Can't wait for the 27" inchs which I'm seriously considering for my new Mac Pro and have the dual mini display ports in the back is a added plus.:D:D:D

I would just get the sleek bose sound system. Either companion 3 (Which is really good) or C5 ( Movie theater IMAX sound quality)

24" displays are good buys now for $799 but they should have been priced that low from the beginning.

Wow, add some overpriced Bose in there. Trying to set a record for how much money you can waste on overpriced electronics?

The Dell prices are currently on sale, the 2410 wasnt $499 yesterday.

Yes it is $300 cheaper.

The 27" is $999 from Apple.

You still CAN NOT argue that the convenience factor of connections available on the Dell are better for EVERYONE.

You argue that the connections on the Dell are better for EVERYONE. That simply is not the case. Were the Dell connection options better for me? Yes, could they be better for you? Yes.

To OTHERS the magsafe connector, LED backlit display, speakers and iSight camera might be well worth the $300.

For me, those "7 connection" features on the 27" would be well worth trading in for the benefits the Apple display gives.

I cant argue anything about the Apple 30", they are discontinuing it and rightfully so. It isnt a BAD monitor by any means, but the competition is better IMHO.

I would not, and did not buy Apple 24" monitors, however I think two 27" Apple monitors would be the best option for my needs.

Im done, you seem to be missing the point, you are declaring one monitor better than the other FOR EVERYONE because of your specific situation. The logic, or lack there of is astounding.

Ok, the 24" is only $200 cheaper. Totally changes the picture.

So, the 27" Dell is the same price and has more inputs.

The speakers probably suck anyways, and a separate power adapter and webcam are a lot less than the remaing >$200. Plus, many of them would be used with a Macbook, which already has an iSight.

The 27's, aside from manufacturer, are oddballs. They can't be driven from VGA like a 24", but yet they aren't the 30's. That Ultrasharp does look nice though.

When I go back to school, I'll be back to a single 13" . Thank god for Expose, it's not as good as actually having enough screen real estate, but it sure does dull the pain of a tiny monitor.

So, in all seriousness... because I don't want to jump to conclusions....

Besides games, internet, email, etc.... what do you use the monitor for? I mean - if all you do with it is fun and games, then absolutely the cheapest monitor you can get that shows blood and gore garishly is the best monitor for you. If you actually use a monitor for work - that involves accurate colours, then you would realize that the Dell monitor may not be the deal you think they are. Maybe not the Apples either.

But it's not about the monitors, it's about your attitude that you know what's best for everybody. I'm hoping that you don't go into politics... If you were Canadian I'd peg you for a Tory. :)

When I was a kid, I thought I had it all figured out too. :p

Wasn't this thread about how to get sound to come out of both monitors on a dual 24" Cinema Display? I was wondering myself but got too caught up in the bickering that was going on. Quite funny.

This was an amusing flame-war that I set off.

Still no real answer. I think I will just try the Apple store. Maybe they will hook two monitors up and we can see what the options are.

That's probably the right decision. :) I'm guessing they behave the same as connecting two sets of USB speakers - meaning you can customize the left and right channels of each set independently via Audio MIDI Setup.

My point is the Apple monitors are well suited for none.

Dell isn't the be-all end-all, nor is HP or Lenovo.

There are highly specialized users, like those doing professional level graphics or video work who need something a lot more accurate, and a lot more expensive, but that's not going to be an Apple monitor either.

Hope you enjoy that few-hundred-dollar Apple logo on the front when you can't connect your monitor to a computer (Mac or PC) because it doesn't have the right port.

I sure do enjoy that "Apple" logo. It looks fantastic on my desk with all of my "modern" equipment. Maybe you should get a Dell monitor that has been "steampunk" modified, as you seem to be stuck in the 18th centruy. Asthetics and quality are pretty important to me, I have not seen another monitor that comes close to the image quality of the Cinema Display that looks good. The one thing that I am a little bit dissapointed with is the loudness of the speakers, otherwise, it is perfect.....for me, probably not you.

The LCD's were great back in the 18th century. The GPS was amazing too.

Let me just check... uh, huh, oooofff,, hang on - a - sec.....[thump] Oww! just a moment ,,, [brushes dust off his knees....]

Yep - just confirmed it. My Apple display is connected to my computer. I mean, I know I could have likely assumed it was - the big clue being that it is displaying the letters that I am typing.... but - well, you know that thing about the word "assume", and so I wanted to double-check..... Hang on a sec.... you do know about the other meaning of "assume"? Right?

Try connecting it to a computer without mdp. Let me know if the connector fits in the other sized hole. I'd be interested to know.

My Apple Display connects directly to my Mac Pro, without adapters or other fangled things. No MDP either. Hmmm.

I don't care about other computers, and other connectors....

This is not about whether you are technically correct or not... it's about your sweeping judgements. That what is not good for you is not good for anybody. I actually think you have some good points .... but then you imply I'm a fool because I actually found a solution that works for me.

May I suggest, humbly, that you try being a little less sure of yourself and your judgements of what is best for humanity?

I am sure that having more ports and flexibility is better. The news ones are mdp only, which is why they are peices of junk. There are a lot of computers out there that don't have mdp. It's even worse when you are talking about a 24" display, where it should be able to be driven off of VGA, DVI, or dp.
