Wow, microsoft are boned. PS4 is $100/€100/£80 cheaper, no used game DRMs, no always online check in thing and less expensive monthly fee.

I probably won't get it for a year or to due to being a poor student/wanting a rMBP/waiting for price to drop/any first year kinks to be worked out/usually buying used games so waiting for some to actually be available, but I'm really impressed with PS4 and am very tempted to splash out later in the year...

----------

I like the design. $399, no disc DRM. Looks like Sony and Nintendo will dominate the next generation...

Microsoft must be kicking themselves for the hash of a press conference. I couldn't find much on their E3 thing earlier but I gather that was nothing special either?

They're going to have to make a big change to their strategy with this competition.

I watched a bit - the only thing worth noting was the redesigned 360 in preparation of Fall price drops on previous gen consoles.... wanna get one when it's $149...

This is classic. I started doing this with my Atari 2600 carts - in 1979...

:p

Yep, I loved that part of the presentation. Direct blow to Microsoft. Will definitely be getting the PS4, been with Playstation since the original, here is to another awesome generation of gaming

I'm really happy with Sony right now! I might get a PS4 early next year at that price.

That sharing instructional video is hilarious! lol.

Looks like Sony is now in pole position. If i were buying a console now there is only one real choice.

Just a note that people are noticing that the $399 is only showing the console and 1 controller - no camera unit. The camera unit is included in the XBOne (and is necessary).

Plus, a publisher can opt out of MS's DRM for discs. Why would they opt in if they make the same game for PS4 and Wii U without it?

Camera is listed for $59, so still cheaper overall.

Also, hard drive is 500GB, don't know about Xbone's.

The only thing missing for me was a new Uncharted game, really.

Sony are off to an excellent start!

Well NaughtyDog has been busy with The Last Of Us, doubt they'd had time to work on an Uncharted game for the PS4 at the moment.

I have to say this was a pretty awesome day of announcements! A bunch of stuff I've been wanting or waiting years to hear about too. A new Mac Pro, a simple and clean iOS redesign, Mirror's Edge 2, Kingdom Hearts III, and Final Fantasy XV ( Versus XIII ).

That Killer Instinct casual-rape joke was a bit crazy!

I think we all expected Microsoft would come up with something to add value to Gold to get it up to PS+, but 2 games a month (and currently they've only announced a 4 and 6 year old game, Plus is getting 4-month old AAA games and some indie games when they launch!) seems a bit tight.

My Gold account ends next month, unless more incentives are announced I won't be renewing.
Mine ends in a few weeks.

If the camera is separate and optional, that's even better news. I have no use for that thing!

The only *slightly* bad news is that you need PS Plus for online multiplayer. I know PS Plus has been a good deal so far, but I doubt I will go for it. Come to think of it, I don't remember the last time I even played online multiplayer... So as long as the PSN still works with friends list, store, etc. I should be fine.

WWDC, E3 a trillion videos and press conferences... I'm exhausted already.

Haven't been blown over by any ame reveals, but do like price of the PS4 and the fact remote play is mandatory on Vita so finally will get some use it of that...

So far game wise 'next gen' equates to less aliasing, more polygons, but otherwise the exact same games / experiences. They don't feel 'next gen' to me.

That's kinda what I was thinking just now... Game-wise, I didn't really see any system sellers for either platform.

I was planning to wait at least one year anyways, and use the time to catch up on all those PS3 games I want to play: Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, Beyond: 2 Souls, GTAV, plus tons of Games I haven't finished. That will keep me busy and satisfied for AT LEAST a year. And by then the PS4 library will have grown substantially, and the earlier releases will be dirt cheap.

I've had (or shared) the original and PS2, but I jumped ship last gen. Looks like I'll be back.

IMO:

PS2 was better than Xbox.

Xbox 360 was better than PS3 for gaming, PS3 was a better all round entertainment device.

From what we've seen they will now switch roles with PS4 being better for gaming and the Xbox being a better (overpriced monstrosity of an) entertainment system.

I've seen it said that this is a much smaller jump than last gen to current gen.

I think it's more of an incremental step up, and just like this gen, we will see games get better over time.

It's almost like we've hit the performance ceiling with games at the moment, so the new gen provides more space to continue on the current trajectory. That's how I see it anyway.

How so? Thinking back to the games I enjoyed the most this gen, they're all on PS3. Uncharted series, SOTC HD, GT5 (with wheel!), Little Big Planet, Journey.
But I'm not really into console shooters, which the Xbox had lots of.

Aaaaaah it's region free and you can upgrade the HDD yourself. It's like they purposely designed a console for gamers, how novel!

I should clarify that I have pretty limited experience with the PS3, and I'm not the most hardcore gamer either.

From my limited experience I just prefer the whole gaming experience on the 360. It's not huge differences but subtle ones, just things like the dashboard etc..

Plus I really haven't been a fan of dualshock controllers since I was little. Now I much prefer something a bit chunkier and (IMO) ergonomic like the 360 controller. I had mad catz controllers for PS2.

I haven't got madly into any platform exclusives. I have forza 2 which came with my console, and I love it but I could easily live without. I've also spent fair amounts of time playing little big planet and while enjoyable, it isn't really my type of game.

When it comes down to it, the pad is the most important aspect of the experience for me. But Sony absolutely destroyed Microsoft on restrictions and pricing so I'll have to give up the sexy controller! :(

The fact that Microsoft made such a big boob does mean Sony is getting an 'easy pass' on the fact it is making online games fee based via PS+ membership.

But as an early subscriber I have to say its the best €50 I spend each year on gaming.

PS4 will have BC for PS3 games plus those games can be played on the Vita via Gaikai...I have to see it to believe it but if it performs as such then this is great for Vita owners.

They sort of shoe horn the multiplayer being apart of plus but if gaikai works and I don't have to buy my retail PS3 games(highly doubt this) then this is gold for me.
