Wtf?

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Digitimes reports that Intel is poised to launch the Montevina platform at Computex Taipei 2008, which takes place from June 3-7, 2008.

Montevina is the next revision to Intel's mobile platform and will carry the consumer brand "Centrino 2" to distiguish it from the current "Centrino" brand which has encompassed a number of revisions (Carmel, Sonoma, Napa and Santa Rosa).

Six new 45nm notebook CPUs accompanying the release will feature a 1066MHz Front Side Bus with clock speeds ranging from 2.26-3.06GHz. The recently released Penryn processors range from 2.1 to 2.8GHz and offer a 800MHz Front Side Bus. The Penryn processors have not yet been incorporated into Apple's notebook line, despite persistent rumors of an imminent release.

Meanwhile, Digitimes also notes that Intel is planning on releasing 45-nm processors similar to the MacBook Air's custom processor in the 3rd quarter of this year.

Yeah ain't that the pits. IF Apple releases an updated MBP even this week, is it worth it to buy now or hold off another 4-6 months for the new chip set to be released into another upgrade?
I guess that goes to how badly you need a computer right now vers. how badly do you need to hold out for the extra umph of the Montevina.
Its the classic, buy it today, outdated by tomorrow :)

To true... I still dont know whether I should bite the bullet and just go out and buy an iphone or wait another ~15 years till Apple can surgically implant one into my brain. Decisions, decisions...

Waiting a week or 2 more for an extremely overdue upgrade makes sense. Pusing off 6+ months for an update that may never come for MONTHS after intel releases seems silly to me. Especially since apple will always update their hardware. Getting a piece of hardware that will never be obsolete simply won't happen. You just need to factor in how long you plan on keeping the piece you purchase

For me its really all about cost. It's finally time for me to upgrade my 6 year old Tibook. Do i want to wait a few weeks to spend $3k on brand new hardware, or jump the gun now and spend $3k on year old hardware.

I guess that means no penryn chips like everyone thought. Ah well... lets just hope they don't put that hideous black keyboard on the MBP. Everyone still think the announcement is tomorrow???

Shoot, I really want a new MBP! If I have to wait 6 months, i will prob. just buy one of the current ones.

I am supposed to be getting a replacement.. I am supposed to be called today ro tomorrow to get the details of my replacement... really crossing my fingers for an announcement.

So what is the verdict? New MBP in Feb or not!!!???

(Maybe everyone should just say yes to keep spirits up);)

I hate to ruin anyones night, but there will not be any update to the Macbook Pro's tomorrow. I would bet my years salary on it. I know someone who works for Apple (not at the Apple Store) and I've been told that updates are not likely until the last week of February.

If it helps at all, I'm patiently waiting myself for the update... I'd love to see it tomorrow, but it's not going to happen.

late feb = last tuesday of feb in my book. But saying a week tomorrow makes it feel a little more closer...

Say they do come tomorrow, can we divide up your year's salary amongst ourselves? Just sayin'.. ;)

After last weeks hype about february 12th, I don't think anyone going to be extremely shocked if they don't update them tomorrow...right now its just a distant hope. I'm seriously hoping for the last week in feb. If the new ones aren't released by the supposed sdk event, then I'll probably get a mac mini to tide me over until montevina.

I too am waiting for the update but I've kinda given up playing the waiting game. I bought a second hand 2.16GHz MBP for a very good price 2 days ago and am over the moon with it so as far as I'm concerned, the new MBP's come when the come.

I was originally gonna give Apple until the end of Feb before I bought elsewhere, but this offer was to good to pass up.

I'd still love the MBP's today or next Tuesday then my girlfriend can have the one I just bought, but as I say, it comes when it comes.

I too am anxiously awaiting a new MBP, but after the new rumor today about Montevina (even though I already knew it was coming out in May or June), i am seriously starting to doubt it being released tomorrow. I'm starting to think that maybe apple will pull another Mac Pro situation and wait waaaay too long to update the MacBook Pro just to wait for Montevina (I really hope not though.)

I honestly don't think Apple will do that. They can't expect to keep selling outdated notebooks for the current prices for yet another 6 months.
