I was the ONLY person on a website forum, let's call them "AI" that suggested Apple adopt a pill-shaped notch while everyone was convinced the small pill+punchhole (UGLY) was the only way.

I wish I could gloat there but I was banned from that website for telling the truth.

GLAD rumors were wrong!!

Note: I've stayed away from rumors about 2 months from the event so new rumors may have shown this Dynamic Island thing. Yes, I know the ugly punch hole is hidden.

"Why are my photos so blurry? Why are my photos so blurry? iPhone 14 Pro's cameras are glitched. Something's wonky about the new lenses. I hope you're in your return period."

No, that's just you tapping Dynamic Island which is located directly on the front facing camera.

"You're tapping it wrong" - coming soon. Screen shot this.

The cameras at the end of the notch… if you tap near middle or to left it won’t affect the camera…

It's an interesting thought but unless you have just eaten greasy fish and chips with your fingers, the outer glass would unlikely be able to pick up finger prints as it's too close.

Are we still not over this yet? It's quite obvious that a mini is only for a minority of loud voices. These loud voices keep saying Apple would sell millions and yet they released an update and now had to abandon it due to lack of sales volume.
Apple did sell millions of it though.

It now makes sense why they pulled the opening just so far down from the top of the screen, so when the dynamic island grows, such as during a call, you have a clean separation between the top of the island opening and the edge of the screen. It was deliberate, even if it makes little sense to have the area there when not using the dynamic island.

Finally, some creative developing & problem solving in order to maximize an otherwise obtrusive design. Im one of the most anti-notch individuals on these forums... This however, is clever, useful, and well thought-out. Kudos to Apple, and the jailbreak community who helped pave the way for these features.

The originals yes, but the more recent, no. The vast majority of consumers had moved on to the larger form factor.
Do you have a link to the numbers? The last I remember was that the mini accounts for around 5% of new iPhone sales, and Apple sells roughly 200 million iPhones per year.

This was a really cool idea. We still have to have an area for the TrueDepth camera, so might as well make the most of it. I was ready to upgrade anyway, but this was a pleasant surprise on the 14 Pro.

Why not a dynamic notch? It's not like the tiny strip of display above the island is romotely useful and it makes it stand out more? I dunno. Maybe you need to see and compare them both side to side. But surely they could have given the non-pro a dynamic notch since it doesn't have the 'island'?
I initially thought the same thing, but then imagine what you would end up with, if the notch expanded out sideways and/or down - you’d have a big black-screened forehead. The reason they pulled down the camera and sensors, so there is a small strip between the cutout and the edge of the screen, was just to allow for a small separation between the screen background and the expanded dynamic island, as a cleaner graphic design element.

TBH I don't have the numbers to hand but I think you've highlighted the blocker....5% of new iPhone sales means 95% were not the Mini...with R&D , marketing and dev costs, that is just not good enough for the likes of a company of Apple's size.
