Ballmeron

On the full game of Spore, you can edit your creature of course
(see the Creature Editor that's available as a free download)

Can anyone find that creature that was the 'Ballmeron' or something, basically a fat, bald, biped that had a jolly insane gait as it waddled about the stage...
very amusing!

Think it had one eye, and no heart, but an enormous bald heed!

I just bought this and started playing about half an hour ago, I have a black 80GB w/ the up-to-date software. The game froze once because I was trying to control the music, but other than that it's pretty fun. I like being able to customize my spore.

anyone know if the touch one is going to include more features? I really hope so. With a processor like that and the added control I hope its not just the ipod classic game ported with slightly better graphics.

here is a youtube video of mine crashing.

edit: I can confirm that a previous posters fix worked...if you play your own music the game will load and play.

Must be something wierd or unique (firmware, model, etc), mine loaded and I have NO personal music on our iPod, it's main purpose is for movies on the go (kids cartoons) and it ran up fine using the default music.

I just tried buying it and its no longer available for purchase!!!

Confirmed it's no longer on the iTunes store that I can see (had 3 other ppl check at work) Also the iPod version isn't available on EA Mobiles website either.

The mobile phone version (not smart phone) seems available. Since it was released early and some ppl reporting some major issues maybe they did pull it. However mine (and some other posters) seems to work fine. If I was at home I'd video it up for ya'll.

Confirmed. Cant see it at all anymore.( Had my self check at home) Must be an awesome job to be at work and browsing on the forums:D I sometimes do the same. HEHEHE

So here's there crack... Spore for the iPod Video/Classic is a little buggy (I think we've all come to that conclusion) hence the withdraw of the game from iTunes. In the meantime, for the lucky (or unlucky!) people that have downloaded it, I suggest the following steps to at least make it playable... (note, I've been using a 5th Generation iPod Video - 30Gb)

1. Play your own music (i.e. something from your Library) before you load up Spore

2. Save the game at the end of every level

3. If your own music is coming to an end (i.e. you're coming to an end of an album/playlist), then save the game before the music stops! The game will continue to the next level if your music continues to play...(weird I know...)

4. Even if the game crashes and you have to hold down "Menu + Center Circle" to reset the iPod, the last saved games should still be there.

5. Be patient with the game transitions, sometimes if it looks like it's crashed, it's actually just thinking (very slowly).

I know we shouldn't have have to put up with these workarounds. We've all paid for this game with our hard earned cash. I'm going to submit a "Report A Problem" query on my iTunes purchase and see what I get back from them... I'll provide you an update if I hear anything!

From what I've played so far (I'm on level 8) it's quite addictive and keeps you busy. Really good for the commute to work and when you're waiting around for the bus. Controls are very easy to use and frame rate is very smooth. Battery Life is a big downer... (though I've had my iPod for 3 years now). I fully charged my iPod for the morning and played about 30 mins of Spore + music in the background, battery is now 1/3 full...

Update: I've just sent the following "Report A Problem" on the iTunes Store (UK Version)

Hi,

I downloaded Spore last night and have encountered some issues while playing it on my 5th Gen iPod Video (30Gb):

1. The game does not play if I do not play my own music

2. The game very unstable if you try to save it

3. The battery life is severely affected with this game - after 30mins of gameplay, my battery life is reduced from full to 1/3.

I have to carry out the following steps to make it playable...

1. Play my own music (i.e. something from the Library) before laoding Spore

2. Save the game at the end of every level

3. If my music is coming to an end (i.e. you're coming to an end of an album/playlist), then I have to save the game before the music stops!

4. I have to reset my iPod if the game crashes and then I have to hold down "Menu + Center Circle" to reset the iPod. So far I have done this 5 times in the last day.

