Just got the phone and really like it. I’m a bit gutted that although the phone is bigger all the font size is smaller everywhere. For example Mac Rumors text is larger on my iPhone 7. There are less words per line but text size is bigger. Does display zoom have anything to do with it. It’s missing from the X. Any solutions? My eye sight is getting worse and hoping to avoid wearing glasses

Update; display zoom (the one that makes your icons larger) is responsible for the larger text. It’s not an option on the X. Any ideas why it’s gone or anyone know if it’s back in any betas etc.
It won’t help everywhere but you can go Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger text. You don’t have to tick it on, that just gives more options. Just adjust the slider at the bottom.

Which brings us to a real world battery life test.

I don’t think YouTube is a fair example as its codec is not hardware supported on iOS. At the same time, it doesn’t surprise me as iPhone battery life has been horrible to me for all versions I had (3GS, 4S and 6S).

Mixed use rarely gets above 3,5 hours and that always includes some phantom time I’m not on my phone but it records as being in use anyway.

I recently saw this iPhone versus Samsung video test and the iPhones died early on in the test, it was embarrassing.

have you tried it at night in bed?
Yes I tried it last night, mixed results really.

On my side it worked ok with the phone sideways, but if I held it above my face whilst laying on my back, looking up, it would not unlock, I can only think that maybe my white pillow cases are reflecting back more IR light than normal?

Love my Maui Jim’s

I also wear Maui Jims because they are the most comfortable sunglasses that I've ever had. Also because eyes are important. :)

I have a real question for you, presuming that you just received your iPhone X....

Can you read the phone with the polarized sunglasses? I can barely read my iPhone 7 with my Maui Jims on. It seems that the phone's anti-glare coating doesn't work with the polarizing coating on the sunglasses. I'm hoping that the iPhone X isn't the same. I'm waiting a little before ordering the phone.

"I spent the money so I must like it."

Meanwhile... "preordered" my iPhone X 256GB Kevin Spacey Grey at 12:06am a week ago ... 2-3 week estimates......................
Don't be surprised if you wake up one morning and it's in your butt.

Except when you’re in multitasking mode the app cards don’t fill the screen so you’re not really swiping from the bottom. I hope they change it.
Yeah it could be an opt
No, you swipe up, hold until the dots then appear, and THEN you can swipe up to close that app.

Display zoom is an option - go to "Accessibility" and that's where you will find the additional text sizing options. Although I don't see an option to make the icons themselves larger. This is a separate option from the "Display" setting for text.

Thanks but I’ve tried that but it didn’t solve the problem

Played around with one at Apple store during lunch. Big improvement over previous iPhones with the better OLED display especially with watching videos with dark scenes, finally less bezel and better build quality. It reminds me a lot of the pearl white 2015 Galaxy S6 except with an ugly notch and an unfamiliar home-buttonless UI. Had to show other people how to go back to home screen since they couldn't figure it out and they also commented non-positively about the missing piece of the display. For fun I asked one of the Apple genius how to maximize the screen to hide the notch but he didn't seem happy. :p

Glad you had the chance to hit the store and hold one in your hands. Work hard, do your best, and hopefully one day, you'll be able to buy one. Wishing you luck!

Well I’m loving my silver X. Took ages to set up as it had to download iOS 11.1 to pair with my watch mid way through which then chucked me out of the transferring stuff from my old phone which was a pain. The only other thing is one of my banking apps just doesn’t work with the X as it won’t log in. FaceID mostly works for me except when lying down in bed. I find it very slippery to hold so will probably buy a case for it. However, it is a joy to use other than that and certainly makes my 6s look like an antique whilst not really being any bigger noticeably which was important to me. Battery life so far seems a huge improvement over the 6s

Holy cow... I am SHOCKED nobody has talked about the setup process. I have the 7 and this year making setup like Apple TV, Watch, etc. was so smart. My old phone migrated over to my new phone in no time. And not a normal hassle utilizing iCloud backup the old way. I love love love this addition alone.

Agree! It was a breeze setting it up side by side with my 7+. Thought its genius!

