Wow, Sony is hitting all the right notes!!

I almost feel bad for Microsoft.

I rather enjoyed this:

From here.

Well, PS4 it most definitely is. I've always gone for Sony and Nintendo consoles and that doesn't look like changing any time soon.

So I'm all in on the Nintendo hardware - and love my Wii U and 3DS XL.

What has me intrigued enough to get the Sony hardware will be this what sounds like subscription gaming service.

(Anyone have links to more info on that?)

From the keynote it sounds like a Netflix for your Vita and PS4 - when that hits in 2014 I may finally get a non-Nintendo system to use in addition to my Nintendo gear.

I love that Sony is used game friendly and collector friendly with stuff working even if their servers go down as they will eventually.

Sony seems to have their heads on straight - even though I'm not a fan of their controller - they seem to have some good ideas that will sell me on their hardware.

With the way people are reacting to Xbox One ( myself included ) ... a couple right decisions by Sony and the PS4 is going to blow it out of the water.

I'm thinking Sony *did* make all the right moves:
1. 399 price point dollars/euros
2. No DRM/no need for internet connection
3. No restrictions on used games...

Basically, it looks like the XBox One is just a Micro$oft attempt to get a trojan horse (so to speak) into your house & soak up more money, since PC growth has been so flat.

Plus, $500 for the XBox? For off-the-shelf AMD parts?

Sony is looking real good now...

Agreed. The only thing I like about the Xbox is that you don't need to keep the discs, any game bought is tied to you and can be redownloaded at any time. I live getting rid of clutter, and not having a bookcase full of video games is great.

Everything else, mandatory kinnect, price, drm, inconsistent trade in policies, etc is terrible.

They should have simply put a code in the box, no disc. Allow you to turn in any game for 1/2 to 1/4 the current selling price (in Microsoft credit.). I think kindle does something like that already, correct?

Anyway, it is what it is.

Nintendo has become so lame...

That being said, PS4 for me. Microsoft is full of themselves. They think people are OK with their BS controls. **** them.

Most of the games shown for the U didn't appeal to me much tbh, but Donkey Kong looked superb. Kart and Smash would be fine as well I guess, but those multiplayer inhouse sessions belong to the past for me. Don't pity that too much since there was lots of alcohol and other stuff involved...:D That Sonic game, I dunno, compared to Mario 3d it didn't look good imho. Duck Tales art style is not for me - could have been good. This Zelda ain't my thing, too.

Edit: AutoUnion beat me to it.

It's odd with Nintendo.

Watching that Direct event was great - there were no fireworks, it was just an honest man telling us politely to "watch this video please". Nobody else can do that and it was great to be fed info in that way.

We only get 1 Smash Bros, 1 Mario Kart, 2 Zeldas and Marios if we're lucky per generation but I prefer them to anything else I play. You can feel the attention to detail, that gaming is still an artform to them. The life of all Nintendo systems isn't one full of peaks, but they have the biggest peaks (IMO).

And highlighted by Nintendo: We have these incredibly powerful consoles in our homes, if you have the machine you're a customer. So why not stream your events to your console as well? I like that Nintendo do that now... I'd rather hear it from the horses mouth than from a journalist.

Well put. I like it, too.

Still, the games weren't that interesting to me. But since I just calculated what games will be bought this year most definitely anyway, I can more that live with it (WatchDogs, Luigi, Marvel Lego, Pikmin). After seeing BF4 multiplayer footage today, I think it will be more than enough to 'waste' my time. Have to look when DK should be released though.

Not sure if this is the 'right' thread, but I've to say that design wise, I am more than glad I got the U. XBone looks horrible and the PS4 better but not as good imho. If you go minimal, you can't do it halfway. Also 89 Pounds for a PS touchpad controller at Amazon.co.uk...you serious?

Nintendo has the most to do and to prove | But yet again dissapoint me.

The only thing E3 and nintendo direct has done has re-confirmed to me that the Nintendo Wii U is just my 'additional' console for Nintendo games.

Sadly, I have NO FAITH in Nintendo release dates after falling for the 'launch window' of Pikmin 3 (expecting it first in January as they estimated only to end up waiting nearly an entire year for the game) ....

So they can tell me Mario Kart 8 is Spring 2014, but I wouldn't be surprised if that became Dec 2014.... Likewise Dec 2012 for Mario could be realistically be June / July 2014 given their past record of adhering to launch dates.

Sadly I don't see any reason to believe their dates at all ..... They have to prove they can keep to them, not just throw them out knowing they have massive holes in their launch schedule to fill and gamers growing increasingly bored / frustrated and the general apathy to the Wii U gaining further momentum.

The only thing that I am still looking forward to is the WindWaker remake. A game I've played half a dozen times and still own and occasionally trot out. That's quite depressing that a 10 year old game is the only thing that made me go - ok I'm looking forward to that.

