The SE doesn't count as the quote is all "iPhone 15 models". There is no 14 SE and there will be no 15 SE. The SE likely won't get the pill anytime soon. It's a special edition throwback to iPhones of old. The only question is if the next one will move to a notch instead of a home button (and what size they'll choose). The SE is still around.
I honestly don’t think that’s happening for a few years yet. There is no way Apple would have went along with the development of the dynamic island for only 1-2 years.Sure it will. It just won't get the attention it got now and will be obsolete in quite a short time when front cameras disappear under the display. Still, a great idea - but maybe too little too late.
It will take off where the Mac "Touch Bar" failed. I don't think this is a one-trick pony feature.
I'm just (busy weekend) getting to setting up my 14 Pro: setup from this morning's iCloud backup and downloading the software update now. While I'm excited at the solution and innovation that is DI, it remains to be seen, for me, how that translates into real-world use. Obviously yI know where to go to share notes for my experience. 😜Dynamic Island is cool. It’s just going to take some time to get used to it.
LOL Everyone whined and whined about how big notches were on all phones. Phone makers tried all sort of thing to make it small or less noticeable. Apple says screws all you whiners we gonna make the blackout bigger and change size all the time and you'll all buy it.
Apple plans to expand the Dynamic Island to all four iPhone 15 models released next year, according to oft-accurate display industry analyst Ross Young. The feature is currently exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

In a tweet, Young said he expects the Dynamic Island to be available on the standard iPhone 15 models next year. However, he still does not expect the standard iPhone 15 models to be equipped with an LTPO display, suggesting that the devices will continue to lack ProMotion support and an always-on display option like Pro models have.
Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped area surrounding the Face ID sensors and front camera on the iPhone 14 Pro models. The feature can display system alerts for things like incoming phone calls and the Face ID authentication prompt, and it will also work with Live Activities in third-party apps when iOS 16.1 is released later this year.
In the past, Young accurately revealed that iPhone 13 Pro models and the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro would feature ProMotion, that the sixth-generation iPad mini would be equipped with an 8.3-inch display, that the latest MacBook Air would have a slightly larger 13.6-inch display, and much more, giving him a very successful track record.

Impressive if you're a middle aged single nerd.

“Legit hole punch”? Go buy Samsung. You’re not “stuck” with anything.I KNEW this would happen the minute the gave the dumb thing a name. Now, instead of possibly getting a legit hole punch, they're gonna stick this blob of crap on the screen for 4-5 more years. Ugh!
Your namesake, Bond would prefer a good camera and proper FaceID tech on his phone rather than what is currently possible with a punch hole camera.I KNEW this would happen the minute the gave the dumb thing a name. It sounds like you need to educate yourself about DI. What it does now and what they plan to use it for in the future.Obviously an unpopular opinion, but:
How are people seriously this excited about a black blank area at the top that can grow to show stuff?
It seems like every other post on MR is about this thing. It can’t be that big a deal.
And it is probably coming to a Mac near you!!! Happy Weekend.I KNEW this would happen the minute the gave the dumb thing a name. Now, instead of possibly getting a legit hole punch, they're gonna stick this blob of crap on the screen for 4-5 more years. Ugh!
A lot of R&D was invested in 3D Touch as well. Not only software but special hardware to make it happen.Too much has been invested into DI for it to be a one-off scenario. Plus, that has never been Apple's style. They prefer, instead, to recoup their R&D and tend to spread these types of innovations across several cycles and platforms. I see this playing out no different than when notch first landed.

Maybe I’m different, but I don’t like any kind of banner/popup notifications when I’m using my phone screen, not even for texts or calls. I find them overly intrusive when I’m trying to use my phone, and even worse, I’ll sometimes accidentally tap them and be unwillingly taken out of my current app. So I have all notifications go straight to Notification Center and only allow visual/haptic alerts on my Watch, where I can look at them (either on my Watch or in Notification Center) and choose to address them when I’m ready.dynamic island's brilliance isn't that it hides the cut outs, its that it actually provides something we actually needed on an iPhone, a form of multitasking where an app can run in a simplified way at the same time we are using a different application as the primary. THAT need will now ALWAYS be there once we have had it. I have to imagine some form of multitasking bar will always remain at the top of the screen even when cut outs are gone and the sole use of the entire screen will be when watching video.
In don’t think that’s “Apple’s projected roadmap,” it’s his own idea of what would “make sense.”Back in May, Ross Young tweeted Apple's projected roadmap with respect to their displays. This should give you an idea
He's actually well-connected to many people inside Apple's display supply chain locally and in Asia. This roadmap is what he's been currently told by said suppliers. For the past couple of years he's been leaking, with laser like precision, what displays Apple's unannounced products (iPhone, iPad, Mac, monitors) will be using. As far as I know, he's only been wrong once. So he's earned the benefit of the doubt. In don’t think that’s “Apple’s projected roadmap,” it’s his own idea of what would “make sense.”
