20, does this mean I'm stuck with the 9/3 date for my 6/9 order?

Thanks! I completely agree. I posted my order date to disprove the Apple statement that orders are being shipped based on who ordered first. Although I am happy that it worked out in my favor :)

That is messed up. I ordered mine on 7/1 and my date is before yours.

They were going to...but you see their order is also screwed up, too.

The new setup app allows you to transfer your settings and apps from an existing OSX machine via FireWire Target Mode.
I'm waiting for the results now. Will post how it works later.

I saw that feature the first time I saw Tiger!

FedEx

and let's not forget how screwed up FedEx's tracking info page is, too. I hit reload every once in a while and sometimes my delivery time changes to Aug 5 - 8pm or Aug 5 6pm. And then it goes back to Aug 5 - 10.30am. It's already 4.30pm! I know it won't be delivered 'til tom at least (until another freak rainstorm arrives before the plane gets to leave IN), so can they update their site already.

It's here!!!

Finally.

Ordered 6/14, stock setup through the Apple Education Store.

3 hours late today, 1:30 instead of 10:30, "Thunderstorms in Indy."

Got so exausted waiting I had to take a nap after it arrived.

JUST woke up 2 hours later in a nightmare that the inside of the G5 box had just odd pieces of a computer thrown in there, a towel/rag, a worker's apron, and such.

I'm resting my left elbow on the unopened box right now as I type this and sip a cup of strong tea.

I didn't go back in the thread - has anyone posted pictures or anything yet?

Should I take pix as I open/set it up?

I hope that everyone who's been posting so anxiously on this thread for the last month gets there's tomorrow!

My meaning is that it was really delayed. The rest of us who ordered simply did not have our computers built because of the screwed up que.

From what I know and was told, if you have 8/20 you will see it around or before 8/20.