Going through the various trailers...the only games shown I would potentially buy so far are Infamous: Second Son and Watch Dogs. And even those are "probably"s, not "must-buy"s.

I find myself thinking similar, very little that has me genuinely excited.... :(

No *Bleeping* new Metroid game...
A HD version of Wind Waker is cool and all but I want a new game.
Bayonetta 2 was good stuff

I'm still on the fence with the WiiU and looks like Nintendo wants me to stay there.

So far the only game(s) that caught my eye are Destiny(I'm impressed) Tom Clancy's the Division and Mirror's Freaking Edge 2!.

Bless

Do you guys not remember 2005? 360 launch, aside from CoD2 was rough. Nothing good came out until Oblivion March the next year. Or Vita (nothing) 3DS (nothing) Wii U (nothing) PS3 (nothing).

The big guns for this year, aside from GTA V, have already been let out. Bioshock Infinite, Last of Us, DMC, Tomb Raider, Crysis, Metro etc.

Next year E3 will be the OMG next-next-gen reveals.

Nintendo needs to get their **** together or ****. Seriously. The Wii U has been a colossal fail and no one is buying it. The games are mediocre at best. The best they could come up with is a remake of Wind Waker in HD? Seriously?

They either need to get their stuff together and make a powerful console without the childish gameplay of the Wii, or just stick to making games.

Do you even own a Wii U?

It's an awesome console.

Nintendo, IMHO, doesn't even need to compete with Sony and MS current generation - and never will.

They can't afford to come out with $400 - $500 console and yet appeal to everyone, especially with Nintendo IP fans.

In the past, it's always been a battle between 2 large companies and there's a 3rd also-ran. Nintendo seems to do fine being the also-ran.

Nintendo is looking great!

The only game I didn't get was F-Zero! Mario Kart, Mario 3D World, Wonderful 101, Smash Bros, that X game. They'll all be mine.
I saw a lot of "maybes" at Sony's event and I thought that was the best show.

It's crazy how much goal posts are moved when it comes to stuff like this, but I wouldn't call Nintendo also-ran when they dominated last gen (console and handheld) and currently doing the same for this gen's handheld market. And http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html 7 Wii games, 8 360 and 8 PS3 games (multiplat too) in the top ranked games. They're a valid competitor that just so happens to do its own thing.

I really don't know if I will update or not. If I could get the new Xbox and still play all my old favourite games I would seriously consider it.
I've never owned a playstation and not sure now is the generation to start. I might just sit back and wait for a title that I really want. In the meantime I'll keep using my xBox and maybe start getting some titles for my Mac.
That said, purely by hours I will still do most of my gaming on iOS!:apple:

Yes, but the audience is different, and glad that they're doing their own thing.

I was in the MS Store today and there was someone pre-ordering an XBOne. They were also on their mega-sized Samsung smartphone (Tweeting it?). Something tells me that the person is not currently a Nintendo customer (the person probably was 20 years ago).

I'm not a kid anymore. As an adult, I think it's time to move on from Mario, Zelda, etc. I grew up around Nintendo. I had them all up to the Wii. They failed to cater to the people that brought them to where they are now. No young kid cares about Mario, etc these days either. It's all about COD, Gears, Halo, Uncharted, and such...

I've played it multiple times. Now I know exactly why it's failing in the marketplace.

Why don't they need to compete? Do you not want them to be in business in the future? They're stuck in the past and are trying to ride that success by remaking their greatest hits in HD. Somehow they think that is enough to get by.

Imagine Super Smash, Mario, Mario Kart on truly next gen hardware, like the PS4/XboxOne. It would be awesome.

Nothing more boring than 'console wars'.

Forgot to mention it, but since I never played it but always wanted to try it out, because it looked brilliant when first released (for PS I think): Abe's Oddysee was announced. (Well y'all know it anyway already :D)

Well, as an adult, I have less and less time to game...wife & responsibilities, & all (I know, boring).

I find my video game needs are well taken care of by Nintendo and a high-end PC. I haven't seen a real reason to buy any of the latest M$ or Sony gear, but I think that a three-way (or more) race provides a healthy level of competition and benefits us all as gamers.

I also don't understand this whole "console wars" / "fanboi"-ism. I mean, on one level, I get it, but on another level, it is idiotic/juvenile. There are good games on *ALL* consoles, so why limit yourself?

Back in the day, I used to have one of each major console. It was sweet, never had to worry about missing a good game. Unfortunately, with the wife, there seems to be a limit to how many cables and contraptions I can have hooked up to the TV in the main room...and I go mad trying to keep everything sorted in my office.

Anyway, I was disappointed by the seeming delays for good games on the Wii U, but, usually Nintendo keeps a low profile at E3, and makes their big announcements at the Tokyo Game Show (coming this Sept. ?).
