My title says it all. I am literally dumbfounded by all the hatred for Apple I see on here. What’s most mind numbing to me is where the hate is being posted. I would understand if I were on a Android forum or something, but of all the places I’m on macrumors. It’s truly saddening to me, and I’m not a fanboy, but rather just a fan and longtime user of Apple products. With all the visceral energy here spewing of hatred you would think that Apple had kidnapped your first born. I just don’t get it. We all pretty much know what’s coming now days with most every new product release since the rumors are more or less spot on. As far as the iPhone X goes, did any of us really expect Apple not to continue down the path they have always taken? Their path as I see it has always been one of doing things in such a way that their users adapt and end up loving their products. I could be off on this, but I suspect many will fall in love with the iPhone X. I will admit that the two things I’m scratching my head over are the asymmetrical screen with the notch at the top and of course the reliability of Face ID. But I suspect in time just as with all Apple products that they will nail it and all the apprehension will fade into the background. Thoughts?

It is popular. I look at all the hate Microsoft has gotten, all the hate other popular products have gotten... it is popular and draws attention to those who "hate it" - this being the real reason why people do it I think.

Don't let it bother you. Find out what works for you best, use others opinions to guide but be smart about identifying complaints vs people who have actually used the product and do a fair review.

I've used both Android and Apple extensively. I've used a Mac laptop and a $6000 Dell laptop. I have come to my own conclusions as to what I think is better and what I like.

Apple usually does things fairly well but as with everything that comes out for the first time - there is a perfecting period.

Then instead of all the negative energy why not just divert that into switching over to Samsung? You know as well as I do that Apple could care less what you or I think. All they care about is our response with our wallets. That is the only thing that is ever going to impact them and maybe cause the change so many would apparently like to see.

dude they launched an iphone 8 which is basically teh same design theyve had for 3 straight years.

simply put: they are getting lazy and only concerned about maximizing profit by reducing manufacturing costs.

Look at what samsung has done with oled and design in that same time frame.

next year what happens when the s9 or note9 becomes the first phone with fingerprint reader under the screen. And then when the iphone 10s comes out, apple will be too proud to admit a mistake and still stick that awful notch and faceid into customer's laps.

basically if you're unhappy with face id, design, price, you're told to piss off from apple for another 2 years.

I feel dumbfounded that you think people are hating on Apple, people are just expressing their opinion on Apple new X model.

This, Samsung has introduced the curved edge, then edge to edge display and Apple since Steve Jobs passed hasn't been innovative since with the iPhones, it seems as of late Samsung has been more innovative with their features and hardware, I'm just not a fan of the Android OS hence why I am going to stick with apple, I like how fluid things run and how software just works, but looking at the X, it looks like a Samsung phone of 2-3 years ago. People can't handle criticism hence threads like these are made.

I have zero issues with constructive criticism.

Lastly calling it face id... come on now, it's not really a face id if you have to have your eyes open, you can literally call it Samsung Iris because it requires your eyes to unlock it lol.

I would have been all over the iPhone X if they made the top area like Samsung instead of having the camera cutting into the screen real estate since I watch a lot of YouTube and Twitch, so that area is gonna bother me, also I am disappointed that they did not add the ProMotion feature that they introduced on the new apple iPads. Lastly they should have kept the TouchID, people will soon realize how much quicker it is to turn on your phone using Touch ID over the FaceID, expect at least a cycle before FaceId becomes "decent" even Samsung didn't eliminate the finger unlock feature because the technology is just not up to par with the faceid/iris scanner.

The usable portion of the iPhone X's screen is smaller than the 8 Plus, for a phone that costs $200 more, the reliability of Face ID is questionable for someone used to gen. 2 Touch ID, and the lack of LTE band 71, which I just learned about today on this forum.

Meanwhile the iPhone 8 Plus has the same 1920x1080 non-native resolution non-OLED screen and large bezels as the previous iPhones.

So I understand why people are upset honestly. While I don't hate Apple because of yesterday's announcement, as a prospective buyer, the current iPhone lineup has too many compromises for a phone I would expect to keep at least two years.

Great post OP. Reading forums is pretty unbearable these days. There is so much negativity it's disgusting. People's expectations and perceptions are truly unreal. Why not appreciate what we have instead of whining about how you think things should be in your gold seal delusional head. If people have so many nitpicking problems then go make your own (perfect) device. Almost every post is b*itching. I don't know about you guys but I have been waiting for a reduced bezel phone from Apple. The day is here so I'm extatic.

No, people are most definitely spewing hatred. Intensely. Sorry you feel dumbfounded by me being dumbfounded.

You’re treating products like they’re people Or victims by saying MR members are quite literally “spewing hatred”

IPhoneaphobia/iBigotry.

People have reservations about a $1000+ Smartphone with serious compromises. What’s the big deal?

It’s our money and our first amendment rights. We’ll do with both as we please, tyvm

Also i dislike the gut reaction, “go to Samsung then or go to Android then” for expressing any dissent whatsoever

What, I cant be critical of a new product, while still being happy with that which I already have?

Yikes

I'm with you. I don't get it. I guess it's human nature to complain. But for myself, I'm absolutely pumped for iPhone X!

I've been waiting forever for Apple to get rid of the wasted space of the huge top and bottom bezels. We now have a beautiful practically all display phone. The new Oled display is going to be beautiful and I love the new gestures. They seem very intuitive.

Knock yourself out! And no, I’m not speaking of products like people. It’s totally possible for people to hate a product. Clearly.

I'm not lol, it happens every year. The people making thread after thread are still the ones in the shipping threads complaining that their mailman hasn't delivered their device yet, though.
LOL. I totally believe this!

It’s about how YOU feel about the product YOU own. External factors (in agreement or disagreement) are irrelevant. If they are THAT relevant, that indicates to me iPhone is more of a status symbol than a tool for YOU.

Thats like being upset not everyone wants to marry your girlfriend. It’s YOUR girlfriend and YOUR life. What difference does it make what other people think, one way or another? Are you that easily swayed by group thought?

Plenty of people are dumbfounded how i continue to jailbreak in light of how many features have been added to iOS over the years and think jailbreak is beyond useless/unstable to the point of detrimental, but I still do and i still see tremendous utility in it and i never get resprings despite piling on the tweaks, and it doesn’t bother me one bit, all the skepticism..

Ever heard of beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

I don't view these posts as hateful. I think people are genuinely disappointed, upset and angry. $1500 for an iPhone, including case, charging device, apple care +, etc. is truthfully obscene. It's not just Apple, it's Samsung also. The only way to stop this corporate greed is to stop buying, period. Keep that 2 year old phone that is still chugging along. If they can't sell their ridiculously overpriced piece of hardware, prices will be lowered.

But, in the meantime, we all have the right to voice our thoughts and feelings on this forum. You want to see true hatred???? Turn on the news.
