Basically the only thing I can gripe about is the apps that have not been updated. UGH THIS IS CRAZY. Major app developers like Snapchat and Google should’ve had their stuff ready way ahead of time. This isn’t the phone’s fault, devs had well over a month and a half to get thier sh*t together, lots did, some didn’t and it’s dissapointing to see big guys like those above and others like CNN and BuzzFeed putter around. This is annoying. Also, the kinda big space below the keyboard is a slight adjustment, but that’s easily forgotten within seconds of use.
A month and a half to upgrade apps. Wow. Those damn lazy developers.

If I swipe down from the top after unlocking but before swiping up for home, it doesn’t pull down notifications.
Anyone else?

I can just see Trump tweeting with this as he sends off the missiles to N. Korea.."Overwhelmingly positive, love the display, faster and stronger USA than we've ever seen"...I guess only the readers who have their shipments delayed by such a tweet in the nuclear bushfire will actually stop to think about who actually makes these things...and whose side they'll be on (and how many raids our commandos will make to get Chinese/Foxconn WW3 rationing). Enjoy it while you have it, but remember it's to die for (as far as the right side of the fence thinks)!

I’ve been dreaming of something like this for YEARS. I’ve been yearning for it since September. It finally arrived today, and I’m even more impressed and in love than I had thought I’d be. Truly a groundbreaking phone.

I was never worried about the notch, and actually came to like it quickly. It gives the iPhone a distinct look. It’s what helps the iPhone stand out in a sea of thin-bezeled Androids (**cough cough Samsung—LG—Pixel—OnePlus AllLookTheSame cough cough**) and I really don’t notice it in minute to minute use. Even videos and pictures look good to me. The notch isn’t really cutting anything serious out, and I can always crop the resolution back to 16:9 if I want.

The screen is magnificent, truly a beauty, and coming from a 7, really really easy to use. Big, refined, colorful, and easy to manage.

The cameras are fantastic, I’m loving portrait mode. And Animoji ARE SO FUN. I can see myself spamming everyone with Animoji over a regular old message any day. No matter what, they make you laugh.

Face ID is “top notch”. Has recognized me in many different light settings and is so darn quick. I knew it would be quick, but this is absolutely exceeding me expectations. Swiping up is practically the same as having to press home to open, it’s no big deal and it lets me read my notifications.

The home bar gestures and control center are really intuitive and quick to get used to, especially the quick app switch one. How I ever lived without it I’ll never know. Control center was probably the oddest thing to adjust to, and I’ve pretty much got that down now.

Tough to fully prepare a major app without actual devices in hand. The simulator has been iffy.

I experimented with one at an Apple Store as the paperwork to replace my laptop was being done.

Just a few minutes, but I see the point - it's a great looking and feeling phone. Very cool.

For whatever it's worth, I fully expect to release an iPhone X+ next year. A 6.4" display crammed into the current 8+ form factor. With a starting price of $1199.

You may want to save your outrage for next year when Apple releases an even more expensive iPhone...

This 100% for sure. Bare minimum the X+ or XL or XLs or whatever they call it, will be no less than $1149 to start.

The current jump to a Plus size is $100 so we can definitely expect $150-200 for the X jump.

I’ve quoted your post but this entire reply isn’t aimed at you, I just picked it out ... so please don’t take offence.

That’s the kind of apologist outlook that allows Cook to get away with shipping this thing. The notch is a joke, and deflections like “Well I guess you don’t notice it” or “You just get used to it” or “Do you really use your device in landscape that often” are utter deflection; it shouldn’t be there in the first place and Apple banning developers from designing their apps to hide the notch tells me that the notch is here to stay, it’s the new home button, aka the “striking visual feature”.

I’m just dismayed at the price hike also, I can’t see where Apple can justify it. Touch ID didn’t come at a premium so why should Face ID? The move to Retina Display didn’t come at a premium, so why should OLED (which other inferior phones have used for years so it’s not “new” tech).

The only real premium we seen was the £100 difference between the standard and plus models, but £300 hike on an entry level of the latest iPhone model?

The fact is people will buy it and it’ll send a message to Apple that prices starting £999 are acceptable.

I upgrade every two years on O2, I’m on a 7 now so I couldn’t take this device cycle anyway, but when you see the monthly tariff cost in the UK (£82 vs £45 for the 7) it’s just galling.

And before any trolls go on about “not being able to afford one”, I absolutely can but I can’t justify myself to do so, I don’t see where the extra £300 goes; OLED, new design, Face ID. I didn’t pay £300 more for Retina, new design or Touch ID, so ...

I always felt that the £699 entry level cost of an iPhone was expensive but value, and the iPhone X (notch aside) as good as it looks ... I just don’t see £300 of extra value.

And, for what it’s worth, Cook turning the iPhone into an Android in terms of back-to-home (swipe up gesture) sickens me. The home button was and remains iconic, but then I suppose that was Cook’s plan, use the 10th anniversary to end Steve’s iPhone legacy and give us the Tim “vision”.

