No, that's just you tapping Dynamic Island which is located directly on the front facing camera.

It’s cute and the animations are clever but it’s still a hole in the screen.
The coolest way I've seen to bridge hardware limitations into useful software features. Well done.

Pretty genius. Took a 5 year old phone screen creation that many users said would have to be on the iPhone XS or 11 and somehow managed to get people excited that when they touch it, the actual black portion GROWS BIGGER.
To be fair, you already have to tap the current notch to go to the top, and some people swipe down Notification Center from the top center of the display (where the notch is)
I haven’t have any problems with the camera getting dirty so I guess it’ll work fine!
Haha that’s really weird and cool. Very innovative. Maybe the first real surprise in a long time apart from the Touch Bar and makes me love Apple again.

Wish they would make such effort on the whole UI. It's been the same boring thing since 2013 for the love of god!
Haha yeah it’s amazing when you think about it like that…I’ve been complaining about the notch for years and said I wouldn’t upgrade my X till they got rid of it. Apple got me again! Cheers!
Give me a break folks, it’s nothing more than a gimmick.
Oh for god sakes, before y'all were bitchin' about the hole on the screen & now it "dynamically" grows bigger covering more of the screen and now it's "ooh so amazing". Funny 'cause there was gripes for ages about the volume control being centre screened and when iOS16 stopped notifications from stacking & covering the screen that was applauded.

It is a neat little party trick, but I think a lot people here are way overreacting to this "feature." It's some black animations that will sometimes make you think the pill isn't there. Neat.
