When do u suppose they will get better video cards in the laptops?

Hard to tell. But they'll certainly take the chance they got when adding PCI Express to the PowerBooks. So I'd guess we'll see a good graphics card with the first Intel PowerBooks, but I don't think it'll be the best one out there, and I also think it'll be 6 months until they announce it. Also, there's a need for much more optimized drivers...

Honestly, I dont care that much. I use my laptops mostly for presentations, email and writing. I need the batt time on long flights and at boring conferences way back in the auditorium ;)

I am scared, as this might be the first time that an Apple portable will actually match the previous and some of the recent generations of iPod in battery life. ;) :D

That is a battery!!!!

Actually, that Acer has six hours of battery because it uses an impressive battery...
Something like 2x the power of the battery of the iBook...
87w and 7800mAH!!!
The PowerBook 17" uses a 65w power adapter..
And the iBook a 45w power adapter..

The Dual Core Yonah, will be faster, but looks like it will be power-hungry..
Anyway, there is a better version of Yonah, not at 2Ghz, anyway, i will be satisfied with a low-voltage dual core 1,66Ghz Yonah, wich will be like a G4 in power consumption..

It also could be the ATI X1600 512Mb what needs so much power..
It's obvious that this isn't a light notebook, looks like more a desktop replacement but with a 15,3" screen instead of 17"..

one word... wow

if apple can grab these specs and cram em in a pb i will be very happy, i may even ebay my current model and grab one if the price is right!!

Yes please!

I hope this is an indicator of what we can see from Apple.

The battery life is good - my iBook got 4 hours, and powerbook - 3 hours ( oh, these times were with the screen brightness all the way down ).

I would like to know the price of that Acer though...

How can the Yonah be power hungry, when Steve got up on stage and shower Intel processor vs power performance against PPC...? Maybe they were lying......

computer prices are dropping all the time. some people here will remember when Macs cost $4000+. it may not be this MacWorld, but the prices will certainly drop. if not, Apple will just fade away.

Apple's star is already starting to fade, sadly. Over priced stock, iPod in-your-face, used BMW status (over priced for outdated tech)....

I expect a great deal from the Intel switch; Specs closely related to the Acer notebook profiled. If Apple releases anything sub-par this month (which they will release something) they will effectively blow the biggest shot they have or had.

OSX may be wonderful, I don't know... I don't use it (yet) but I do know demand isn't as high as current users swould like to think. Markets are very fickle, computer users aren't as "dumb" or "average" as some would like to think. We on the pc side are waiting. If something wonderful doesn't arrive most will wait for Vista's release.

It would certainly bring on a new era when laptops are truly portable (i.e. you dont need a dolly) with decent battery time (i.e. you can throw away that 2 mile extension cord).
laptops should be small, light with loooong batt time. IMHO if you need power get a desktop.
A powerful laptop will always be an compromise like e.g. an amphibious car; not very good car and not very good boat.

This is a bit of a newb question but here goes anyway...

Why is it considered expensive when apple are buying processors for between 20c and 60c each? How can 40c make such a difference to the end cost of the laptop? There are other parts involved but surely when you're talking a matter of cents for processors it shouldn't make that much difference to the end price. Even looking at margins it's only $4000 for every 10,000 units shipped!

And you will be waiting longer than Mac users ;)

I'd like to see the price for that overloaded laptop.

Jobs wouldn't lie to us. Remeber how loaded that acer is. Those chips etc are power hungry too.

Give me those specs, iSight, built in wireless internet (like Verizon but with Airport and bluetooth as well), fast os switching, in a dark aluminum powerbook package and i will buy that same day. ONE MORE WEEK.

EDIT: Also give me a bigger hard drive and better speakers than my current pb.

I was under the impression that CPU, GPU, HD and screen stood for more or less the total power consumption.

true but your a forgetting memory chips. such as ram and video memory.

Yes, he would. After all, he's only human and they want to sell those things. Unlike at Microsoft, some people at Apple also would like to make this world a better place, but it's mostly the selling thing. ;)

Then you have a machine that is exclusive to the CDMA market. I doubt that Apple would do that mistake.

You divided by 1000 one too many times. The processors cost between $200-600 each when purchased in lots of 1,000.
