Honestly, I was excited for push notifications, but it seems like no one was ready to support it on day one. That just means it's a lot harder for developers to use that one would like to believe.

Just got an email response from Beejive. They said they submitted the new version over a week ago and we should have it by the end of this week!

looks like apple is deliberately slowing down the introduction of push services... probably to ensure their 'push server' doesn't go down :p

real push

but does it go through mobile me which the bee app is doing or is the IM 3.0 a direct service?

e*trade mobile pro push

has anyone successfully activated notifications from e*trade? I can log in, turn on the notifications, and agree to their terms, but whenever I leave the settings page the options turn off. Has anyone started receiving updates from e*trade?

Are My Sites Up - Clarification

Hey Guys! Thanks for the shout out for Are My Sites Up!

Just to be clear, the app itself is totally free, but the version with the Push notifications (v2.5) is for premium subscribers of the service only. AND, it appears there was a little bug with them and not all users are getting Push messages properly, but the fix has already been submitted for approval.

Cheers!

IM+ is the first IM App with support for Push Notifications... and they did a price drop it was at 9.99 now stands at 5.99! :D

Thanks, I went ahead and bought it to only realize that it still does NOT have push yet. Still a good app, I've been using the Lite version.

I find it strange that an IM app wouldn't be one of the very first apps available for push notification.

All push notifications go through Apple's servers which is separate from MobileMe. Basically, the iPhone keeps a connection to Apple's servers at all time waiting for the server to push the information to the device. Hence why push is only existent on the iPhone 3.0 OSX. If it was through MobileMe or BeeJive, then it would be enabled for 2.0 as well.

well i did warn you in post no. 12 :p

arn, u need to remove that "update" that you have added... its not quite true yet

IM+ and push

FYI, IM+ does NOT support push notification via the new features on the iPhone 3.0 software. It has always done a sudo push by sending an email to you when someone sends you a message. I have the current version (3.0) and it definitely does not have this feature.

espn app

anyone know what that espn app they demoed once or twice that would be an amazing app for me with push notification

The biggest problem is that we [developers] were only allowed to start submitting 3.0 apps after the Gold Master was released so there are probably loads of apps in the approval queue for Push Notifications. Apple must have a massive backlog to get through!

Im+

let me get this straight! in order for the Instant messages to work i must really have a push server ie Mobile Me??? unless the new software from !M+ actually works and actually works like its name (instant messenger).

Damm i do miss my blackberry at-least it did everything.

Why does apple have to be behind every1 else!

Psuedo Radar Detector

Am I the only person really excited/anxious for someone to develop/release an app that keeps track of where speed traps and cops sit on highways and then sends me push notifications when my GPS (in the iPhone) says I'm getting close to one of those points. The points could be verified by multiple people "tagging" the location as a speed trap or a hot spot. I think this has HUGE potential, anyone else with me?

Someone want to develop it with me? I've never developed for iPhone, but would be 100% game to collab on this if someone wants to help.

Just wanted to make sure about BeeJive...

but is push going to be added as an update or a completely new app? I don't want to go purchase the current app in iTunes only to find out that push only comes with a new one.

Adium?? Please?

I love adium on my Mac. They really need an iPhone app (with Push of course)

Not really

No you don't have to have a mobile me account for this to work. The developers have to use the apple push servers in order to send you the messages, the subscribers do not have to pay additional for this.

I find it funny that your blackberry could do everything. I never saw any games on it like the ones I see on the iphone. Nor any real browser for that matter.

You need NOTHING special. You will get push notifications if you:

Are running 3.0
Are running an app that supports it
Have push notifcations turned on

You don't need mobile me, or a server or anything.

You don't need MobileMe. The other person posted IM+ as a mistake. On 2.0, you'd need MobileMe or any other email service that pushes in order to get notifications. With 3.0, you don't need anything.

Wow, PUSH?

....uh, so? These apps are lame. No free IM apps using push?? gimme a break - that's about the only useful thing about it. Is mobile me email even push now? ok, that's nice... but really, look at these other apps - unless you have a VERY specific need for something like "ismysiteup", then really, so what?

I just don't understand why this is such a big deal.

You would need to actually have your app running for this to work and query the gps. A push notification doesn't execute any code upon arrival—it just tells the user there's data waiting in the app which prompts the user to either act on the request (launch the app) or ok/ignore it.
