Either this guy is pulling our chains, or he's nutz. :D

BTW, dual 512GB SSD's, in RAID , or it didn't happen ;)

I can see this upgrade as an impulse or best case, a business machine that is nearly fully utilized will actually get the value paid for with this upgrade. As for the OP, I think he's lost perspective.

You sound like you have issues with technology that you should resolve before making any significant purchases. You may want to reexamine the role of technology in your life. If simply knowing that something out there better exists adversely affects your experience you will likely never be happy in this world. You'd be hard pressed to notice a difference between 2.3GHz and 2.2Ghz, even with a stop watch on hand. The Geekbench score for the 2.3GHz model is 3.3% higher than for the 2.2GHz model. That means that real world applications will see even less improvement.

I gotta second this. If you have to return a purchase over something that miniscule, I can only imagine what's going to happen each time there's some small hardware switch.

But the peace of mind knowing your maxed out and the right to tell your friends that and impress girls? Priceless.

Talk about financially irresponsible...That has to be one of the lamest excuses I have ever heard to spend $3000+. If your sole purpose in spending extravagant amounts of money is to brag to your friends and attempt to impress girls, you seriously need to re-prioritize your life and spending habits. The fact that you feel the need to have the biggest and best technology (and get anxiety over not having it) is another issue entirely...

if you act like this or say just about anything in this thread in front of any worth while girls you would not be able to compensate for your toolishness with any sized processor, ram, hd car or amount of money.

512 is not comfortably large enough to install ableton live with all the sounds, logic with all the sounds, final cut with everything, photoshop, illustrator, years of music and music videos, world of Warcraft, plus a whole other side of Windows 7 via Boot Camp running FL Studio, Pro Tools, and Reason. On top of that there would be vsts for both sides of the fence that are tens and hundreds of gigs. There even more in the form of sound banks which I will transfer to a newer Thunder hard drive for fast sample access. So yeah, 512 isn't enough. Even 750 is pushing it.

But did you just say 16 Gigs of RAM!!!????

Ouch! I think you've kind of exposed yourself here;)

Been doing audio/video production for the past two decades...and pay my mortgage in the craft these days as well. Anyone in their right mind would NEVER store "All the sounds" from Logic/Ableton or Final Cut's "Everything" on the same drive as their program!!! Come on man...seriously? Scratch and "element" drive (= "All the sounds") should be separate from your app for optimum performance, especially with a laptop as we're still limited with the 2.5" size. The "Everything" from FCP? Are you talking the STP content? The video "extras"? Totally unnecessary to have on your main HDD if you're actually using FCP. Same goes for Logic...Loops and SFX can live on an external. Main apps are just a gig or two to install ALL of it. (There is some overlap between Logic and FCP).

Also, why in the world store years of music and videos on your internal drive? Honestly...at Costco, you can sometimes grab a 1.5TB external 2.5" HDD for a hundred bucks! This should store what you're looking to (assuming, as you say...the 750 gig is "pushing it!")

PhotoShop and Illustrator. Same as FCP/Logic. You should be able to install ALL of your Pro Apps...FCP, Logic, PS and Ill with the essential elements using much less than 50 gigs!!! With a 512 SSD, you'll be still rockin' 450 gigs+ in extra "super Speed" storage!!! Hands down, and GUARANTEED a MUCH Bigger improvement speed wise to your system than the .1 ghz processor upgrade. MUCH bigger...>an SSD, regardless of your system, is the Number One performance upgrade you can make today. Bar None!

OP...if....but only IF you are Truly doing professional video/music editing on your system....you must push CANCEL on that order immediately!!! Upgrade to the 512 SSD, 16gigs of RAM....or you've got a system SERIOUSLY lacking for video and sound production;) (Kidding, of course....my point is, the SSD is a better option for you than that proc bump....if you are on a budget, as most of us are....something to consider. Even a 128/256 (IMO...after the 256, you pass the law of diminishing returns....IE...you go from about $2/gig to $3/gig for the 512 in MOST cases).

If, on the other hand...you are TRULY buying this to impress friends and ladies???? EPIC FAIL Brotha!!!!

Good Luck;)

I can't believe you have an 8GB machine with only 720GB drive. Everyone who is pushing the envelop has dual 512GB SSD's (RAID 0), and 16GB of RAM on their new Macbooks.

Or, you could be happy to be second best, and be 3000 dollars richer.

Seems like uve made your decision.

Plainly WAN FACTORY if you ask me.

May i ask , does your 32 GB iphone has its memory filled out? as well as your 64 GB ipad?

I got 32 G iphone but i struggle to fill up the space.

I get close. I shoot iPhone 4 HD music videos and you'd be suprized that nobody can tell the difference between video footage that has been shot on an iPhone 4 vs a pro-sumer HD camera. I'm trying to shoot a lot of low budget and independent videos off the cuff and make one almost everyday to saturate YouTube ala Lil B style with some friends.

