... Japan could use $1600.

Thanks, now I feel like Hitler for paying $1 at Chipotle for gaucamole instead of donating it.

In all seriousness, do donate to the relief efforts, but don't feel like you need to donate all your expendable income...

Yes, noticeably.

2.2 to 2.3 speed difference NOT noticeable.

My 2.16GHz Macbook Pro with SSD feels much faster than my 2.66GHz Mac Pro with 7200RPM hard drive. And that is a desktop hard drive, which is much faster than you'd find in a laptop. Once you go to a SSD you will never go back. As I mentioned, the 2.3GHz Macbook Pro only gets a 3.3% higher Geekbench score than the 2.2GHz one, which means in most real world applications the difference is even less (what would you expect out of a 4.5% clock speed increase?). You're very unlikely to be able to tell the difference.

HA.

actually, you're safe: paying for guac at Chipotle is just below 'crime against humanity'; ... it's more than $1, i think! its like $2, no?! ($2.01 = atrocity)

anyways, i know. it's tricky. if you start to think about it, really you should be living in a hut off bread and water, if that.

it was food for thought, but perhaps unfair.

however, if someone really did buy $1600 RAM solely to fulfill some crazy psychological need, then, NO, i dont care, that IS condemnable! its like DOUBLE-GUAC!

I just ordered a 17", 2.2, 8gb ram, 512ssd, in my opinion that's the best configuration.

You will not notice a difference in speed going from 2.2 to 2.3 unless you're rendering large files, but you're going to get more heat, more fan noise and less battery life.

That's specifically why I didn't go with the 2.3.

Plus it's $250.00 ... more what?

good lord how much did that run you? i just don get the point of having that size of SSD when you could just have an external or something. i mean you could get a 1 TB flash drive for like 100 bucks... goes everywhere with you.. so much cheaper.. all you need on the SSD is the OS and the most commonly used apps

I think you mean External Hard Drive right? I don't think they have 1TB Flash Drives yet and even if they do, they'll be WAY more expensive than that.

But in all reality, I had the choice between the 2.3 AG 15" and the 2.2 Glossy AG 15" and I took the latter. Why? I really wanted the AG but I wasn't willing to pay $250 for the 2.3 ghz processor, which I would never, ever use. Also, I hope you know that avg. CPU usage for the 2.2 while running Word and Firefox is averaged around 1%.

Ah, that is a platter based external HDD, not a flash drive. Therefore my confusion, as the term "flash (memory" is used to describe a newer technology in storing data. A USB flash memory thumb drive or an SSD use flash memory, which is not platter based.
But a 1TB drive with flash memory wouldn't go for less than 1000 USD right now.

so are we deciding that item isnt such a good idea? because i thought about buying one i think it would be really handy, i wish they made on just like that for thunderbolt ports =)

No, it's a perfectly fine product, it's just not a flash drive. It's actually a great storage medium. They'll make one for thunderbolt eventually, but that won't really be much better than USB, as the drive can't transfer data a whole lot faster than the USB interface.

i thought the whole point behind TB ports was 10G\s transfer? or are you saying since its not actually flash that the drive itself cannot handle it. im pretty sure thats what you said but im very very new to this more tech stuff i just joined like a week ago and im trying to catch on stuff quick.. this website sold me on getting a SSD!

The port can transfer stuff plenty quick, but since the drive you're looking at is a mechanical hard drive, it physically can't supply speeds that would really benefit from the faster interface. Many mechanical drives don't even take full advantage of FireWire 800. Even if it was a flash drive, it would be slow, as the small flash drives that are sold are made with a different kind of memory than your SSD, and they are far slower than even mechanical drives.

since were on this topic.. i have another thread up about the best external for streaming movies? with money NOT being a factor in the equation (well within about $500) how would you recommend me transferring movies from an external to my macbook? since i have this SSD and my mac is ALWAYS hooked up to my 60in plasma i want to find the best way possible to stream movies or transfer them very quickly to watch them from an eternal source.. should i go time capsule or usb firewire thunderbolt when i comes out? thanks in advance and sorry for derailing thread last question :D

Seems like uve made your decision.

Plainly WAN FACTORY if you ask me.

May i ask , does your 32 GB iphone has its memory filled out? as well as your 64 GB ipad?

I got 32 G iphone but i struggle to fill up the space.

i strtuggle to fill my 16 gig... i have 9 gigs of music.. and i dont really have that many apps, like 50.. but they are all so small. do you game on your phone or something?

EDIT: were you talking to me about WAN FACTORY to me? if so what does that mean?

I for one cannot understand either why you didn't go get the optibay and installed 2 vertex 3, 512gb ssd drives, and buck out on the 16 gb of ram. That would be one killer portable desktop and literally maxed out.
2 * 512 gb is more than 750 ;) and you could just put the 750 you have in the external casing and use It as storage for all the crap like movies and music.

I had the 2.3ghz model. Returned it and ordered the 2.2ghz with 512SSD. OP, you should definitely get the 2.3ghz model with the 512 ssd. I for sure feel a speed drop with the 2.2ghz model but the ssd makes it fly in other ways. Don't stop until you have the mammer jammer.

... so this is why you told me to get the 2.0!

... so that your 2.3 would mean that much more!

... i get your little game now! ;)

... what if Apple offered ONLY YOU a custom built 2.30001GHz???!!!

... and all you had to do to get it was drown one tiny, little puppy?

seriously though, this post put a little sadness in my sadh:(le.

i hope you find what you're looking for.

... and that you'll find it in your heart to spare the puppy.

He could overclock it.

You don't need the 2.3 GHZ for your personal advantages.
You only want it for showing off (impressing girls?).
In the end nobody cares about the speed of your MacBook Pro.

I think this is a joke
