Buying a 512 GB SSD from Apple is a complete waste of money. At $1100, it is the equivalent of buying a 13" MacBook Pro (plus $99). If you want the speed a SSD has to offer, I would buy one of those SSD/HDD hybrids like the Momentus XT.

I agree. I ended up going with the WD Scorpio Black 750/7200 only because the Momentus is 500GB max. I will of course continue monitoring the SSD situation and in six months who knows what I'll put in there...

Both the computer and the drive are in transit to be delivered. This is intense. Those two components will be a very solid, powerful core to build upon.

Some of you might have seen my unboxing video for the recently purchased 17" 2011. At one point in the same said Unboxing video I say a passing comment that if you blinked you'd miss it but it has since then adversely affected my ownership experience.

I couldn't stop thinking that I only had the 2.2 and that there was a 2.3 out there. I couldn't handle it. I kept feeling like I couldn't unleash full-OCD mode until this was complete. I can max out everything but I can never go back and switch processors.

You need some serious help.

I suggest you calculate what is the difference in price between the 2.3 GHz and the 2.2 GHz, donate the difference to the earth quake victims in Japan, and buy the 2.2 GHz again. Glue some receipt for the donation with superglue to the bottom of the MacBook so you can't remove it. Then anytime you feel bad at the MacBook, you turn it around and see that there is a good reason for having the slower model, and that it is worth it.

In the long term, this will help _you_ more than some people in Japan.

I do have to agree there. I'm a college student and I don't know a single girl who actually knows much about her computer, or is impressed by a computer. Sorry bro

There will be girls who could be impressed by a computer, but that kind of girl would be seriously turned off by the guy's OCD. As would be most other girls as well, actually.

I can still donate money to The Japanese people in need and still get the 2.3 with 8mb cache. It doesn't have to be one or the other. I love Japan.

Size inferiority complexes aside, the 2.3 has 8Mb of L3 cache instead of only 6Mb in the 2.2. What exactly are the advantages of having more L3 cache?

I have to admit, I'm really jealous of you Bobby Corwen. Everybody wants a 2.3, 8GB, hi-res. I bought a stock configured 15" 2.2 GHz quad core because I was tired of waiting for a CTO, as I was without a computer for 6 weeks. It was downright becoming depressing for me.

I am regretting my purchase heavily, because I was so used to the hi-res screen.

I hope to upgrade to anti-glare by selling this one and purchased your exact configuration in the 15" model.

Enjoy your machine.

... Japan could use $1600.

i know!

i got 2.2ghz 17" MBP, BTO 500GB 7200rpm offering, high res screen

8g crucial ram

owc ssd - as i am not really happy with the sata 3 fiasco atm

like many others have stated why not ssd, where you would really see a maxed out system

ps - which girls are you trying to impress
like this.....>>>>>>>>

Bobby Corwen is not a real person guys, this thread is an ingenious troll.

First of all I am real, I have a whole Unboxing video that shows me talking and joking around.

Second I think a lot of you don't know what a troll is. A troll is someone who goes on message boards and baits people by talking about controversial topics like religion or politics or whatever and they make up fake/ridiculous scenarios to spark controversy and reactions from people.

Me? I am just being myself and making conversation about topics that interest us.

Having dry humor in my posts is not considered trolling. Everyone is on the same page here and understand the characterizations I convey because they reflect us. The things I say aren't meant to trick you, but to make you relate to my human condition.

Saying someone trolls incessantly is also an offense for our mods to deal with.

But remember from now on: I am not trolling. I only get a lot of views because I have a unique world view and just being myself is different/interesting/funny to a lot of people who are not from California so different people react to me in different ways but in the end we can all respect each others differences. I am a realist not a troll.

But to those who disagree with my world view, I could see how anything I say that is not uptight and serious could be chosen to be classified as trolling but I assure it's just differences in culture and beliefs.

I plan to have the max everything: MBP, iPhone, and iPad. So I didn't want the 2.2 to be a weak link of imperfection I couldn't escape from. 2011, 17 inch, 8 gigs RAM, 7200rpm 750gb hard drive (can't live with 500ish of space), 32 GB iPhone, 64GB 3G iPad.

iPad 3G 64GB..... You know there is an iPad 2 that you have to go buy now right?

/Trolling

Of course I meant ipad2 just didn't specify. (didnt say iPhone 4 either just iPhone) the latest version is obviously assumed considering the context.

And for the previous poster when the latest versions come out I will sell my current and upgrade To the latest model of the year, EVERY year, for a couple hundred a year.