(just made the funniest intro yesterday and all the takes and video files go back and forth on that 32gb)

I for one cannot understand either why you didn't go get the optibay and installed 2 vertex 3, 512gb ssd drives, and buck out on the 16 gb of ram. That would be one killer portable desktop and literally maxed out.
2 * 512 gb is more than 750 ;) and you could just put the 750 you have in the external casing and use It as storage for all the crap like movies and music.

Arrrrghh! That sounds so do-able that it's giving me anxiety!!! How easy is it to replace the optical with a 2nd SSD!!!??? Aaaaahhhhhhh!!!

I had the 2.3ghz model. Returned it and ordered the 2.2ghz with 512SSD. OP, you should definitely get the 2.3ghz model with the 512 ssd. I for sure feel a speed drop with the 2.2ghz model but the ssd makes it fly in other ways. Don't stop until you have the mammer jammer.

That makes me feel sooo good. :)

(I can always get an SSD upgrade but I can NEVER go to 2.3 after that 14 days.)

Everyone who says that you can't impress girls with that doesn't know how to spin it. You gotta have sales skills. How do you think I got all this money? With sales skills. A real salesman can spin ANYTHING! You guys need to step y'all game up.

Something like: "look gurl, this isn't just some laptop, Okk?? This is a 2011 current year, maxed out MacBook pro supercomputer desktop replacement. This laptop right here? Is more powerful than your dads desktop and more powerful than anything you had in your house. EVER. You can't even get this at the store, you had to special order because its so powerful okkkayy?? There is no higher processor. If you walk into an Apple store right now, today, and say, give me the maxed out more powerfulest laptop ever made.... This laptop right here is what it would be."

Then you just nonchalantly walk away like you're too cool for the situation and they will just stand there impressed, wanting to know more about your mysteriousness...

Well there's vsts like omnisphere that I like to load on the OS drive out of conveniency of having all my sounds and not needing an external cable ruining the mobility experience.

SO there are vsts of three types if storage. There are synths which are very small files and everything is created mathematically, then there soundbanks of samples such as symphonic choirs or other orchestral banks that are huge and filled with just gigs of sample file dumps. Then the third is the combination of both like omnisphere. The hybrid ones and of course the low footprint synths I like to have with me at all times on my main drive. I know I can compose whole songs just with that and I know they will run and load perfectly fast since I dint have to wait for an external to warm up or whatever bottleneck may happen. Now with thunder that might change. As for the file dumps, yes those go on scratch disks.

The point of the story is that even while putting all the dumps externally, I am still dealing with those hybrid VSTs and other effects that I want with me at all times conveniently.

So even after clearing that up, these installations add up bro... The DAWs I use have all the sounds loaded too on the HD not a scratch drive so when you add up the space it's pushing it: Ableton, Logic, Pro Tools, FL Studio, Reason+refills, Final Cut+After Effects, Wow, Dragon age, iTunes library of music videos, Win 7, Omnisphere, Nexus 2+expansions, Komplete 5, +20 synthesizers....

That all starts to add up.

You have met everybody then?
Wait till the right person comes along, one with trained eyes and that person will point it out to you. But for your needs, the iPhone seems to be enough.

Doubtful. But superlatives are very commo'n thes'e d'aisies.

Use MRoogle and another search engine of your choice and search for "Optibay" or look at www.mcetech.com.

And this really works? I don't want to meet these women or girls I guess, if they are impressed by such play.

Funny you have so much software and can still manage to play games.

OP must be a kid, makes sense now
But how did it mutate?

You should have gotten the SSD. It would have given you a much larger speed boost than the processor upgrade. Hell, put two of 'em in there. That'll really impress the chicks.

Ok troll it is...
I've never read something so ridiculous

You guys should be a bit more respectful of other people's differences. We are all different and come from different cultures and backgrounds. Let's not judge each other but rather respect each other and celebrate and embrace our differences as we are all brothers and sisters of the human race.

Hey good for you if that makes you happy but if you come here acting like a big shot with mad sales skillz talking about your laptop that's gonna impress the ladies, you gotta be able to take the heat as quite a few people are gonna find it laughable ;)

You should be glad for me, and ask me how I did it, not let your jealousy mutate into misguided hatred.

Respect is earned.

Judgment is necessary for survival.

The posts here come across as someone who may be a spoiled brat with no clue or respect for money and very little else.

That is hard to embrace.

that conclusion is short sighted, archaic, and based on a fear-based life outlook. There are too many destructive downsides for those on the other end of the judgement. Its incompatible with human nature and the pursuit of happiness. There is no place to discuss the details here but in short, you should stop thinking less like hitler and Stalin and think more like Abraham Lincoln and inwould like to welcome you to the modern age of enlightenment.

Why do you assume that the only reason people criticize you is because they are jealous? That's odd...