I don’t know, I just don’t like the direction the iPhone is headed, it feels like an unnecessary hike to milk users of a device who happily upgrade every year anyway.
I understand, although I’m still not saying that the notch is fine, I agree with you that it’s an absolute joke and it would have never shipped under Steve Jobs. Swipe to go home is natural but they could have used 3D Touch in a lot of places.
For me the ‘do you really use your phone in landscape’ argument is baseless and quite ignorant, getting used to it is a valid point although only in portrait.
The worrying thing about the number of people buying it may also be the notch, although I am hopeful that it’ll be the number 1 complaint or suggestion in customer feedback so they work harder towards eliminating it. The price is almost guaranteed to reduce but it’s hard to be certain that it’ll reduce to the same price point as the 8 (or lower) or even the 8 Plus.

I’m still not fully fully convinced it was worth changing my 7 plus for the X, but really guys, the notch is a non-issue. 90% of the time, it’s like your nose, you see it, but you don’t at the same time. Only when you focus on it do you realize that yeah, it’s there.

I think people said the same thing about the asymmetric antenna bands of the iPhone 4 as well.

I’m sorry, I’m not being picky to troll, I’m a huge Apple fan who is genuinely concerned about the direction this product is taking; it feels utterly disjointed and the fact an Apple store colleague shouted out that he was doing a “demo on how the new phone works” said it all.

It wasn’t “a demo on the new features” it was specifically “how the new phone works”.

The beauty of an iPhone was that you could pick it up and just use it. I certainly couldn’t do that today.

When Apple introduced multi tasking, double clicking the home button to bring up the list of apps, how to scroll through them and switch or kill apps, I doubt anyone found this 'just pick up and use it'. As phones get more complex, there is a learning curve. People need to be shown the simple navigation techniques of their new hardware. I could teach someone simple navigation on the X in about 3 minutes and they're off an running. That's still a pretty slick user interface for such a complex device. Given all the X can do (or any current iPhone for that matter) the user interface is still the best and most intuitive out there. Less than 1 day and I feel completely comfortable navigating with my X. In fact I picked up my 7+ yesterday and was already having to think about how to use the home button to navigate again.

As customers around the world begin to receive an iPhone X, several early adopters have turned to the MacRumors discussion forums to unbox and share their first impressions of Apple's all-new flagship smartphone.

We've already seen iPhone X reviews from the media, but opinions shared by regular customers can provide additional insight. We've rounded up some early opinions about the iPhone X below, with very minor editing for clarity.

MacRumors forum member pudcraft shared an overwhelmingly positive review of the iPhone X. He said the device has a "very comfortable" overall size and an "absolutely beautiful" display. He added that Face ID is "really fast," but takes some time to get used to after upgrading from an older iPhone model.MacRumors forum member eoblaed said he tested Face ID while wearing a pair of polarized Maui Jim sunglasses, in conditions such as bright sunlight and partial shade while moving, and said "it worked every time."

"Same here!" replied kingneptune117. "I have a pair of Maui Jim Freight Trains. Face ID has no problems working with these sunglasses."

MacRumors user tatsumi upgraded from an iPhone 7 Plus and feels the iPhone X has "more comfortable one-handed usage," without compromising on camera quality or battery life. He said the TrueDepth camera system's sensor housing, often called the "notch," is something he "won't notice" going forward.

He added that the iPhone X's narrower screen width, equivalent to the iPhone 8, is something that he will need to get used to. MacRumors forum member Prissy likewise wrote that the iPhone X screen feels narrow.

A handful of threads have surfaced that claim the iPhone X's display is warmer with a yellower hue than previous iPhone models, even with True Tone and Night Shift turned off, and it may be more noticeable at certain viewing angles.

Apple shared a support document today that says if you look at an OLED display from an off-angle, you might notice slight shifts in color and hue. Apple said this is a characteristic of OLED display technology and is normal behavior.

In addition, there are some reports of possible isolated manufacturing defects, including a green line on one iPhone X's display and a piece of hair stuck behind the rear-facing camera lens of another. These types of issues generally pop up during any new iPhone launch, and affected customers should contact Apple.

[doublepost=1509897646][/doublepost]Phone is nice but was a bit disappointed by the physical dimensions! Can’t wait for the inevitable IPhone X”Plus”. After using a Plus so long this phone feels to small physically even if the screen is bigger.

Thank you this is my fear and why I didn't order at launch. I want to try and get to a apple store and hold it before purchasing.

I really like the feel... but, I am coming from a 6. I could never get used to the plus size. So, I have to say, I'm really appreciating the larger screen, but keeping -generally- within the size parameters of the iPhone 6, 7, and 8 size.

overwhelming positive yeah..until it crashed during the update to 11.1 and after that it stuck in recovery mode.
it gives me an error 7 when restoring through iTunes - which is not listed in Apple's webpage with the possible errors. Apparently, when I tried to restore on Windows, I got an error 1, which points to faulty hardware.

I always get the second batch of phones - this year I changed my mind - bad luck..
Now I got to wait one month now for a (another) new one.

So I assume you knew him well?
Perhaps had him over for dinner regularly?

Actually with the money I've saved by not buying Timmy Cook products I could have flown out to CA a bunch of times and probably had dinner near the Apple Campus. So thank you Timmy.

Worse is it prematurely shut down at 10%. Most other devices auto shutdown at about 3%.

Too bad money doesn't buy class or manners.

Manners and class are deftly on display, considering the original post I responded to was trolling Apple employees about the notch, which happens to be iconic and beautiful to many of us that own the phone. I absolutely MATCH whatever is shown in the original post in terms of class and manners :)
