Dual 2.5GHz PowerMacs Shipping

This may be a little off topic, but I'm finally looking to replace my 1 button mac mouse with a new multi-button scroll whell mouse.

I've been reading all sorts of reviews and have narrowed it down to either the Logitech 310 or the Logitech 500 (cant use the 510 because i'm lefty).

My concerns are that some people say the 310 is too small for their hands and others say that the 500 is too big (I feel a bit like Goldie Locks, with the expception of being a 30 year old man instead of a little blonde girl). Does anyone have any experience with these, or any other mice, that they would recommend to accompany my eagerly anticipated 2.5. My primary uses are graphic design, editing and a little gaming here and there.

Duff-Man says....I had always used a Kensington mouse until I tested out the Logitech 500...it has been my fave since I got it. My hands are not overly big or small...average I'd say and I find it fits my hand very well. Is there somewhere you can go and get a feel for it - that's the best way to test it out. It is contoured for the right hand though and has buttons for the thumb on its left side - that could be an issue for you. Do they make a lefty version of this one - I didn't see it mentioned on their site? ....oh yeah!

Man, I am seriously dissapointed that I haven't heard anything about my 2.5! Only two weeks to the fabeled August 20th but right now it seems like forever AND who knows they may just push it back again! I was really hopeful that I would hear something today but it seems like it's not going to happen. :(

I would like to remind everyone that at this time last year, the dual 2.0GHz machine was announced in June and did not ship until September.

So be greatful that it even says 8/20 for the most of you!

It left Shenzhen, CN on August 6 at 10:16 PM. I ordered it on 7/19 through my university store, and it's a university faculty order, so maybe those are getting some priority here. Someone reported that they're processing edu, gov, adc, apple stores, other retailers, in individual priorities, so maybe there aren't many edu 2.5 orders. I am very surprised about this---pleasantly surprised for me, but I'd be down too if I'd ordered on 6/9 and was behind someone ordering on 7/19. I suppose we'll have to see how this plays out.

WOW, Congrads~.. I ordered EDU too but in June. Haven't recieved any shipping notice yet. :( I'm so jealous of u.. I really want my computer to come before University starts for me. At least give me a week to play with my 2.5 before university takes over my life.
 
HORROR STORY FOR MY NEW G5 2.5GHz - A GOOD READ

I haven't posted the whole day because I'm actually having problems with the unit I received. Yes, I received the G5 by noon. I brought my digital camera to take pictures, but I didn't be able to because the elevator on my building is surprisingly being fixed. I'm on the 9th floor and the FedEx person is waiting on the ground floor, naturally. So I do the unthinkable and carry the G5 up the flight of stairs.

Before coming back to the forum, had to check and hook up the unit to make sure everything is running perfectly. Well, it is...super duper quiet. Popped an audio CD in the super drive and I don't even hear any noise of any kind. Perfect. However, go thru the whole setup and here's what I find:

Btw, I ordered Bluetooth, Modem and Airport Extreme together with Superdrive, 1GB and the stock 9600XT video card.

HERE GOES - My Airport signal from the G5 is showing one dot to none actually. It loses its signal every second. While the PBG4 500MHz and iBook Dual USB for three years its been with me has never showed any fluctuation and is always on full signal. Plus I had a PC Intel P4 3.0GHz last year which I built and slapped on Linksys wireless PCI card and its signal is full, too. My room is small and I have an Airport Extreme base station to flood the room with wireless signal.

Spotting spotting is wrong, I call Apple Service and I go thru the usual walk-thru. Lo and behold the serial number they assigned to my G5 DOESN'T EXIST. I read the same serial number from the "about this Mac" to the System Profiler then onto the inside of the G5 and on the box. All are the same serial number, but it is not recognizable.

She said she could not assist me because there was no number to assist me with. I demanded service and she said she will manually have Apple enter my serial number (but it would take days).

For all the walk-thru, she suggested she can't find anything wrong with the setup and suggest I take the unit to my nearest Apple service to have them check. So I jump and make an appointment with the Genius Bar at my local SF Apple Store. I bring it in and they once again couldn't verify my serial number despite having scanned the bar code inside the case. They look in awe at the G5 2.5 first before they finally spring into action to try and diagnose it. They try two more Airport Extreme cards (three in total including my own factory installed part) and all show the same thing despite the whole Apple store being fully wireless.

