I'm not sure. If you call up you may get lucky and find out some information like I did.

My poor little G3 B&W is part of the very first line to include Firewire. It's not very functional. It causes problems on the drives connected to it, and is too slow to use for recording. This poor little pup couldn't do the Firewire transfer. So I've moved most of my stuff using Ethernet. I have 60 GB of video project stuff to move overnight tonight. I wish mine could do the Firewire transfer. Oh well. At least I didn't lose my mail and most of my preferences.

I guess I should shut up and just be thankful my G5 is here.

I suspect there's a little more to it than what they told you, but at least someone is now owning up to the fact that there is a problem. It seems like it has made some of you feel a little better. At least you know something. That's always better than nothing. Still they should have told us day one.

Should I take pix as I open/set it up?

I hope that everyone who's been posting so anxiously on this thread for the last month gets there's tomorrow!

1. There have been pics posted already. Check out each in their cool environment.
2. Yes, it would be fun to see another G5 box being opened.
3. But where is the FedEx dude pic?
4. Can you post your tracking info since you received the package, pls. I'm just curious how it went from the delay in IN to finally getting to your place same day. I was told mine would come in tom due to the storm...sob.
 
I have a question for anyone with a new G5 who might be able to answer. I have an old iMac, and when my new 2.5 gets here i plan on transfering everything over via the new firewire system. Do I have to do this the first time I start the machine. Or can I bypass this and then re-run the setup assistant at a later time.

I'm just going to want to start playing with my new toy right away, and am going to have a hard time waiting for my 7 gigs of old stuff to copy!

You can re-run the Setup Assistant in the Applications|Utilities folder anytime to do the Firewire transfer. So, hey, you're in luck!

It would be nice to see your pictures also. Each person will do the pictures from a different perspective. So it will still be interesting. Then we get to share your joy.

It was nice of you to care about others.

By the way.. how are you enjoying your new comp? Any first impressions and comments that you could give me and my imagination until I recieve mine :p . I'm glad you didn't take my comments the bad way.. as some people on this forum would have immediately stamped me with the word "whiner".

[edit] I lied. I bought from the Apple Store online, but it's a Belkin product and I had to do a search on "ADC to VGA" to find it. If it was listed on the 3rd-party products page, then I missed it.

i could be wrong, but i remebered that those old B&W's needed a firmware update to do target disk mode.
 
The forum is slowly dying out as it becomes more quiet each day people receive their units. I want one too! FedEx if I don't see a delivery by tom, I'm coming right there to Indianapolis with my galoshes.

Anyone interested in a web forum dedicated to those using their MAC (New shiny 2.5's) for Audio / video work? It seems there are a bunch of us that do that kind of work ranging from hobby to pro and it may be a nice place where we can share our work and help each other ..

If you are interested then private e-mail me and if there are enough yes's i will get it setup ..

I have an identical setup for my machine which I ordered in June... notice JUNE and I have YET to even recieve a shipping notice. I'm still on the "on or before 8/20". So has anyone confirmed recieving a G5 2.5 with a 9800xt upgrade?

I haven't seen any reports. I ordered the afternoon they were released and I'm at 8/20 like a lot of people. My 23" screen is staring at me blankly. Please get here before 8/20. PLEASE!

Saw a report of one being shipped with the 9800xt. Do not know if he has recieved it yet.

There's still 62 people who haven't received theirs yet. Only 8 have received their macs.

BTW how 'bout some real world application & OS use speed descriptions versus 700-1ghz G4's, old G3's, dual USB ibooks etc etc.

i'd love to do that, I have a 733 G4, 1Ghz G4 and a 466 G3... but my 2.5 is slated for 9/20. :eek:
