It's funny that you should say this. I am asking for a 7 lbs. 15" notebook and a 9 lbs. 17" or even 19" MacBook Pro desktop replacement. Yes... would use that and yes I would pull that thing out in a coffee shop and take up my table and the table next to me and generate enough heat to keep my coffee warm. I just saw a guy with an old Dell XPS notebook and it was HUGE! From my quick glance I saw maybe 4 or 6 USB ports, I want that many FW 400 and 800 and eSATA ports. I want two hard drives inside the case. I want dual 2.8 GHz Intel processors... I want a man's computer!

I want the 15" MBP to be sexy small as well, but can we get that and a real screamer of a 17" too? It doesn't even have to be that large... just give me the current model redesigned to hold two HDDs and more professional ports, not USB ports, FW and eSATA.

The average person doesn't want a heavy laptop, but the average professional wants a machine that can crunch some uncompressed 1080i no problem.

I can see that there's a need for such machines, but Apple tends to focus on the aesthetics to the extent that making such a machine might be difficult. Most Apple products are svelte, thin, and understated in appearance. Imagining a thicker 17" MacBook MadMax edition just doesn't coincide with what many people think of when they think of "Apple."

Yeah, though actually the Mac Pro really is a high end piece of hardware, often having more and faster CPUs than a typical Windows box, so it's not inconceivable they'd release a high end notebook. There were actually rumors about that a while back.

Personally I'd like something similar to Dell's XPS 1730 from Apple, only with a single 8800GTX, a Penryn CPU, no physics chip, and an LED backlight. But the same kind of easy access to the internals, design (hopefully) built to actually use the system at full blast, etc. That would be about perfect to me.

next tuesday!

I don't care if people get mad about that played out joke, I still think it's funny

Well some decades ago people were waiting for years in the hope that the first generation Macs will get a hard disc (IBM PCs had HDs by that time). It never happened.
Then people waited for SJ to bring colour displays to the Mac, as a lot of MS-DOS PCs had them. Which also never happened (until SJ left Apple, if my memory doesn't trouble me).
Conclusion: are we waiting for Nessie

Hell, I'm still trying to get over the whole renaming to "MacBook" which I still find one of the worst names in electronics history.

please happen. i was thinking 2 weeks from today, then i saw this, so maybe this coming tues??!! i just hope soon, cmon...

please please please let this rumor be true. i've been wanting a new macbook pro since november but i thought for sure there would have been an update for now. this waiting is killing me... i feel like a little kid who has to use the bathroom on a long road trip and can't hold it any longer. i am (figuratively) about to pee in my pants.

So lets say we do get this update that we are all wanting, only to find out it's the same case design! If this happens,(which most people think) how long until they would reinvent the whole design?

I'm a design student! So of course I am torn between form(fashion) and power. I love design, so I really am hoping for a thinner and lighter machine with curved edges like the MBA, but on the other hand I need a workhorse b/c I have to run apps like AUTO CAD for 3-d floorplans!
:D

The same case design is fine with me, as long as some sort of a hardware update comes :p Not sure when they would do a total redesign, though maybe an updated exterior would come when they drop in the new Intel platform. It seems like they've been making tiny changes at every update. For example, the LCD panel that sits slightly higher up in the SR MBP versus the one immediately before.

dear dmb,
You are anxed about your purchase..you might even be loosing sleep over it....You know your answer especially if you are surfing these forums. Take it back and be done with it! Come, dwell in the company of the miserable, the anxious, the eternally disappointed, MBP update waitees. Wait with us...wait with us...you'll never be one of us unless you wait and wait and wait!

fine, but only because you said so ;) :p

lol it's really getting bad. I should be studying but I can't think at all. Hmmm.... I'm not a gamer at all, but maybe a fun little addicting game might help.

I've just booked a gorgeous hooker for next Tuesday, but I told her that if the MBP is updated I will cancel on her. Either way I am in for a treat.
