I have to agree with you, people keep wanting a new design but for me the Macbook as it exists has a simplicity about it that says "how could you improve on this?" I look at dark side laptops and most have some sort of "ornamentation" that appears to be trying to create a sense of style which fails miserably against the MB.

I am waiting for the 45nm chip, an up to date screen and a (maybe) a multi touch pad.

My Pismo was the last of a good line, I don't mind buying another "last of a good line" if it lasts me another seven years.

Apple have to upgrade soon to keep competitive but the big upgrade will come later is my guess.

Macbook Air, I suspect, is a distraction with another purpose.

High noon on the West coast, what time is that in the real world? Suppose about 2 am on Wednesday here.

I agree with you. Sometimes Apple's products look so great (Macbook pro) that I can't imagine them changing it. But Apple always surprises use with something. Who would of thought that they would announce a laptop with tapered edges at Macworld? I agree with your opinion on the 'Dark Side' (lol) laptops, too. They always try to look cool with their their carbon fibre patterns and their stickers. Sometimes, they even look pretty nice but it's a different type of nice compared to macs. I think it's human nature to like simple designs like Apple's products.

And now this from CNET news... I wonder if it has anything to do with new MBPs...

Rumor: Apple planning late February event?
Posted by Tom Krazit | 17 comments

Apple could be gearing up for a late February event, according to a report out Thursday.

The Unofficial Apple Weblog reported that Mira Mobile Television, a West Coast television production firm, is hiring in preparation for an Apple event to be held at the end of February. TUAW notes that the listings aren't posted on Mira's site, and it calls its own report an "unconfirmed rumor" based on a single source.

So why give it any credence? For one, Apple's Greg Joswiak earlier this week reiterated the company's plans to introduce the iPhone software developer's kit in late February. It's hard to imagine how a media event heralding a software developer's kit would unfold, but the timing would be right, and the release of the SDK is a significant milestone in the evolution of the iPhone.

Coming off the new higher-capacity iPhone and iPod Touch introduced this week, it would be a bit surprising if Apple chose this rumored event to launch the 3G iPhone, but that would certainly be an equally important milestone. Announcements about additional European carriers as well as the first Asian carriers are also expected in due time.

AppleInsider said it had heard similar rumors concerning a late February event, but was likewise unable to call it anything else but a rumor. Stay tuned, the invitations for these kinds of things tend to go out about a week or so ahead of time.

I doubt you'd be saying that if the Vaio emblem was changed to the Apple logo.:p

No really I wouldn't. Let's see apple designs I hate.... Well the G4 cube for one. And the Ti Powerbook. Couldn't stand that black keyboard and the crappy looking plasitc all the way around it. Oh and the new imac. It's disgusting. Much prefer the white design. And that crappy black plasitc on the back? Please.

hmm one thing that i dont think was mentioned at all would be an HDMI port. Anyone think the new MBPs may see one of these?? would certainly be great when u consider the apple movie rentals.

maybe apple can code in a feature that while a movie plays, the unit just becomes essentially a player (where sleep mode is suspended so we can close it up and just use the apple remote), and the hdmi port shoots all video, least until movie is over, to my tv :)

I dont think its impossible to see, that vaio has one.

One of the guys from the audio forum mentioned this:

"I'm looking for some advice in regards to Macbook Pro's. I have a Macbook Pro ordered and delivery to the supplier is expected within a day or two. It's a 17" 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM and a 200GB 7200rpm HDD.

The supplier rang today and asked if I would prefer one of the newer models instead, which are 'expected' in the next two weeks. Turns out this is a rumour, so it could potentially be much longer than that. It looks like these new models have a small Solid State Drive, which would be cool, but apparantly existing macbooks can also get an upgrade to have one of these, so it's not as much of a feature for me now. They use the new Penryn chip, which will apparantly give about a 20% performance increase and also use less battery and produce less heat."

He mentioned that the supplier called and asked if he would prefer the newer models...but then he said that its a rumor. What you think this means?

Probably that the supplier has no idea, either haha. Or after talking to the supplier maybe the guy realized that it's a widespread rumor and is expressing his lack of faith in the supplier.

Basically it doesn't seem like anyone knows anything at this point.

lol i guess so, but its a huge concern to everyone. I need a laptop coz i sold mine (blackbook) to buy the new updated macbook pro. been waiting since MWSF to be honest. Ive been stuck with using the college dells. I rili rili hope this tuesday is it! :(

Well it could mean that supplier has spoken to a reliable source or that the supplier has been reading sites like these.

Either way tomorrow will tell... or maybe not!

Tomorrow is do or die for me, if there's nothing then Apple will have to wait another 3-4 years for my money to be spent on a Macbook Pro! As i'll be buying something else with a Penryn!

Yeah, me too actually lol though I didn't have a BlackBook to sell - just waiting for the MBP so I can finally be able to avoid those pesky Dells.

shucks...tuesday is do or die for me too...been waiting too long for an update due since way back

I've been after a mbp since December, needed a laptop badly for university, but decided do wait for the updated version, just to get more value for money. Will be my first Mac and im looking forward to it, but if in the next 2 weeks if theres still no updated version of mbp, i will be forced to choose maybe an Asus ou Sony.

I wonder how many tech-savvy guys are out there willing to switch. Lots of Windows users are populating these boards nowadays. People like "ridehard" (lol :D) are basically just waiting to stash their dough down Apple's throat...

AND ME EITHER! C'mon Apple I wanna upgrade my Core Duo MBP. It's getting looooong in the tooth. :apple::cool:

saschke,

Its just i'm sick and tired of windows, tried linux but just did not work for me.
I want some change, so i chose mac.
But 1900€ does not justify the hardware it brings now, and 1900€ is a lot of cash, when the minimum (normal) wage is 400€.
So i think of it as a long term investment, hopefully.

It's a shame, but i'm not spending £1700 on an out of date bit of kit! It's complete madness.

I'm sure we're not the only ones that feel like this.

i know wut u mean and i feel the same way too. I just need a laptop for everyday college needs and cant surpass a week without one. If it comes tomorrow, all's well! if not, im glad i still have an apple :)
:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

i really hope it comes tomorrow, i am sick of working with my crappy company dell notebook, already sold my white macbook to get the MBP

I'm really hoping they release the new MPB asap but lets see... if they do release it tomorrow, we are just expecting minor spec bumps right? I'm kinda wanting them to release it at the event coming up on the 26th. I think here is where we might have a better chance of a slight redesign and all the spec bumps we have all been waiting for..

Either way, I wanted it yesterday. I hope apple releases it soon:D:apple:

I swear it if doesn't come out tommarow. . . I'll probably wait till next week

I want the see an updated MBP just as much as anyone else, but I think tomorrow will only be the official shipment (release) of the Time Capsule.