When I make any purchase (especially from the iTunes Store and EA), I expect it to meet the minimum standards to which I have agreed to purchase that item upon. So far, I see this as a sub standard product and I recommend that you carry out further functional and product testing before releasing an updated version. I expect that for customers that have already purchased the item to receive a free upgrade and compensation for buying an item that you thought was ready for public release. We are not your Guinea Pigs/Test Rats, please do not treat us like Microsoft treated us before... I am glad that you have withdrawn this from the iTunes Store but I would be grateful for a courtious message for all the customer that have bought the product to receive some information on what actions you are taking to resolve the issue. If no actions are taking place, I would be grateful if you would provide me with a full refund of the purchase.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to your response,

Regards,

Sil-Mon Li

Dear Sil-Mon,

I understand that you're having issues with your purchased application "Spore". I can see how it would be very frustrating to have the iPod and game not function properly, and I will be happy to address your concern for today.

I will be happy to refund your purchase of "Spore" in the meantime. Currently, the order containing this item is processing. Your request is flagged for follow-up and I will contact you once I have more information about your order. Please note that processing can take up to five business days from the date of purchase. I went to but it and now it says...

"This is not availiable in the U.S. store."

...shakes fist.

So it's the latest NetShare 'I Am Rich' application. The "Get-it-while-you-can" plan from Apple. *shakes head in disbelief* What are you guys doing at Apple?! lol

So here's there crack...

Don't you mean Craic? ;)

I've just sent the following "Report A Problem" on the iTunes Store (UK Version)

I wasn't aware of that function, I rarely use iTunes to buy my music or anything else with - but I did leave a similar message as a review... looks like they're getting the message though...

They're not employing enough quality control people, that's what... Talk about cutting corners...

On a different spore-related subject... have any of you seen about the DRM EA is bundling with Spore? Apparently it limits you to three installations?! I still play 10 year old games from time to time.... it's a complete joke! I wonder if the DRM would work on the Mac version which is just a Cider port... anyone heard anything about this?

That's bizarre - I was guessing games for the iPod Classic were dead.

I'm thinking possible zombies here. It may well be that the whole franchise was delayed, and this one was waiting all along.

That IS odd! I had to read twice before I realized this it not the Touch/iPhone.

But I guess even if Apple stopped making Classics/Nanos today, there are still a TON of them out there to buy games for--plus a ton of 5th gens.

But it's not that reassuring in that case as that could mean that there might not be any follow-up device that can run it, unless you wanted to pay again to play it on a different kind of device. As it is, I think the 6G iPods couldn't play games originally made for 5 and 5.5G models, if you bought a game for use on 5 and 5.5G before 6G was out, then the 6G iPod couldn't play it. Maybe my trepidation would be eased if they offered an emulator for the touch devices.

am i the only person that cant find this ANYWHERE on the itunes store? even the link is dead?

Spore for the iPod Classic/Video was available on the iTunes Store on Monday (26th Aug) for a few hours (I managed to download it at 23.40 GMT). The next day EA/Apple removed it from the iTunes Store, probably of all the said problems on this thread...

It was announced that Spore would use SecuRom. Now for us Mac users unsure what that means since SecuRom from what I know is a windows thing. However, Spore DOES not run if you've reached your max installations which is 3. I can confirm this:

1. It will NOT run without an active internet connection (possibly to check for installation count)
2. It will NOT run if you've exceeded your installation count (will attach screenshot when I can)

picture.png

It doesn't appear to install anything funky as it does with Windows (another good reason to switch) but the requirement of an active internet connection does the job for checking valid installation.

Personally I'm fine with it as long as the means to request the installation count is an easy one. I just contacted EA to reset mine.

Also the ability to install it on 3 totally different computers and none requiring the disk to run is a plus. Which means I can have it on my iMac, MB, and the kids iMac. Down side is if for any reason you have to reinstall it triggers the exceeding installation count.

Yes I know all the pro's and con's to securom and I don't agree with it at all except they do have to right to protect their investment. securom might not be the correct answer but it's what they used.

Oh yah, and 10 year old games didn't have the copy protection they have these days, plus most companies were ignorant as to what ppl can do after the software was released to crack it so that really doesn't add to your point.

Looks like it has been removed from the iTunes Store...

Doesn't seem to be available in the US anymore.

can't find it myself either :(

This all has already been confirmed if you read the above posts.