So, I see a few people saying FaceID doesn’t work that well in bed, it’s somewhat reassuring as this morning I was starting to get pissed at it for not wanting to unlock. At all. Same yesterday when I was in my chair, half sitting half laying, watching the TV. Wouldn’t work. “Work at an angle” my ass ! I’m giving it 10 days of trial, see if it learns my face a bit, but if it doesn’t get better, back to Apple it goes. Did not pay the equivalent 1300$ for a 64Gb model for tech that isn’t working as advertised.

Edit : also, did anybody else notice the FaceID icon popping up in Safari when asking the phone to fill in Usernames and Passwords field ? But weirdly it does nothing it seems, not even filling the fields. Or it’s not seeing my face again, but frankly I don’t need to to authenticate me to do that, my 7 plus never asked for a TouchID confirmation to fill this fields !

Anybody knows how to adjust to full scale when screen mirroring on Apple TV? I tried it last night while it was okay on portrait mode, when i do landscape its just go quarter of the tv screen and not full screen like 7+ or 6s

I don’t think YouTube is a fair example as its codec is not hardware supported on iOS.

As it is stated in the end: Youtube might not be the best use case for using iPhone potential from a technical perspective. However, if it comes to "streaming video over wifi" it apparently is the most relevant one for real life.

I cancelled my order, I am sure its an amazing phone, but just can't justify that price. So many of my friends who are big Apple fans are not upgrading, I think Apple will have a problem that they are pricing themselves out of the market.
And why are they not Supplying the AirPods with this!

Funny how when people were saying how much better OLED looks on other phones over 5 years ago, all the fans were saying OLED was crap.

Yes, it's a stunning screen. Years behind, as only Apple can.

Ok here is the Reason Apple waited, OLED had many issues (color accuracy being one of them) Just look at how over saturated Samsung photos are!

Nope, it's $1000 or $1150. Further, it's a pocket computer with a processor faster than the entry-level MBP.
No taxes? No AppleCare?
[doublepost=1509792000][/doublepost]I am very pleased. I decided to not get the 8 and instead wait and then I bought nothing. So, I am obviously very pleased with that.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can unlock and get into my iPhone X MUCH faster than when I used touch ID. I haven't run into any issues trying to unlock with my face yet either.

This phone is really really nice. I was worried I would hate the notch, but honestly, after a few hours using the phone, I completely forgot it was even there. It's much smaller than it looks on videos.

Works perfectly for me in full darkness lying down in bed. Even supports rotational angles and leaning away angles. Rotational angle fails past about 45 degrees but that’s such an unnatural position it’s a non issue. I find fID to be operational faster even if technically slower. It feels more like I don’t have to do anything in my apps etc. open app. It unlocks. No touching anything. Everyone is focused exclusively on the unlock swipe. Non issue. I tap and swipe immediately. Don’t wait for unlock. It can handle in parallel. Love my X.

I’m not getting the X. But for Maui Jim’s

The very concept that a high-priced brand of sunglasses would have a different result with FaceID than another brand is silly (on the very face of it).
I think I see the problem. You have 100% misinterpreted what you've read. 100%. Actually, I'm not quite sure how you came to the conclusion you did reading my quotes. Suffice it to say, that's nowhere near what I was saying. Apple says that some, not all, polarized sunglasses affect Face ID. We don't know. Those guys identified a style/brand that works with Face ID. The cost had nothing to do with it. Anecdotally, we know that style/brand combo works with Face ID. They could have identified a pair of Walgreens spindle sunglasses. The cost would still be immaterial. There's nothing in my quote that comes close to suggesting what you were thinking. Sounds like you got hung up on the brand and decided to ignore anything else.

I think I may have found the culprit, after extensive further testing : I’m extremely nearsighted, don’t see past 2 inches from my eyes at best, so when I wake up, before putting my contact lenses, I have to hold the phone practically 2 inches from my face, and that’s too close for it to work no matter the surroundings, dark, light, double chin from weird head angle on the pillow... Now that I have my contacts in and actually can hold and see the screen at a normal viewing distance, it seems to work a whole lot better, no matter the angles. Still, it’s one area where touchID worked for me. But at least now I think I can say it’s me and not the system.
