Mine still says 9/26.

Mine still says 9/26.
Just called 1-800-myApple (middle of the night) and the guy answered in Ireland, said he couldn't help me .

The Apple rep said NOBODY has Dual 2.0 G5's, except a few prototypes.

He said he works in the factory where they're being made, and they were having delays.

So, imagine what would happen to Universal Pictures if they staggered the release of their films so that different nations got movies opening on different dates...

The same things that happen with all movies that open up at different dates, people download crappy copies off the net instead of going to the movies. Bad example.

There are computers coming from Apple and it will take a while for all orders to be completed, just a week or two longer for those I know ordered here in Sweden.

For those who lack specific services outside the US I can somwhat agree that it's unfortunate, but I think those services would have less acceptance in other countries. Canada doesn't seem to far off though ...

What I haven't seen anything about is the noise. Benchmarks are of course interesting, but how loud will my dual G5 be after doing movie effects for a couple of hours?

This:

may (or may not) answer your question. Basically you can hear how loud the G5 gets when you take the clear guard out and the fans go into full blast mode. Whether your G5 will ever get into such a state is another question.

BTW, this is just a great little movie of the G5 insides. Got it from macbytes.com.

According to my order status it's still at 9/2...and hasn't ever changed. I'm guessing that it really hasn't changed for anyone, and it's just a glitch in their system. I would wait until next week and if no one gets one, then start gettin upset. Gettin all worked up now doesn't do any good :D

Perhas it's best to view it as a good thing. Now, form an outssiders perspective I see a company that knows it can take minor liberties with its loyay customers, but you could view it as them simply having trouble fulfilling more orders than they anticipated. That'd be a nice thought. Eating into that PC market share, at least in terms of profit per unit...

delayed as well

just to add my name to the list of unhappy customers... I ordered my g5 6/25 and up until last night my ship date was 8/29... was even told yesterday by an apple factory rep that it was literally being built, there was one with my name on it.

apparently not built too fast.

new ship date 9/26 which seems to be worse than others with later order times.

maybe it is the extra 512 RAM at the inflated price?

Apple Ships two Power Mac G5's before months end.

CUPERTINO, California—August 29, 2003—Apple® today announced that it has begun shipping a total of two dual 2.0 GHz Power Mac® G5's, the world's fastest personal computer.

"Ten days ago, Apple® said that we were on track to ship dual 2.0 GHz Power Mac G5 machines and today, Apple® has indeed delivered on its promise to ship these two machines before months end," said Phillip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

"Further deliveries of dual 2.0 GHz Power Mac G5 computers will be determined at a date and time of our choosing and we hope to have current orders shipping by Christmas," added Mr. Schiller.

Sort of makes you wonder...

wait I didn't see that on apple.com/pr oh I get it... that was supposed to be funny..... isn't there a bus you could step in front of maybe make a QT movie about it... that would be funny

Has anyone had their 9/2 ship date changed to 9/26..or was it just the 8/29 people.......I might have to wait till Tuesday to find out I have to wait another month......ugh

Got an email from Apple

But it was a #$%?ing advertisement. No new information about why we have been shafted.

If it was a computer glitch, as some have suggested, I would have to say Apple's IT Dept must suck. I mean I've only been following Apple for the last couple of months and this would be the second major foul up. I know all of you remember the G5 specs accidentally made it onto their website. I remember that night was a very good night for many. I guess it was a bad night for a former Apple IT guy.....Or maybe the ship date monitoring was his second chance!

Anyway I've calmed down a little and intend to call Apple this morning to figure this thing out.

A critic that likes physical humor.

I think I'll need a stunt double for that QT movie, since I'm so terrible at making funny, I hope you're available.

Have a mime day.

At the very least I'll give them till Tuesday to see if indeed the shipping is delayed...If the 9/2 orders aren't being pushed back, I can't imagine that the 8/29s are, I don't think even Apple would sink that low...

I had my order status change from 8/29 to 9/26 last night. At 9:20 AM EDT I spoke to an Apple rep at the Apple store to confirm the change. He said it was correct, and Apple was having trouble getting them out the door.

one extra month worth of trouble getting them out the door? If the delay is this long, apple knew some time ago they'd miss the ship date.

Just got off the phone with my Higher-Ed sales rep....some delays in configured duals....they wont be end of sept though....but they wont be today either....but my University order for standard duals is set to ship tuesday and she said that some were leaving as we spoke.....so all might be ok....well see

Same Here

I ordered a Dual the night of the Keynote and status is now 9/26...it changed at about 9 PM PST last night. This pretty much sucks.....

They aren't all going to be delayed until the end of September, but did anyone really believe that EVERY pre-order was going to ship on 8/29? Some of them will ship starting today I'm sure, just not anywhere near all of them. I think it's rather unrealistic for anyone to believe that Apple would ship over 50,000 systems in one day.

Apple said they would start shipping duals on 8/29, just as they said the 1.6 & 1.8s would start shipping on 8/18. As we all saw, most stores didn't actually start getting the singles in stock for another week after that and the same will hold true with the duals. I just can't believe that so many people are this surprised considering what just happened with the single processor models last week. Considering how long it's taken to finally have G5s available after talking about them seemingly for years, another week or two certainly isn't going to kill anyone. For anyone willing to cancel their order over such a trivial delay, you REALLY need to get a life. Frankly I doubt most of the people doing most of the complaining ever actually placed a real order anyway...

I, for one, have been waiting two months since I placed my order and was highly anticipating a shipping date today in order to receive my g5 by the time school starts. That may seem 'trivial' to you, but I am obligated to ship off my tibook this afternoon as it was sold on eBay...I'm not the only one I know that will be without a computer for a while should the 9/26 date be true. While I anticipate receiving mine much sooner, what gives you the right, Lancetx, to criticize those who are pissed that Apple had a delivery date set up until 1 hour before that day? They, we, have done nothing of fault, and we are rightly pissed off.

Ok been delayed also to the 9/26 ( from 9/2) but reading all others post i wonder if that 9/26 is only for those with built to order options ( wich normally takes longer than standard config to ship )

anyone that got delayed can confirm that he ordered built to order option....

thx

I have a shipping date of Oct 9th, so I'm obvioulsy unaffected by this but I have to say this is really poor customer service on apples part.

For a company thats trying so desperately to drum up business with slick looking designs masking unbelievable technology, they sure are lacking in the no-brainer depts.

If I had a 8/29 date and it had changed, I would cancel my order for sure... and I'm a longtime mac user. bastards.

Oh yeah....I didn't even think of the built to order thing. I did that, too. Still, I plunked down over three grand, and I'd like to have this machine. And yes....I figured it would be September, but I thought that maybe...just maybe...I would get it when Apple said it would come. But as long as I get it in 2003 so I can write it off, I'll be happy.
