Well, right. The issue is, again and again, most of the rumors prove to be far from the mark. Sure, they can be fun to talk about, but typically, they are not even close to accurate. We rarely know what Apple will actually release until, at best, a few weeks before it appears.

So in keeping with every other discussion about new products Apple is rumored to be releasing, every one of the threads on the so-called "iWatch" are full of comments from people who swear they will never buy one. This is just foolish. I refuse to even call it the "iWatch" given my memory of how the iPad was almost certainly going to be called the "iSlate" (as obviously stupid as that name would be), run OSX, and cost at least $1,000.

Prepare to be surprised, is my message. Anyone who doesn't get that, doesn't get Apple.

Very well said. To say it isn't something you'd buy now is silly. No one has a clue what will be released. It's like putting in your vote for president in 2016 right now.

Pretty sure your advise for Apple is what they've almost always done.

They weren't the first MP3 player. They took their time to make it better. They weren't the first smartphone on the market. Again they took their time. They weren't the first tablet on the market....

They weren't the first with maps either. And iOS 7 wasn't their first version of iOS. And they weren't the first with voice recognition.

Sure, and Maps now is working just fine.
Sure, and iOS 7 is better than any previous iOS so far (it could be better, but they are working on it ...).
Sure, and Siri works very well also in my native language (Italian).

So what's exactly your point ?

Btw I'm very curious about the iWatch: how Apple could convince me to buy something I don't need at all ?
Time will tell ....

Grounding yourself in reality? Because assuming Apple went through all the trouble procuring an exclusive license agreement with Liquidmetal, as well as filing several patents related to liquidmetal manufacturing methods, just so they could use them on sim eject tools that only ship with factory unlocked iPhones?

Yea, totally grounded in reality. My "unbounded optimism" is due to an understanding of history. Apple invests in technologies that don't pay out until many years later. So yes, my "optimism" is grounded in reality based on words said by the company's own founder and historical behavior of Apple.

If the company responsible for inventing LiquidMetal tells the media that it would take several years before the material could be suitable for mass-market manufacturing, then we probably shouldn't expect it ready until several years later.

Yes - and it is already 3.5 years since the agreement was consummated in the summer of 2010...

I went back to using a wristwatch when I leave the house because I don't keep my iPhone in my pocket. It's a pain to keep digging it out of my purse just to check the time, especially when I am waiting to board a plane or train and obsessively keep checking the time. And it could tell me what alerts my phone is getting so I can decide whether I should stop and dig the phone out. AND, I can listen to music while I walk handsfree. Ever try to juggle an iPhone on a plane, especially when you want to get up and go to the bathroom or have to put it somewhere when the meal comes and there's no room on the tray table anymore? Men who have pockets on their shirts and large pockets in their pants can't relate to how a woman with no shirt pockets and small or no pants pockets manages with an iPhone. Before I bought an iPhone I actually tried to figure out how I could attach it to myself like I used to do with my old little flip phone. I actually had to buy a purse just to hold my iPhone and I HATE carrying a purse but there's no lanyard hole and I would look dorky with an iPhone hanging around my neck.

It's a little different for men, but some of us can relate. We're either stuffing so much junk in our pockets that we can't get to anything in a hurry, or carrying briefcases or guy bags to hold it. You find out pretty quickly that shirt pockets are really bad places to put anything breakable or that you can't afford to lose. I tried using my iPhone as a watch for awhile, but having to dig it out of my pocket constantly to check the time became too much of a hassle, so I went back to wearing a watch. I suspect the people who think a phone obviates the need for having the time on their wrists aren't checking their phones as often as they think. I bet they are late for a lot of appointments.

Unless the iWatch uses some break-through sci-fi style technology and materials I doubt It will interest me very much.

I really hope Apple can come up with another ground-breaking product like the iPhone/iPad. I'm starting to worry they are just playing it safe and making money off endless minor incremental upgrades.

Apple took their time and released things that were quite buggy and not quite ready for prime time. That's exactly my point.

I really like the Toq but you can't buy it in the UK. What Apple really need to do is nail the battery life issue. A cheap Casio will last 3 years on a battery, smart watches 5 days max?

There are already watches that self-wind by the motion of the person wearing them. I know a smart watch would need a lot more juice than that but if Apple came up with a self-charging watch or at least one that didn't need to be physically plugged into something, that would be great in itself. Rest it on a charging pad on your nightstand and it's ready to go the next day.

It's a slow news week isn't it mac rumours. Don't worry I'm sure the larger iPhone will be on the next rumour mill soon.

I like many really don't want and don't care for an iwatch from apple. It's a bad move if there isn't a magical use for it. Like google glass it's not an essential to the apple ecosystem and will be more like the Apple TV in sales.

A watch to me is a side step into a very bad area. I hope it doesn't happen.

Sometime it happens, and they fixed most of the problems in a reasonable time frame ....
Most of the customers are satisfied by Apple ...

Looks like like the iPod nano (6th-gen)

How is this any better ? Same screen size, you can probably unclip it too, but thats the same as the nano was...

Since Apple's no longer selling the 6th-gen. nano, maybe they discontinued that for a reason, to bring out the iWatch ?

Cos, they you can wear both on your wrist... The only thing is Bluetooth LE in the iWatch (or low powered) to talk to the phone, but that's nothing, its only i minor convenience.

If the watch isn't made out of tough glass and stainless steel band than its no good. I will never buy a watch that costs a lot and it isn't made out of premium materials and high impact plastic as a smart watch doesn't mix.

I'm struggling to think what break-through tech they could adopt?

I'd be happy if it was very light and thin and just did the basics well - like tell me who's calling, real-time app updates (eg live sports scores), vibrate to location based alerts such as meetings, iTunes controller to play next track, etc.

I cant believe this iWatch **** is still flying around. It seems useless as hell.

Just like Google Glass. Basically, the day we have 100x more processing power and battery life these toys will be useful. Now they're basically less capable, wearable smartphones.

I'd want it to do the common tasks I don't want to dig out my iPhone for. Tell me the time, pay a check at a store or restaurant, show me a text message or tell me who's calling, listen to music while I'm walking or exercising, go under water, take voice notes, show calendar alerts, give me directions while I'm walking to an unfamiliar place, etc. Would be cool if Groupon knew I was near a place that had a Groupon offer and I could opt to buy it on the spot.
