With 2 year contracts...does it even make sense to update several times a year? I would think that would piss off those with an outdated phone in 5 months.

If they updated every 6 months no one would be that upset. Actually everyone would whine just like they do every year a new one comes out. But they would still buy the new one. People just love to complain. I know I do. :D

It's terrifying how well brand psychology works on some of you people. For once can we not simply discuss something without it turning into a battle for two camps of crazed fanboys to do battle over?

I'll probably upgrade my 3G in 12 months. Any idea what improvements the next phone will have?

LOL! I gotta say, Android has taken fanboyism to new heights. You can't find an iPhone story anywhere on the Web where the comments (if available) aren't filled with "EVO RULZ!" or "ANDROID FTW!!!"

People gripe about Apple fanboys, but the Android Army takes evangelism to infinity and beyond.

I can't wait to see the astroturfing campaign MS rolls out for Windows Phone Series 7 (or whatever they're calling it this week).

EVERY post you make in macrumors is full of constantly putting down and slating the competition to the max. Do you get some sort of satisfaction to constantly put down anything that competes with Apple? Is that the only way you can enjoy your iPhone?

Yes I know there are "Fandroids" that do the same to the iPhone but two wrongs don't make a right do they?

As for me, I think the iPhone 4's hardware does look like it's on a different planet, looks amazing. But the OS still really isn't for my taste. I can understand loads of people who do.

Some people really need to grow up.

I've heard recently, here on this very forum, that the new OS will be referred to as: Windows POS S7. Go figure.

Walt Mossberg got a white iPhone 4 review unit?

Did anyone watch the video on the WSJ site? I was reading at www.thewhiteiphone4blog.blogspot.com, and it had a story about Walt Mossberg using a white iPhone 4 review unit, but it was barely shown. Does this mean some launch day availability? Why didn't he mention that he was using a white one? What's going on here?

What i don't understand is that you have in the big, mighty US of A only two carriers

for smartphones. ''We'' in Europe have many more :-D

Multitasking

I don't know if this is the place to ask this [ie right thread] but does anyone know how/if the multi-tasking works to auto manage the apps? I know Steve Jobs said "if you need a task manager, you've failed" so I want to know if the iOS will manage the apps for me, so I don't have to quit them myself. Is there a limit to how many can run at once and does it shut down the oldest ones or...

Thanks in advance

Well, I learned a new word today.. fAndroids. Nice. I do enjoy watching zealotry in action, it is so much more exciting!

Zealotry aside, I did enjoy reading the initial reviews, and I have to agree with an earlier poster that Josh's review on Engadget was probably the best... especially the video with Ed. It's not often I get goosebumps watching a tech review but as someone else with loved ones a long way away the possibilities were right there in front of you. Amazing!
This is coming from someone who used to sell phones that used the antiquated method of videocalling - up until now I thought I had seen it all.

Yep he's got himself a white one...

So have I :D hopefully. I've put down a £10 deposit on 32gb white.

I was skeptical so I phoned both stores in the area and they said for definite they will have a white iPhone 4's in stock at launch.

Fingers crossed :)

Data rate

If anyone is interested, the data rate of the iphone footage Josh posted runs at a constant 30f/s and 10.68mb/s.

Thats some sweet-ass HD video!

Coming from the person with a Windows logo in the trash can on his avatar. Sure, we believe you.

I can refute his lie with any number of my recent posts. His blanket statement was untrue and incorrect.

As for my loathing of Microsoft, I make no effort to hide it. Nor do I feel the need to on an Apple users forum. Sue me.

There is a BIG difference: he is acting that way (if it is true), on an Apple based forum. Fandroid (like you ? ;) ) are doing that in .... the same Apple based forum.
I don't think he is going to register himself on an Android based forum just to speak about his iPhone or bash the EVO.

Huge difference.

Do you know a better place to put it ? :D:D:D

We have four.

What's funny is the two that are considered "second tier" and get dismissed by AT&T users who don't know any better actually have far better and more reliable service than AT&T in many areas.

Here in a large suburb of Philadelphia T-Mobile's 3G is 3-4x faster than AT&T's so called 3G (which approaches T-Mobile EDGE speeds).

Having been a customer of 3 of the 4 (minus Verizon), I can say T-Mobile is "second tier" for a reason, at least where I live.* You must be in one of the few areas where T-Mobile has solid data.* T-Mobile was, however, my favorite carrier as far as customer service and pricing goes.* Sprint was horrific for me, customer service-wise.* And their pricing at the time wasn't great either.* The only reason you see such great deals from Sprint now is because they are desperately hurting for new subscribers (and trying to retain their current ones).
*
AT&T, as much as I don't want to say it (it's certainly not fashionable these days), has had solid service and customer service for me and my area (and the areas I've traveled to).* That said, I still despise them for their lame pricing (text messaging pricing is particularly offensive), devious tricks (An extra charge to tether another device I own existing, paid-for and now-limited data???* Gimping the iPad data plan only 2 months after launch???) and overall, uncanny ability to make Apple look dumb.
*
All carriers stink.

I received mine today and I have to agree...

FEWER bars in more places. 2 out of 3 of my first calls were dropped from my home near Tampa, FL... no exactly rural.
