People are saying "what do you expect, Apple are a US based company".

That is the problem, Apple are meant to be a global company, and they consistantly ignore anywhere out side the US borders.

To compete globally, you have to take the world outside your own borders seriously. Apple, quite frankly do not.

This has been seen many, many times - for example iPhoto services, sherlock. Apple have had ample time to sort this out for other countries, and yet, they still have not. No updates to sherlock, nothing. No iPhoto services outside the US. It is obvious Apple are only interested in serving the US, otherwise they would have done something about it by now..

Also, the iPod volume. All european countries suffer from low volume and many people are complaining about it. In fact, this just effects the French, but yet, Apple choose to screw up every other European country with lower volumn. This is not necessary. Many people are complaining - look on the apple ipod discussion groups and other ipod related websites.

Glad you don't own a global business

I was actually going to reply but you clearly have no understanding of how a business functions globally nor anything about EU rules on sound volume!! so it's not worth the finger taps. But try to make your day better, you seem very depressed.

Re: Glad you don't own a global business

Enlighten us please about EU volumn laws.

It seems that a large amount of people don't know either...

Yeah! I mean, imagine what would happen to Sony if we in U.S. couldn't buy their latest and greatest gadgets the minute they were released in Japan.

Oh, wait.

Okay, umn, imagine what would happen to BMW if we in the U.S. couldn't buy their latest and greatest cars the minute they were introduced in Germany.

Okaaaaayyyy...

So, imagine what would happen to Universal Pictures if they staggered the release of their films so that different nations got movies opening on different dates...

Nevermind.

:D

I'm not just talking about the available of G5 only, buts Apple attitute towards International markets generally.

It stinks, basically.

I'm sure international users would agree with me, as you have seen if you read on past topics that were to do with iPhoto, Sherlock etc.

I'm going a bit off topic... apologyies.

Sony does release items in Japan first. They also release killer Japanese only items (visit dynamism.com to buy Japanese only items from many global technology companies).

Europe gets the coolest new Nokias and Sony-Ericsson cellphones first.

Give it up. Companies take care of their largest markets first. Much like my Dual pre-order going to a student first instead of me.

A buddy of mine in Malaysia is telling me that the single proc G5s are on display in the Apple store there and quite a few companies are making G5 purchases. He should know, he ordered a few for the firm he's working at. And the shipping date is all about the same as everyone else, 4 to 6 weeks! I think Apple is doing the best they can and treating all orders, local or international, quite fairly. As for the added value services (iPhoto book orders, Sherlock, etc.), I think its fair enough to concentrate on the local US market since that is where the largest demand exists. And going back to the Sony example, I sure can't get one of those latest and greatest / laser beam shooting / super spy camera communicator techie gizmo phone thingies in the US yet! And that's tangible hardware, not service-based extensions!

From my understanding Europe and other markets are to receive the G5 a month or so after it is available in the US.

I am a consumer electronics fan wanting the latest and greatest in miniDV camcorders. It makes me sick to see all these Sony and Panasonic camcorders released in Japan that NEVER EVEN MAKE IT to the USA. So either I have to pay outrageous prices from some importer AND live with menus in Japanese (I can only understand English), or else do without.

So that fact that you are receiving this a month later is not that big a deal. Now if you were not even getting G5's, then you would have reason to complain.

Yeah, fair enough. It's bad practice in a way, bout it's probably our fault for being so desperate. In another environment, we could always turn to a competitor, after all...

But things like the iPhoto services are much harder to forgive. It's not like they've not had time now.

The trick is to show willing, as Apple seem to be with the G5 (domestic education first ,everyone else next) and not contempt (european iPod noise limiting - simply a crass cost cutting measure failing to take into account that france is a different country - and iPhoto services etc.)

I set the dual 1.42Ghz G4 display model to fold, and now recently it has been returning no results.
The computers are restored back to an initial state every day.

I haven't read these "past topics" you mention, but -- even though this isn't the point of your messages -- I can assure you that you're not missing out on much.

Apple isn't that bad at distributing hardware in Europe (well UK is all I can speak for).

We aren't a month behind on the G5 releases. Our office recived a G5 last week and another early this week.
Already shipped to customers so can't test or play with I'm afraid.

I expect my dual 2 gig within in week or two so that will be ok if they they come through

I'm thinking about purchasing a 2.0 GHz G5, w/a Radeon 9800...

But I won't if I can expect my order to be here in November, at which point I might as well sit tight and wait for an update.

What do you think is a realistic time to expect my order to come in if I place it within that next few days?

Is there anyone else who has ordered recently and has one of Apple's est. shipping dates?

you can just enter in your order and not actually buy, and it will tell you the weeks.

i recently ordered (and since cancelled) a dual 2 ghz with 9800, etc... 5-7 weeks. basically, middle of october.

Look at BMW and Mercedes - new models are on the road in Germany well before they are available here - and it is not related to U.S. or North American "certifications". I ordered my G5 in June several days after WWDC, I live only 3 hours from Apple HQ in Cupertino and 3 hours from the assembly facility in Sacramento - my G5 has yet to arrive. Apple has a huge demand for these new machines and appears to be on track - we have all waited for years for them to move forward from the MOTO MESS and the future looks bright finally - lets give Apple some credit & support.

I agree. I'm glad someone realizes that Apple doing its best to KEEP UP with a LARGE NUMBER of orders is something GREAT that we haven't seen in a while.

What haven't we seen for a long while, a large number of orders or people being polite about something?

Either way, good stuff everyone. Well done for emptying your manners and (where appropriate) your patience! ;)

Re: Screwed?????

The G5 is not made entirely in the US, but in countries "half around the world".
Same is true for the cars you mention.

I think Apples policy of anouncing "virtual" shipping dates, that are not met is VERY BAD, regardless of the country. I need a new computer really bad (using a Powerbook G3 at the moment) and want to know when I can go into a store and buy a G5, so I can plan accordingly.

Order status says 8/29 still

My order status says tommarow my 2ghz will ship.

Also before today it was formatted poorly, double spaced etc...

Today everything is nice and neat as if some human has gone over the order and
checked things.

I'm hoping my machine starts shipping tommarow... then there's a week of tracking it's movements :)

Yeah but they don't ANNOUCE that they will ship the same time and the let this date just pass on. Apple basicly says: Order a G5 now and have it delivered - hmmm- sometime...

It would be no probleme if Apple would give accurate shipping dates and meet them with a sufficient volumen even if it was October or November. I care about when the computer is availale HERE and not somewhere else.

Actually blahblah, the CompUSA there does not re-image each day. The mac section is pathetically small, a tiny niche in the back that hardly anyone ever visits. I set it up and it folded strong for about three weeks, returning quite a few results. Then about two or three days ago results from it suddenly stopped coming in. There is only one display G4 that has a network connection, and that is the one I "hi-jacked." It looked lonely and bored, so I gave it something to do.

Hm .. Good to know. I'm impressed that the machine could go for that long without needing to be re-imaged.

Reading Tea Leaves

For what it is worth I have a 8/29/2003 est. ship date for a Dual Proc 2 Ghz... I called apple today to update credit card info (taking no risks) and the guy 'researched it' and told me my machine was being built at that moment... literally. There was a box with my name on it.

For those hoping for an overnight delivery this weekend, I was told their carrier agreement does not include saturday delivery.

Shipping is close though. Very close.