The diagnosis is that there is either something wrong with the wire connecting from the card to the case or the logic board is defective. They suggested I can have them fix the unit or ask for a replacement directly from Apple. Of course I opt to ask for a replacement than have them touch it and break something even more. So I go home and make a call to the Apple rep once more.

I reach home. Connect the unit and call. Once again I am undergoing the frustration that my serial number doesn't exist. I explained it is not my fault that I did not assign the serial number, they did.

Sadly my only option is to have the unit fixed by the local Apple service shops. I explained I wanted a replacement, but he kindly explained it was not possible because it has to undergo several repairs before they deem its fully defective. I demand that I wouldn't want to bring it in to my local Apple store because they might just play around with the parts. He said I had many other choices in my area who were authorized to fix it like CompUSA. CompUSA?! No way. I explained to him this was brand new and that why would I trust anyone to even pull apart the G5 in pieces.

He understood and offered the only final thing I could do is to purchase the AppleCare warranty for the unit. By doing so, I am allowed for in-house repair. Someone will go to my place and replace the logic board and whatever part will be needed. That was the only way I could make sure the unit was being handled with care by my watching him perform the fix.

I said if that was my only option, then so be it. I would like to purchase the AppleCare right now and have them order the necessary parts and have someone go to the place to fix it. Guess what? I couldn't enroll in AppleCare because....my serial number doesn't exist.

So they have escalated the issue of my serial number. By doing so can they accomodate fixing the G5. I would be receiving a call by next week because it is now the weekend and there is nothing they can do.

I can't imagine the brand new G5 has a defective part. After all this waiting, I get this. Am I luck to receive my unit ahead of the others? Not anymore if you get this kind of frustration.

I just wrote this warning you guys of a POTENTIAL LOGIC BOARD problem in the new G5 units. For those who ordered and got the G5 with AE, can you please check for me if the signal is strong. If that's the case, then it could just be very well the wire has snapped somewhere along the way from the card to the case.

And by the way, yes I connected the AE antenna on my G5 case. I brought it with me to the Apple Store, too. So it's really something inside that is defective.

Hi, guys. Not to bring out any scare, but at least you know that receving your unit early does not mean its Christmas.

And not to sound heroic, but I would rather it happen to me (one person) than to everyone here in the forum. Am I devastated? Of course. But **** does happen and I will deal with it.

Does the rest function properly? Perfect. No noise. Superdrive is quiet. No chirping anywhere. The liquid cooling is spewing liquid. So that should be fine. Right. Right? Oh, f@ck! Just kidding. Bringing some humor to my otherwise...

BTW, my serial number isn't showing up either--I couldn't register my AppleCare :(. They "escalated the issue" for me as well.

Lucky for me, my G5 is working fine...then again, I don't have AirPort.

I've been following this forum for a while now looking for some information of shipments & reviews. Congrats to those who have recieved their G5's. Heres hoping that they come soon, without problems!

I ordered over the phone from the Apple Store for Education. Had the 7/30 ship date, then 8/20. Got an email from Apple last weekend saying that they were trying to process my order but my over-protective bank told them to pound sand. Got that resolved and it's been radio silence ever since.

Actually, I'm in the odd position now where I kind of hope I don't get a shipping notice until closer to the 20th. After three weeks of waiting, I'm headed down to Jamaica on Monday for a week and a half business trip (I know that sounds fun, but I'll just be enjoying the insides of lots and lots of Jamaican conference rooms). At this point, I really don't want to get that shipping notice tomorrow that says my new baby arrives on Tuesday. I think I would have to swim home...

Let's see, the other obligatory information... I ordered a 23" Cinema HD display which came last week and looks beautiful in its box. (My current Macs, a 450 Mhz G4 and a 550 Mhz Powerbook, don't have the gumption to actually run it, though.) Apple beat their ship date on that one by about two weeks.

I'm not mad at Apple. I've been doing this for too long, and I know the drill. Still, this is the first time I've ever bought the "top of the line" -- in the past, the middle machine has always seemed like the better deal.

I have been enjoying everyone else's triumphant shipping stories. If I wasn't out of town next week, I'd ask my fellow Atlantan, jdhuskey, for visitation rights. :rolleyes:

LeonPro - I feel for you, man. That's just wrong. I think you did the right thing getting the AppleCare, though. Hopefully, the repair person will be a 21-year old Swedish girl with killer cheekbones and a delicate touch with a soldering gun...
