That would be my current problem also. For my Macroeconomics class, quizzes are done online and the site verifies if you have IE (can't use Firefox), therefore Mac users are screwed....IE always gives me the shivers....soo bloated and slow.

I need to use programs like Quartus and Xilinx to do Verilog and FPGA board stuff. Computer Engineering major here.

I KNOW BROTHER TELL ME ABOUT IT!

Those PC laptops with dual drives are looking quite nice and the new 1TB laptops from Asus are giving me the chills. Starting to have hardware withdrawls over here.

I'm running low on memory on my Imac, I had to delete a few things to servive
and lately and my Appleworks (I still need word lol) hasnt been loading and I need to write papers!

4 page paper about demogratic ethics in the work place due in a few weeks :/

You double posted (posts #681 and #686). As in posted the same thing twice. It's just annoying. That's all. Try not to do it again. :)

Penryn is a given.

New graphics card I don't think is at all likely. Apple is not going to go for a more power hungry chip like the 8700M, and certainly not the 8800M. I can't find anything about the HD 3600 from AMD, but I doubt Apple will use it, because I doubt it's much faster (Someone find me a review!).

Multitouch is also a given.

Don't know what the MBA keyboard is like, but I hate the MB keyboard. So unless the Air keyboard is really freakin' awesome, not gonna change.

Magnetic latch... Hmmm... Maybe...

And hot swappable optical bay also not gonna happen. Sorry.

Hey guys, sorry about the double post. I just clicked the edit button & didn't realize that would cause it to post again. What did I do wrong? Argh.

Yeah, I know an upgraded graphics card is unlikely, and I definitely don't expect them to bring back the hot-swappable optical bay either. (Although IMHO it was one of the best features ever introduced!) I was just stating what my ideal upgrade would be, as are most of you I might add.

Now on to the next Tuesday. Sigh...

2/4/08 G4 reviewed the MBA and at the end Kevin said new MBP's due in a couple of weeks. Video is up in "The Pile"

it's always in a couple of weeks, isn't it? how many 'couple of weeks' can be within a couple of weeks?
time is taking a serious hit here ...

Yeah. Its rough with all the whispers and rumors. I have a date when I will buy, but till then just watch/read and wait. I was happy to hear him say something, but who can you trust?

Next Tuesday™

No no, you don't understand...they've got a prerelease Macbook Pro from...[queue spooky music] Next Tuesday™

yeaah , that's great .. let's call it
the

Next Tuesday™ insanity :)

At the main San Francisco Apple Store, yesterday, Wed 6 Feb 2007:

Me: Good morning. I was out at a client site yesterday and wondered whether the minor upgrade to Penryn MacBooks happened.
Apple Employee #1: Uh, what's Penryn?
Me: It's the chip revision in the MacBook Pros.
Apple Employee #2: Oh no, I'm pretty sure we've got Intel chips inside them.
Me: Yes, it's an Intel Core 2 Due chip. The chip revision is currently nicknamed Santa Rosa and the latest and greatest Intel version is called Penryn, which has been rumored to be ready for release any Tuesday now.
Apple Employee #1: I don't know . about that. Let's ask [name elided to protect the guilty], he knows everything about that.
Me: Hi. I'm trying to figure out whether the MacBook Pro line was upgraded to Penryn yesterday.
Apple Employee #2: What? They've got Intel inside them now.
Me: Yes, I know. Do you know which version of the Intel Core 2 Due chip is shipping inside them?
Apple Employee #2: They didn't mention anything about that to us in the Tuesday meeting. We have a bigger iPhone and iPod touch, you know. They told us about that.
Apple Employee #1: Hey, why don't you call us when you hear about that new thing?

Seriously. It was like that Star Trek TNG episode with the dimwits who keep repeating "We're smart". Sigh. For a moment I thought they were kidding me, then I realized they really didn't have a clue.

This is one of Apple's flagship stores (the others being NYC and London, IIRC). I understand the staff not being told future plans, but if they can't afford to hire fanboys there then they're missing out half the selling power. (Damn, make me a reasonable offer and I'll work there. I've only been doing Macs since the 512k.) To not even have a clue...

Pakled Apple Store staff? I like the sound of that.

I'm looking to hopefully upgrade from my MacBook to a Pro using my tax return.

I think they actively pick people without any real interest in the company. I've been to two interviews here in the UK, and in the second the manager revealed she didn't own a computer - when she BECAME manager.

Suffice to say, I never picked up a job at either interview ;)

Geek Quiz #1 Date __ /__ /__

After you have finished, please return to the front

1. You might be a fanboy when? When you know more about the product then the works for the company that makes it

2. Name at least three CPU cores from Intel: Dothan, Santa Rosa, Merom

3. Is going from 667 HMz to 800 MHz memory good or bad: Good

4. If Jonny Appleseeds' MacBook Pro (1G) came with 512 MiB or RAM, in two equal sized sticks, and he removed one and swapped with Sally whoes Santa Rosa MBP came with 2 GiB (equally sized modules), how much would the ROM change? This is a trick question, because they are dealing with RAM (Random Access Memory) not ROM (Read Only Memory), therefore, the ROM will not change.

At least you have "physical" retail store nearby. Many others like me don't have one, instead we have an online store which honestly is not the same by far.
