I don't know what I'm going to do if my 2.5MP tower with a 6800 DDL doesnt ship by 8/20 like it has said on the site since 7/29 when they delayed my ship date by 20 days.

Apple is really faltering here.

Although I would like your machine to be shipped as soon as possible, I think it's only normal since Apple always stated that the 6800 cards weren't shipping until late august.. But then again, it wasn't very smart of them to put you on a 20/8 date if they already know they aren't going to make it.

Hey, it may very well be true, and if so, please post some pics of your 6800 ;)

The most annoying part is that the rep i talked to when i upgraded my order from the 9800XT claimed that my ship date would not be pushed back by more than 9 days.

I need this machine for a school project that appears will have no 3D animation in it at all; I can model and animate perfectly fine with my Pismo G4 with 8MB of VRAM, but rendering is hopeless.

Definitely.

Customs isn't my friend today!

Anyone else having problems with their G5's clearing customs in Alaska? Mine's been stuck for a couple days. It's frustrating to know that its on its way only to be held up. Granted, I understand the idea of heightened security these days, but come on Apple. Have the correct paperwork ready. Sheesh.

If anyone has faced this before, is it just a sit and wait issue or is there some dept I can call? Fedex said they are waiting for Apple to get back to the broker in the Custom's Dept.

G5-ALMOST here!

Yea, I notice that when I scroll a text document. It becomes real apparent when the screensaver kicks on. Almost looks like a horizontal scan line that slowly moves up the screen. The update to 10.3.5 didn't solve it for me either.

I have never experienced this before, but have heard of others mention a problem similar to this. there is apparently an option called "Smooth Scrolling" somewhere in the preference panel. Try shutting that off and see what happens.

Duff-Man says...Customs delays sometimes happen even with "correct paperwork." All imports are periodically subjected to random verification and examination....hang in there...it's coming.....oh yeah!

same

same boat...literally. the torture never ends no matter what. I KNOW there are tons of people on this site getting MUCH worse. don't misunderstand.

it's INCREDIBLE that every step of shipping these computers has been apple dropping the ball every time. they can't email a straight answer, update their website order status, tell anyone the situation and or truth of delays and now are shaky when importing their own product. to quote: Sheeesh.

let's hope it goes out today and they start rolling out the rest!

The down side to ordering from a reseller - we have no idea when they are going to ship.

The upside (other than the savings) is knowing that we won't have to deal with customs when they finally do ship :)!

At least you know its on the way and should be there soon. hang in there!

Hmm, I think everything that's shipped from China to the US has to clear customs, no matter if you ordered online or through reseller, for the customs, that's all the same thing

Bit of background. I ordered on 5th July (1GB RAM / 250 SD / 6800 / BT) from Apple Store UK. My ship by date was 24th August. On 30th July I received the email telling my that my ship by date had changed to 3rd September. The Apple Store UK website remained at 24th August. I emailed them asking why the dates were different, which I should believe.

Today I received an email from Apple Store UK (in Ireland!) as follows:-

Thank you for your e-mail and apologies for the delayed response.

The latest possible shipment date for your order is the 24th August.

We will however do our utmost to ship your order before that time.

When this order ships you will receive an e-mail of shipment notification. From this point please allow 3 to 6 business days for delivery. You can track the order and delivery status by using the following method:
etc etc.

I love the phrase "latest possible shipment date". I am choosing to see this as a positive sign that they might be getting it sorted. Its got a 6800 graphics card as well and we haven't seen one of these ship yet as far as I can tell. (Maybe they didn't notice this)

Guess what, I just received another reply from Apple Store UK to my original email. It says

"The e-mail sent to you stating the new estimated shipping date of on or before 3rd September is correct."

So not the latest possible shipment date then!! I guess our Irish friends at Apple Store UK have been on the same "Managing Customers Expectations" course as their collegues in the US. Weh-hey!

Yeah - they are all coming from the same place, but when I get my ship date, its shipping from a reseller in the states - so when it's on its way, I know that there won't be any customs hold-ups. When I'm actually able to track it, I won't have to cry when it sits in China for 3 days!

ah yes, now I see what you meant by "no customs". Jep, that's true, but my reseller is only half an hour drive away, so I won't go tracking my package ;), I'll just throw my phone away (the one where the reseller just called to say my order is in), jump in my car, race towards the reseller, pay, load my boxes in my car and race back home!

how's that, fedex! ;)

"Smooth scrolling" is found in the Appearance section, but that isn't related to fixing the mentioned problem. This particular feature only pertains to the way the scroll bar acts when you click on the space to scroll down the page. If it's unchecked, the page will JUMP to the section. If it is ON, the page will GLIDE to the section. Hope this helps.

I just tried toggling it on and off and tried what you said and saw no difference. If I open a large thread - such as this forum, hit home and then click in the scroll space all the way at the bottom of the page, the page kind of staggers and jumps to the bottom regardless of my settings. checking or unchecking smooth scrolling seems to have no effect. i'm using firefox, so i don't know if that matters. i'll try it safari too.

I have definitely read that people were having weird graphic anamolies when scrolling, and turning off or on smooth scrolling helped to fix the problem.

Could somebody call some Apple Stores and ask them about their first batch of G5's they are expecting (date)?

DWKlink, I haven't used any other browser than Safari - and it works for me. In my experience the features in Apple's pref panel only work for their products. Third-party products have their own settings either in the prefs within the software or they place their own "tab" in the pref panel.

Nightmare...!

I think all this waiting is slowly getting to me...

I had a dream last night where my est. shipping was changed to Aug. 31. I had to quickly check my order status this morning: it's still currently Aug. 20.

Am I finally going insane??

Can I ask what machine this is happening to? My girlfriend's iBook behaves the same regardless of the scrolling setting, while my MDD behaves as expected, so it may require quartz extreme.

I'm running a MDD with 10.3.4 - its my machine at work.

Smooth scrolling worls for me in Safari whether I'm using my PBG4 500MHz (which has no quartz extreme function) or G5 2.5GHz.

I have these nightmares almost every night. One time I dreamed that several boxes came in the mail but they were all smaller than the computer itself. So that was my nightmare of all the accessories arriving without the computer.

I keep checking my email every 5 minutes to see if i have a ship notice. my productivity at work has seriously taken a turn for the worse!
