On today's call to Apple I was informed that my order has been recognized by the assembly plant and can no longer be changed, it could still be canceled but no longer changed. The guy on Apple's end of the phone couldn't say if that meant it would ship soon or not. Of interest, my credit card was pre-authorized yesterday. Maybe this is good. I'm trying not to get excited.

Next time any of you call Apple ask if you can still change your order?

I talked to a guy and all he said (he was only looking at the order status page) was that it could be changed but it wasn't wise for me to do it. He said it is basically like reordering and would mess up my ship date. Seemed like he knew something... :D

I called Apple Billing and was notified that my hold from 7/29 was still in affect.

I never thought I would see the day where someone from Europe got their Apple product before someone in the U.S.

Better inform President Bush. He'll put this right... :D ;)

Don't even joke about it....

He seems dumb enough.

Setup assistant and multiple hard drives

WOA said:
Crunchy, I've another question about the assistant. Does it also copy data from a second harddrive or different partition? Or does it copy the boot drive only? I'm asking because I have a second harddisk on my G4 and the main HDD is divided into three partitions. Maybe someone else can answer this, too.

I don't know for sure about second *internal* hard drives (or multiple partitions), but it didn't copy the contents of my external hard drive. Fortunately, all that hard drive has is a backup of my documents folder, and my iTunes library. It was quite a bit faster (about 25%) to consolidate that iTunes library (83 gigs) than it was to run Setup Assistant (6 gigs). I'm still puzzled about that one....

Just as a heads up..

I ordered 7/12 through ADC..

CTO w/Bluetooth, 1GB, 6800 Ultra.

Just got pre-authorization charge on my Visa today. This is the first time it's happened since I ordered, and due to the approaching 8/20 date I was given, I'm convinced it's shipping soon!

The Apple store is currently holding me G5, running their better testing software.

What do you guys think?

RustyM...I feel for you, dude. Remember I was the first person in this thread to report casualty of the G5. The cable for my AE is defective. Apple rep promised to call me on Monday. It is now Tuesday and still no call.

Was your serial number recognized by Apple? I couldn't get proper service because of this issue.

Anyway, I also think your liquid cooling pump isn't working properly that it overheats and goes to sleep. Hopefully it's just a simple loose wire or something like that. And keep us informed.

Please! Tell me your secret!

134 total orders

Of those, 16 have arrived in the last 8 days.

I ordered on 6-26

There are 48 orders in front of mine. And thats NOT including non-USA orders and reseller orders, but that includes estimated shipping dates beyond 8-20.

Okay, just curious.

How did you get your info about how many orders are in front of you?

I have asked the Apple Store and they say that they don't have access to that information. Is that BS, or am I asking the wrong question to the wrong people?

Ordered 6/24 and getting impatient watching other people getting theirs before me. (no offense meant!)

Welcome to the forum. If you've been following the thread you will realize that the stats Solo-act has been preparing for us is from the G5 owners in this thread.

His stats do not include people who are NOT in this forum, but it is accurate enough to give us a birds-eye view of how Apple has been handling the orders.

Has any owners noticed a wavy or ripple effect when scrolling? My 1.8GHz never done it with the NVIDIA graphics card. It has to be an ATI graphics card/driver issue. OS 10.3.5 update didn't help it any. It's not real bad and doesn't do it when using the arrow keys to scroll, but it is a little annoying. Other owners have commented about it on Apple's Discussion Boards.

If your order beats my estimated delivery of 9/3 - which was placed on 6/11 ADC order w/9600 XT with BT/AE...

...there will be blood spilled. :p

(seriously I will be mad that a similar order that was a month later is received before mine)

Yea, I notice that when I scroll a text document. It becomes real apparent when the screensaver kicks on. Almost looks like a horizontal scan line that slowly moves up the screen. The update to 10.3.5 didn't solve it for me either.

For those still waiting impatiently for the G5, you might be interested in a new development that occurred at Siggraph today! - Maxon revelead Cinema 4D R9, and amongst the enormous amount of new features (which are mind blowing to us 3D guys!) was the small fact that now Cinema 4D is G5 optimised meaning that those best figures done with the optimised Cinebench are no longer theoretical!

If like me, you are upgrading from a 1Ghz G4, you will be getting roughly 7x the rendering speed you currently do! :D if like some of you, are upgrading from G4 400s etc, you will be getting about 15-16x the render speeds!!

Yes it's true finally. And on top of that now it supports also dual planes (with Radeon-cards)! So this will be a hell of a speedbump when you come from a G4 with R8.X WOOHOO!

Well, actually my 2.5 DPG5 does not render 15x as fast as my single G4...

BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE IT YET

Ahh, that feels better : )

If you have microsoft excel, you can download and open this spreadsheet. Its just consists of notes I've taken as I've surfed the thread (mostly since 7-25). Right now, its sorted according to order date. But you can sort it according to any column.

I did two different quick sorts to get the data I did. You can really look into that spreadsheet and get an idea of where your order is compared to those who've already received, those about to receive and those who ordered before you.

Poor me! :(
Ordered 9 June from Apple Store UK, w/Bluetooth, otherwise stock, paid by wire transfer (received by Apple 15 June), still no shipping confirmation or anything. Thanks Apple for pissing on my parade.

same here, I start to wonder if it's legal to keep our money for about 10 weeks without delivering the product.
I mailed them for compensation but they declined and have stopped answering my mails since then.

cheers.

I agree, GnOm, and when we in Europe who ordered on 9 June see those lucky people in the US who ordered in mid-July receiving their G5 2.5 before us, it makes us question Apple's set of priorities.

The reason I think this happens is, if US customers were similarly shafted, the news would make it into the Mac media there. Apple don't want that. Who cares about the foreigners? Let them wait.

The next one's a Dell!

I ordered from Apple UK on 28th June, and I have a shipping date of 16th August. I called Apple and they seem to think thats accurate.

Bit of background. I ordered on 5th July (1GB RAM / 250 SD / 6800 / BT) from Apple Store UK. My ship by date was 24th August. On 30th July I received the email telling my that my ship by date had changed to 3rd September. The Apple Store UK website remained at 24th August. I emailed them asking why the dates were different, which I should believe.

Today I received an email from Apple Store UK (in Ireland!) as follows:-

Thank you for your e-mail and apologies for the delayed response.

The latest possible shipment date for your order is the 24th August.

We will however do our utmost to ship your order before that time.

When this order ships you will receive an e-mail of shipment notification. From this point please allow 3 to 6 business days for delivery. You can track the order and delivery status by using the following method:
etc etc.

I love the phrase "latest possible shipment date". I am choosing to see this as a positive sign that they might be getting it sorted. Its got a 6800 graphics card as well and we haven't seen one of these ship yet as far as I can tell. (Maybe they didn't notice this)

Don't hold your breath...

While I hope you get your's soon, I wouldn't wait by your front door just yet. My card got a preauthorization charge for my 2.5G5/6800 weeks ago -- the same time they preauthorized my 23" Cinema. Despite that, nothing has changed with my estimated ship date.
