DP...DP...

All I can think of is Dual Processor :D --what's DP stand for here?

DP = director of photography or cinematographer - that would be me!

He is responsible for giving the Director the "look" of the movie by being TRUE to the VISION of what you have imagined the scene to be. It would be nearly impossible to have a Director juggle between to concentrate on setting up the scene with actors and having to make sure they are properly lit for the scene and photographed. That's why you have a DP, he is your right-hand man who meets with you months prior to shooting where you discuss the movie scene per scene and he "advises" how to achieve what you want to achieve. Take note he does not dictate how it should look or how actors act. He only is there to fulfill YOUR creative vision. If he oversteps his boundary, he isn't a true DP but a wannabe director.

OT to LeonPro

LeonPro: I like your domain name, oneframeoff.com. That's really cool. I thought it was so cool in fact that I wanted to register onebitoff.com ('cause I'm a programmer-type) but alas for some reason godaddy.com and register.com won't let me yet nothing is listed in a WHOIS look-up. Ah well. But thanks for the creative inspiration, I'll think of something...

I've got at least three pages to read to catch up on this thread and I've only been gone a few hours. You guys sure are prolific posters today.

jdhuskey is ALIVE! Sorry dude. I'm on sem break so I've got whole day to post and by the end of the day I'm now senior member in this forum. Gaad!

Pics are excellent. I must say you are currently in first place. The UPS pic for mistaken identity is great. While the stalking pic of the FedEx guy from the balcony is priceless. Dude, two 20" monitors...woot! I can't even afford one. I'll probably save up for a 23" maybe by the time another model comes out...hmm.

The washed out pic of the AE antenna is hilarious and Earl's role-play in the G5 is the best.

OK--I hear Director of Photography all the time, I just have never heard it abbriviated to DP. Thanks!

The office couldn't go on without me today, so my day working from home and getting acquainted with my new Mac has been somewhat less than the honeymoon I expected, but the BIG DOG sure is nice...

Where's the plain old brushed metal photo album? I couldn't find it.

I loved your photos. They're even better than mine! Looks like your cat likes your G5 as much as you do! The FedEx guy shot was hilarious--he looked pretty freaked out!

After reading many of the posts in this thread, I'm almost sure Apple doesn't fulfill orders by date of order.

After complaining about shipping order an Apple rep today told me that items are shipped in order within the given channel they are orderd such as online, edu., gov., corp., retail, reseller, etc.

Thanks, kylector, for noticing and appreciating why I chose the domain name. Keep trying to get in touch with the owner in case he gives up and sells it to you. For a programmer, onebitoff.com sounds cool! But since I don't know much about programmer's lingo maybe you can think of something else that applies to your work and the idea of it. :)

Question: do these things come with vga adapter dongles?

Yes, the manual states it comes with one. jdhuskey's extensive pics prove it on the shot of the accessory. It is my understanding you can't have two VGA monitors though because I haven't seen an ADC to VGA adapter...only a DVI to VGA which is for one port.

Lots of gear there iAm. Do you have a website?

I'm also very curious... Where does the majority of your income come from in your field. ie...what type of customer and what kind of services do they want. Been curious about the home based outfits that are out there making a living with their gear. I'm a "no day job" musician. I slapped together this site and all its content on my g3 500 iBook.

iAm...very cool setup. I wish I could afford Shake. There is no student version. The first pic made me feel like I was in a roller coaster.

Believe it or not, there is such a thing, that is, an ADC to VGA adapter. I bought one from MacConnection because I was not originally planning to buy any new monitors at all, but my 17" Studio Display CRT died two weeks ago, and then I went on a spending binge. Unfortunately, the only thing purged was my bank account.

I purchased both the DVI to VGA and ADC to VGA planning to hook up my old monitors to the new beast. Now I don't need either one of them, but had to get an ADC to DVI adapter. I've spent $100 just on display adapters. That's sick.

[edit] I lied. I bought from the Apple Store online, but it's a Belkin product and I had to do a search on "ADC to VGA" to find it. If it was listed on the 3rd-party products page, then I missed it.

... and there's probably a channel for us Canadians that are waiting for our G5 2.5's... ho well, at least we kept entertained by the posts on this thread until we get our G5 2.5's.

WOW. Awesome setup! I take it you're a pro--There is NO WAY I could afford Shake (yet)! Very nice!

Thanks Hotwire. As far as being a pro, you could say that. :)
I just wish I had started doing all this when I was your age.
You'll go far.

Um... that's what I figured. I'm betting that the developer channel isn't even shipping yet.

Btw, so no one has gotten a machine with the default 512mb RAM configuration yet?

As for the pics of the arrived G5s, keep them coming! It's the only thing getting me through this wait.

Hey Solo,
yeah...lots of gear and still waiting for a new PowerBook (the one in the pic is my old 667mhz).
Most of my clients are music related. Without giving too much away, I've worked with everyone from Sting to 2 Live Crew to James Brown to The Grateful Dead to Fleetwood Mac...in the last 12 months.
I also do a lot of work for Chicago advertising agencies.
And finally, I get the occassional opportunity to work on a feature film (usually just the DVD authoring).
I need all the workstations because my clients expect the same type of turnaround as they get with the larger facilities.
I can't afford to wait on a computer to render. I need to be able to jump to the next system, or call one of my associates to pickup the pace.
I've had projects come in at 5pm and delivered them by 9am the next morning. It helps to have talented friends in the business.

iAm really going to the store...

No website yet. But I have a domain...."chickenlunch.com"
My film company is Chicken Lunch Productions - "Entertainment that feeds the soul".

Yes, I really need a web site.

As for seeing my work. Tell me what kind of music you like, and I'll tell you what DVD I worked on in that genre (via private e-mail).

iAm in need of a website
