"The next MacBook Pro Feb. 12

The month of January has been very busy for Apple, the Mac Pro, MacBook Air, the Time Capsule, ads iTunes ...
The company has a habit of breaking down the best out of its products to occupy the headlines in the media as often as possible. It is certainly for this reason that they have not yet spent the rest of their range processors Penryn.
One of our contacts has taught us that new products will certainly be announced Tuesday, February 12. This will most certainly new MacBook Pro.
Of course, this is to be taken with the usual reservations, this information is currently unverifiable, and Apple has often changed its release schedules at the last minute."

I can wait 11 days.
I think it would be at least a month between launching the Air and anything else.

That's basically what I've been saying since I've wanted to upgrade to the MBP...which was January 2007!! In the beginning, it was, 'I'll wait for Santa Rosa'...then SR came along and I wasn't in the mindset to buy a MBP (b/c I bought a motorcycle!)...then September/October rolls around and I said, 'I'll wait for Penryn.' Well, what's another 11 days? ;)

But, after waiting for 1+ year, my patience is wearing thin.

May I take this moment to blow some steam about the macbook air! This retarded product is what is keeping :apple:'s best and most eloquent piece of machinery, of which we are all so diligently waiting for, from coming out (MBP). And the prospects of the Air?

-light
-touchpad

WOW! Big deal! The macbook is only a bit larger and heavier (but remember the MB is already small and light for a laptop) and can outperform the Air. I heard on a podcast where they did tests for speed on the three notebooks for applications and various tasks like booting, etc. The MBP won (of course), then the MB, then the Air. I understand that business men (or others who constantly travel) would want a light, portable, machine. But why pay almost the price of the MBP for a gutted version when you could get the macbook cheaper or the macbook pro for a hint more, both with many more features! I don't get how a metal envelope is keeping :apple:'s flagship from receiving an update! Well, actually I do get it: money (Darn marketing).

I've heard other people's comments too that :apple: doesn't want to cloud people's jjudgments or steer them away from one product to another. But don't you think Apple would want people to buy the MBP since its more expensive, hence more profitable. But whatever. Enough said.

Sorry for blowing the steam.

The MBP is a stunning machine; maybe the best laptop money can buy. Not everybody, however, requires the MBP's rich feature set. For example, if you have a powerful desktop but you need to constantly carry a laptop for school or business. The most processor intense chore you require of the laptop might be iPhoto or iWeb, but other than that it's email, internet, word processing and spreadsheets. Shedding 2.6 lbs from your bag and still having everything you need in a spectacularly beautiful laptop might be a very attractive alternative.

And then there's just personal preference. Even among those of us who are anxious for the new MBP's, how many of us truly have reached the performance limits of the machines we already have?

Two great machines, two great choices.

Totally Agreed

I by far prefer notebooks over desktops due to mobility, so my next computer will definitely be one of Apple's macbook's. That being said though, it will most likely be the Air. Being both a student and a businessman, i need the long battery life, easy mobility, and lightness in weight of the computer. I don't need my notebook to be souped up to the max as my desktop already is. That is why they designed the macbook air, to be used alongside a powerful desktop. I am tired of people saying what a waste the macbook air is since it has very little power compared to the macbook pro. Apple knew this from the start and developed it like that for a reason! I have a 24" Imac with 2.8 extreme core and 4 gigs of ramm, and with all the rendering i do with After Effects, and Photoshop, i have been very happy. But when it comes to when i get a notebook, i don't need all this insane processing power. I just need to be able to integrate with my desktop mac, which Apple makes very easy with timemachine, the macbookair, and .Mac. The notebook is to allow me to take notes, to show clients my portfolio, and to keep connected with websites, rss, and email, not to be rendering complex stuff in After Effects while the professor is talking.

Enough said for now. Your thoughts?

Remote Disk on future Iphone

Another thought of mine. We have seen the remote disk in the new MacBook Air due to the fact it has no optical disk. Now thinking like apple here, they rarely develop a piece of software for just one product. Example: the multi-touch that will ultimately be on the macbook pro, and is already on the macbook air and iphone. So here is my guess. The next major iPhone release will somehow incorporate this Remote Disk technology allowing us to run things from our local network. Obviously it will get far more complex and will probably integrate with places like Starbucks, but i think the opportunities are quite big here. I am new to the forum so if this is in the improper place please let me know.

Thanks.

Again to reinforce this. I am just now starting to feel the old effects of my Titanium Powerbook G4 1ghz for every day use. Today it is on its 1889th day of constant travel and use. The most limiting factors of this old machine right now are lack of usb2.0, low CPU (todays DVD encode would have taken 5 hours) and web browsing is becoming increasingly difficult.

My goal is a new MBP around Oct, so i'm in no rush on the updates, I just like to know what sort of fun stuff they add :) Wishing you all luck on the ones who want one asap.

That's the same specs as mine. I too have trouble with many high end processes now but web browsing is fine. You may have some other problem there.

I fully agree with everything you said on MBA vs. MBP. MBA is not competing with MBP but - if at all - with MB.

I guess the delay for MBP is related to unsolved problems with 10.5.2 which probably is needed for the new MBP.

The waiting is getting a bit annoying... I am now starting to think that it won't happen until March/April time - and even then, it won't be a redesign.

What I would like to see:

- new updated design
- LED all around
- Penryn
- SSD option
- Multi-touch
- Mag latch
- Better airport as MBP is rubbish at picking up wifi!!

Come on Apple, sort it out...
