you cancelled already? dude, i'm pissed, but at least ride it out for a day!

He cancelled day's ago, let's not start this thread again. Yes we all know you cancelled Ne0tronik. Steve will be crying all the way to the bank.

Anyway, I think this was just a system hick-up and everything will work out. (maybe)

lol, yeah, i work at abercrombie, and whenever i hear someone complain and be like 'well, you just lost a sale!', i'm just like yeah, and i'm sure that our corporate accountants won't sleep at night over it.

anyways, the rollercoaster had me at 8/29, then to 9/26, back to 8/29, and now i'm back to 9/26... ahhhhhhh.

I don't know if this could be something, but the reps from apple did say their order software was being upgraded and was acting up on them...Could this be a software glitch? We'll have to see...

Shop around...

I've picked the 1.6 at SOHO (NYC) store today without much hassle.

When they'd announced the G5, my instinct told me not to pre-order since
I'd lost complete faith in Apple online store after having so much trouble
with them in the past with my PB. And it paid off.

People who's date has been pushed back, shop around, see if you can
GRAB one on the spot and cancel the Apple store order. Store managers
usually put a unit or two aside unreserved for spot sales.

Regarding the performance, I've played around with iMovie, 70mb PS
file, iTunes, 720x480 QT movie and IE running all at the same time.
It didn't chock but Photoshop seemed to be the most affected
by the others for it was the only app that stuttered at times.

Overall, it doesn't seem that snappier than my MDD 1.25 dual.
It's too early to tell but I might return this for the 2.0 dual.

BTW, it is GIGANTIC compared to the G4.

Dualie Went from Aug 29 to Sept 26

Dualie went from Friday ship to end of September, but it happened just after midnight. __Hmm, wonder if it is just an error or because I asked for the 20 inch monitor to be shipped with it.___ ***Just read back a few pages and saw that this is a common occurrence tonight.***

Rumors were that Apple Brick and Mortar Store Orders (first at mine) would ship first. Ugggggghhhh! And to think, I ordered on June 26th.

Waiting for the inevitable rumors

Satire warning:
1) Listening to Macnn forum demands, Apple made 1 Dualie and then decided to produce a Rev. B motherboard so that no one will have an excuse to not buy a G5.

2) Delay allows Panther to be included on every dualie, so shut up

3) 30 inch monitors as a prize in every box and heck, it takes time to make a new cardboard box worthy of Apple

4) Jobs's Buddhist master decides that Apple users have become too smug and forces Steve to p.o. Apple's pro customers while making Windows users feel good in the most cost efficient manner

5) Apple, following US-UK lead, admits to sexing up Dualies. In fact, 2ghz G5s never existed and were really filled with A.M.D. chips (Apple's Mass Deception or Apple's Moving Date or even Apple Misses Date).

6) What else should a company announce the day of a 52 week stock high

7) Xcode inspired by X-Files runs amuck on Apple servers and transports all Dualies 4 weeks into the future

8) Apple spent too much time on fit and not enough on finish...ing

.... I leave the rest as an exercise for you, the student.

damn! I had 8/29, now it's 9/26!!!!

Well, if the're gonna make me wait another month, I'm going to tweak the order so it ships AFTER Panther, so at least I won't be paying for a Panther upgrade!!!!!

damn!!!!

Hi, I'm a bit new here, but I'm also eagerly awaiting my G5 dual. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents here...

Apple has achieved its target shipping dates for the first two models. The 1.8 is basically just a dual without the second processor; I don't see how there could be a one month discrepency in the shipping dates. Perhaps a week, but a month? That would just be unexpected and ridiculous. This has to be a glitch...

If not I don't know what I'll do. Cry.

btw my order still says 9/2/03 and I orded 6/30 from ADC...

after giving this a lot of thought, i'm still inclined to think that those of us who had orders designated to ship on or before 8/29 WILL have them shipped out tomorrow. i think that it would make sense that apple would take all the other orders that were supposed ship at other times, then give them new dates, and didn't fix the date for those that are shipping tomorrow, just because at some point the status will just be 'shipping' anyways.

this could be something... or it could just be one desperate man's wishful thinking. most likely the latter.

edit: as of 11:05 PM PST, my order is back to showing shipping on or before 8/29...

Amazing. It is now almost midnight on the west coast and I'm BACK to 8/29 for the third time.

That means:

8/29 » 9/26 » 8/29 » 9/26 » 8/29

... in the space of 4-5 hours.

They'd better give us free Panther- AT LEAST!

I ordered it minutes after the keynote, promised 8/29 ship date.

Order Status as of 11:58 PM PDT, 08/28/2003

Order Date
06/23/2003
01:28 PM PST

POWER MAC G5 2.0GHZDP CTO

EST SHIP: On or before 09/26/2003

I wrote this letter to orders@apple.com:
Hi!

Please tell me that the 8/29 ship date on my G5 is being honored.

If not, please tell me what major steps you can take to keep my order. October is only 3 months from when people expect a bug-free Revision B for significantly less, so the month delay pretty much destroys the value proposition.

Peace,
Genie

"We'd be happy to cancel your order and take another when you feel you're ready to place one."

Seriously, while their handling of this may be problematic, it's not as though most of us didn't fully recognize the possibility of delivery problems at the time of the initial order.

Well at least you people in the US get a ship date! All we get in the UK is a "being built" icon. If we want any more info we have to call up :-(

As for the slippages, I'm not really surprised. The only thing that annoys me slightly is that soon all PMacs will come with Panther as standard and I will have to pay for the privilege. Anyone here who already has their PM confirm that there's an upgrade voucher inside? If not, the temptation is to cancel (as much as I don't want to) and stick with my iMac 'til Christmas.

The good thing about a long delay is that maybe yours will come with it!

Or maybe it will be more likely to qualify for a discounted or free Panther offer.

Hey there, Mark.

You seem to have migrated over here as well. Welcome to the after hours party for the dorks.

Ever feel like grabbing a golf ball retriever and pretending its a light saber?

heh heh, yeah me too...

I'm working on uh, well, I'm sorta working. Its ummm, a project I've been putting together for quite some time. You see, it requires me to spend a lot of effort putting together various important things.

Ahh hell, I'm working on a hangover and a late morning at work is what I'm working on. Hmmm... you know, I feel a lot better about it now that I've just come out and said it!

Ha ha! You 9/26ers! I've got 8/29! That's right, MINE is shipping TOMORROW!

I am SO damn cool.

no gloating....

...The karma dogs are out and if you gloat that your screen still has a 8/29 date...well...there is still the possibility that the date will change...and all we can do is laugh at you

Might as well wait till january when they will bump the system up a bit.

I still havent gotten a Email and If apple reads this send my order instead of the Email. ;) cause you dont wanna see me at your palo alto offices. I only live like 30 min away steve.

That's true, but I had the same experience with my iMac (1st gen FP), although I was glad I upgraded to 10.2.

I'm prepared to wait until mid-late Sept I think. But if there's another slip after that, well... I may just cancel and go on the 3 month waiting list for the newly announce Powerbooks. Then I'll have to cancel that and go on the waiting list for the newly announced G5 powerbooks...

Ugh! I can see myself never buying another Apple computer again at this rate :)
