He's actually well-connected to many people inside Apple's display supply chain locally and in Asia. This roadmap is what he's been currently told by said suppliers. For the past couple of years he's been leaking, with laser like precision, what displays Apple's unannounced products (iPhone, iPad, Mac, monitors) will be using. As far as I know, he's only been wrong once. So he's earned the benefit of the doubt.
If you say so… that doesn’t seem to be how he frames it in the tweet!

All I care about is whether the 15 pleb edition will get USB-C or not.
The year is 20 022 AD as you search through the rubble to try to find, something anything that has a message, the sweat on your forehead has drawn lines through the dust all over your face, it's been hours since you last had a sip of water, you're about to give up until you find it. A radio. You quickly open the back, it still has its batteries, it could still be working, you turn it on, all you get is radio silence, that doesn't stop you however from trying to find a signal of any survivor of the apocalypse. Then suddenly just for a moment, you heard a voice coming from the radio. There was someone out there still fighting. You turn it up and listen. "Hello? If anyone can hear this message, this is Tim, Tim Cook! We need to push out our latest iPhone! Long live the Lighting!" Then, sounds of blasters come from the radio, followed by droid buzzing. "So this is how it ends, with a thunderous catchprase…"

Sure it will. It just won't get the attention it got now and will be obsolete in quite a short time when front cameras disappear under the display. Still, a great idea - but maybe too little too late.
Except - If this feature becomes super popular with customers and developers get onboard using it...this will delay Apple's plans for under the display (which they haven't figured out how to properly implement yet).

The key to the success of this feature is entirely in the hands of Apple's engineers and 3rd party developers. And that's a big IF

Keeping a 60hz display would not go down well in 2023. If true, not sure why 120hz or AOD should be reserved just for pro users…
Cost and margins. Apple is already sporting to use a last gen SoC on the regular iPhone, and I'd expect that trend to continue, with the regular 15 sporting the A16 instead of an A17. Apple probably has forecasted the effects of inflation, raising cost, moving manufacturing, etc. Switching their hardware strategy is one way to cut cost while maintaining the same margins.

And it's not that anybody else doesn't do it. Android OEMs, especially on the mid-low end, are basically keep re-releasing the same phone from 1 or 2 years ago, with only the difference being the plastic back color and the pre-installed Android version.

Not really. Apple could move the components under the display and remove the cutouts but retain the software features (notices and multitasking-lite) of the dynamic island. If the feature proves popular they could keep it and make it even more flexible since it would not be tied to a specific hardware location anymore. If so, they could also hide it when it would be unwelcome such as watching a movie. I think the overall response has been very positive and it seems like it might be a feature with legs.

Apple wants you to spend premium dollars for the 120mhz. If they put 120mhz in the standard model, it could sabotage the Pro. But then again, it could jack up the standard model closer the to Pro pricing (similar to the mini).

No no no!! Please keep the stupid island exclusive to the Pro line and just give the regular iPhones 90hz refresh rate so that it is not as embarrassing when compared to Android phones and add USB-C. Just those two things would make me happy.

It will still work even when camera disappears under the screen right?

The fact is it allows for better multi tasking. So unless apple comes up with a better multitasking method, this will continue to be used even when there’s no longer any notch or island.

Can we stop calling it the thing that Apple wants us to call it? You’re just playing into their hands, fools, all uv ya.
Give us a new name Forest, we will follow you from now on!!!! Run, run!

So you don’t call it iphone … smart phone made by ?

Shouldn't the DI be gone in iPhone 15 or 16 pro models? Is Apple content on keeping the pill for the future? They should be exploring under-display technology. Yes, it's not there yet (based on Samsung models), but Samsung should be able to make it look much better sooner than later, and Apple should explore as well.
Don’t worry, Tim Cook’s Apple is exploring under display tech, and have plans to release it approximately 1-3 years after Samsung does. And it will be super innovative.

*sigh* Of course it is. The reality distortion field around Dynamic Island has given Apple a reason to not address a problem they can't figure out because now it's a "feature". They've relieved that pressure for at least a handful more years.

I love Dynamic Island so much, that if removing the front camera display removes the feature, I don’t want them to remove the pill even if there was no camera quality loss.
I was about to mock you for claiming to love a feature you haven’t even used yet. But then I thought to google iPhone 14 release date, only to realize it was already out.

Your ridiculous comment aside, my how times have changed from years ago when people would line up at Apple stores to buy a truly one of a kind product.

To today, when I didn’t even realize the latest over-hyped iPhone was already available, with its most advanced feature yet - notifications and button interactions placed on a black background to hide notch 2.0.

man, they are really chugging their own kool aide at Apple.

Coming up with a ridiculous name, dynamic island, for at best a Notification center enhancement to help hide notch 2.0, and then trying to sell it like something amazing.

Dynamic Island.

It’s just some icons and button interactions that they put on a solid black background around the new notch. This is a feature worthy of a gimmicky name that we are already abbreviating as DI?

Are we abbreviating it because deep down we also know it is a really stupid name and we don’t want to keep having to use it?

Or maybe we’re also chugging that apple kool-aid, hand poured by Tim Cook himself.
