rumor (noun) - a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth

If only people remembered that. Instead it seems most readers buy everything written here at truth then cry when Apple doesn't announce it. If we believed MacRumors (which all too many do), the iPhone would already have a curved glass 6" screen with 3D display and interface, RFID, NFC, wireless charging, video projector, virtual keyboard, and so much more. Every time a rumor is posted, most seem to buy it as truth and defend it as fact.

Same story ever time....

Why does Apple supposedly always have production issues. After 30 years of supply experience you would think they could handle it.

Then again, if they can launch a product with "heavy constraints" then they can build the hype.

First, because these types of issues are common the prototyping stage. That's one of the big reasons companies go through this exercise before going to production.

More importantly, though, Apple has numerous requirements that are much stricter than are typical. For example, the iPhone has ridiculously tight mechanical tolerances. That's why it feels so smooth when you slide your hand across the back, even though the back uses two different materials. Apple is also said to be extremely picky with color matching across different materials, etc. These requirements pose difficulties unique to each product, which are worked out during the prototyping and early manufacturing stages.

What's worse is when people believe crap rumors (especially ones with stupid concept renderings) and assume that's what Apple is doing.

Or attack it for the same reasons. Apple consistently releases products that are nothing like what the rumors predict, and yet, some never learn from this experience.

THE PRODUCT ISN'T WHAT WAS PROMISED!

They don't seem to get that Apple never said it was going to release curved screens or NFC. Some rumor started by someone that had proof said that.

The whole "wearable computer" fad seems like it was developed by some nerdy engineer who has no idea of anything that's fashionable or marketable. People just need to get out of this idea.

I've been saying it since these rumors started, this is going to flop.

Having read the same thing about the iPod, iPad, even the original iMac from the anonymous (and sometimes named) Internet punditry, I will gladly take that bet.

probably an iTV will be more a better product than iwatch but yes not so much profitable and best sell. But from the state of design im sure an iTV will be better than iwatch in their portfolio.

Based on absolutely no source whatsoever, I'm hereby starting a rumor that Apple has resolved all issues with the finish on the iWatch and it will be released on schedule!

Apple's purchase of Liquidmetal's production rights is looking like a waste of funds. The only use, and that was very limited, was for the SIMM ejection tool (yawn).

Thus far, the use of the stuff is always several years away according to the "experts".

Apple is a company with lots of patience. Steve Jobs implanted that mindset deep within the company. They're always thinking of things in terms of 5-10 years, not months. It may not have resulted in anything noteworthy as of now, but looking into the future it very well may be the thing that keeps Apple differentiated from competitors who are quick to mimic Apple designs/methods.

Unfortunately, people like you hear news about Apple plans that Apple would probably prefer to keep quiet, and of course have no patience and feel let down when nothing materializes immediately.

what a total and complete waste of R&D and resources stupid ********* Iwatch nonsense

No rush for this one, at all ....

I think this is one of those products where Apple could surprise a lot of people who are thinking, right now, "I have no use for one of these things!"

But it won't be anything but a costly flop if Apple rushes it to market and it reeks of a "version 1.0" product.

There's really nobody out there clamoring for a smart-watch to link with their iOS devices, and the few "edge cases" who really wanted it probably already bought one of those Pebble devices from the Kickstarter project last year.

Personally, I already dislike the basic concept of a "portable device acting as the brains for another portable/wearable device tethered to it". Even with something more extreme like Google Glass, I view it as a flaw that it requires a box to carry around that actually helps run it.

But an iWatch, priced right, physically attractive/stylish enough and implemented in a creative enough way? Yeah, I might consider it. Sounds like it could make a good gift item, even if it winds up something I wouldn't bring myself to spend my own money on.

I rather see the launch of a proper looking and working iWatch in 2015 then a half working product with lot's of issues in 2014.

My advice to apple, bring it on the market only when it's truly remarkable and ready for use with a solid battery life among with great functionalities.

Well, right. The issue is, again and again, most of the rumors prove to be far from the mark. Sure, they can be fun to talk about, but typically, they are not even close to accurate. We rarely know what Apple will actually release until, at best, a few weeks before it appears.

So in keeping with every other discussion about new products Apple is rumored to be releasing, every one of the threads on the so-called "iWatch" are full of comments from people who swear they will never buy one. This is just foolish. I refuse to even call it the "iWatch" given my memory of how the iPad was almost certainly going to be called the "iSlate" (as obviously stupid as that name would be), run OSX, and cost at least $1,000.

Prepare to be surprised, is my message. Anyone who doesn't get that, doesn't get Apple.

Hell, that's probably more reliable than Digitimes.

:D

Perhaps people like you (whatever that means) have infinite patience and unbounded optimism without grounding yourself in performance reality.

I cant believe this iWatch **** is still flying around. It seems useless as hell.

I hate to be this guy, but people said the same thing when Apple were rumoured to be making a phone.

I'm going to go out on a dangerous whim here, one which I'm sure I'll be proven wrong with (though I hope not). Apple's watch will utterly blow our minds.

even tim cook said that if they will make a watch it sure be more than that, because in our times the watch now is our iphone

Would the iWatch or any smart watch going to be useful at all?
I mean you already have your smart phone with you at all times.. why would you flip your wrist to look at your watch when you can just dig into your pocket and look at your phone with a bigger screen?

I went back to using a wristwatch when I leave the house because I don't keep my iPhone in my pocket. It's a pain to keep digging it out of my purse just to check the time, especially when I am waiting to board a plane or train and obsessively keep checking the time. And it could tell me what alerts my phone is getting so I can decide whether I should stop and dig the phone out. AND, I can listen to music while I walk handsfree. Ever try to juggle an iPhone on a plane, especially when you want to get up and go to the bathroom or have to put it somewhere when the meal comes and there's no room on the tray table anymore? Men who have pockets on their shirts and large pockets in their pants can't relate to how a woman with no shirt pockets and small or no pants pockets manages with an iPhone. Before I bought an iPhone I actually tried to figure out how I could attach it to myself like I used to do with my old little flip phone. I actually had to buy a purse just to hold my iPhone and I HATE carrying a purse but there's no lanyard hole and I would look dorky with an iPhone hanging around my neck.

I just want the iWatch to not look like a huge man's sports watch. Surely they can make it look more elegant and futuristic than the one in the picture. And please, make it without nickel in the metal so I can wear it without breaking out in a rash.

But these ones actually look quite smart!

I own a Tag Heuer watch but I still would be convinced by something like this:

Yes, those watches look MUCH better.

Grounding yourself in reality? Because assuming Apple went through all the trouble procuring an exclusive license agreement with Liquidmetal, as well as filing several patents related to liquidmetal manufacturing methods, just so they could use them on sim eject tools that only ship with factory unlocked iPhones?

Yea, totally grounded in reality. My "unbounded optimism" is due to an understanding of history. Apple invests in technologies that don't pay out until many years later. So yes, my "optimism" is grounded in reality based on words said by the company's own founder and historical behavior of Apple.

If the company responsible for inventing LiquidMetal tells the media that it would take several years before the material could be suitable for mass-market manufacturing, then we probably shouldn't expect it ready until several years later.
