Duff-Man says....nice idea....I agree that the thread is getting clogged up with all these posts (even though I made one too). Perhaps we can get the names of those that received added to the list so we can have a column in the table for the received date - might be interesting to look later on after most/all have gotten their computers....oh yeah!
 
What hard drive model did you receive?

I just realized that my hard drive model (I ordered a 250GB) came installed with a Hitachi HDS722525VLSA80. Are all drives shipping with the same model or I read somewhere that others received a Maxtor. I'm just curious. I was exactly hoping they ship it with the Desktar series, which it did. But kinda strange if they have different HD models in the assembly line.

Good idea, I will work on that a little later today. It's my anniversary today so I will probably work on it late tonight or tommorrow. In the meantime can someone email me a list of people who have received theirs and when they ordered?

Mine has a 160G Maxtor which is a lot quieter than the 160G Seagate in my dual 1.8G.

BTW...Hardware Monitor does not recognize the Maxtor drive. I wrote the author and he is fixing that. :)

Thanks, G5support. How does Hardware Monitor work with the motherboard? Is it able to detect the MB temp, too? If so, how come Apple doesn't have the utility if it's capable of such. Just wondering.

I certainly wish that we would have one of those here in Massachusetts. Hope that you will be successful. Not to blow your bubble, but I believe that the tax will actually be set on the process date and not the order date. You might want to check with Apple. Sorry, let us know what happens.
 
Shipping patterns and Evangelism

Good thinking with the external list, brykken. Not to get too greedy with this, but maybe we can collect all the various data points that others have noted -- machine configuration, store (Apple, Edu, Reseller), order location (part of the US/world) -- add it to the order date and see if we can find the pattern to these shipments. Definitely a project to begin AFTER one's anniversary celebration, however!

I note with pride that I am still dead last on this list.

And now, a call for action. As much as I am dying to read the reviews of your new G5s in this forum, we are Mac users here, which means we are evangelists for our platforms. Those of you who have these jewels set up on your desktops need to start posting your reviews where the great unwashed can read them, such as here:

I was worried about that too, but they applied the no tax thing today! I got the standard dual 2.5 with 1 GB DDR400 SDRAM, 250 GB HD and no 56k modem - tax-free, education discount and free shipping for $2,898.00. Expected to ship in 4-6 weeks. I am sure they will get more specific in a couple of hours.

Hey wdlove - Wanted to let you know that we are having one of those in Massachusetts. It'll be this 14th - no sales tax on anything. However, they placed a limit on the transaction - 2500 or less for the tax break.

I'm going to try to purchase my RAM that day. :)
 
THE Master Order List

I started the whole list nightmare guys. Sorry bout that. I was jotting down notes as I read the threads about every other day, and it turned into a spread sheet. I've been using that spreadsheet to spot trends and inconsistencies in fulfilling 2.5 orders. ( I had to find a productive way to keep myself entertained while waiting)

I saw lots of posts from frustrated early orderers, so..... I sorted that spreadsheet by "known" order date and posted ONLY Jun 9 & 10 orders & their data. I had no idea everyone was going to add ANY order date to that. So....(stupid me)...I blew off some errands I didn't want to do, and I added the new data to the info I had already pieced together in my occasional surfing & as of right now its a list of 107 people!!! I have a life and its grown so fast I can't keep up.

Speaking of having a life....Remember guys Brykken is going to put this list together in complete form AFTER his anniversary. He'll tell you about his plans. But I emailed him my spreadsheet of 107 orders and he'll take it from here.

In the meantime those that want to see all the data, but can't wait, can download the excel spreadsheet HERE (just click and it'll open a browser window and download the 30k document - I use safari & thats what it does.) Feel free to extrapolate trends & inconsistencies in the shipping and post your thoughts....When Brykken gets it up, all of us can add data to it THEN. SO just sit tight for a couple days & it'll be on his site.

I can't keep up anymore, so give Brykken a chance to get it up in a couple days and you can go nuts adding to it. Maybe we'll get the shipping thing figured out yet.

One day we will look back at the early days of the thread and wonder! (Especially those of us at the bottom of the list)
 
A quick tweak

Just posted a couple tweaks to the Legend area.

I can't complain as bad as most of you that ordered way back in June. This situation is just rediculous. I oredered my 2.5 on 7/30 with an on/before date of 9/14, but was told it should ship after the 2nd week of August. This person ordered a stock computer on 8/4 and had it shipped 8/6 2 days later? He not only gives the order status screen shot, but further down in the thread gives a link to the Fed Ex tracking info. 2 days wait for him. I called to complain to Apple and was told his shipped because it was stock and mine hasn't because it had added RAM (2Gig) and no modem. However I seem to remember plenty of old orders here that were stock from back in June. What is going on Apple?

Also how are so many of you getting free shipping?
I oredered mine online through the apple store with an EDU discount and had to pay for shipping.

Ground shipping should be free... I had that until I complained, and was then able to obtain standard overnite shipping for free. :D

This is my first Mac that I am buying to use with my ProTools LE studio. I have been using a PC forever and lost everything about 2 months ago. I know it is all my fault and I should have been backing up, but that was my last time dealing with PC crashes in PT. I will use my PC for programming still, but the MAC will be used exclusively for PT and should hopefully be a lot more stable. I haven't recorded anything in months expecting to get this computer. I am on a list with a reseller who kept getting pushed back. Last they heard was end of August. I ordered with Apple and figure I'll cancel the order if it isn't shipped before the reseeler gets it.

What I really don't understand is how this guy above ordered and had his ship within 2 days, what is going on at Apple?

My experience with phoning Apple customer service has taught me that the reps doens't seem to know anything and just make up stuff on the fly to keep customers satisfied. Most likely, the person you spoke to didn't know anything specific about this particular order and just made up an explanation.
 
I'm getting ready to perform downtown tonight, and just realized that 13 Dual 2.5ghz G5's have been delivered and I have yet to read more than a couple passing comments from those that have received them.

It would be cool if someone posted some everyday use/speed stories --app launching, OS speed, etc. :) So I can start picturing what it'll be like when I fire mine up.
