It doesn't appear to install anything funky as it does with Windows (another good reason to switch) but the requirement of an active internet connection does the job for checking valid installation.
Where are you getting your info from, just out of interest? Have you got a copy already?! I thought it was out next month...
...Personally I'm fine with it as long as the means to request the installation count is an easy one. I just contacted EA to reset mine...
Did they reset it yet though?
...Down side is if for any reason you have to reinstall it triggers the exceeding installation count...
And what exactly triggers it? What if I add some RAM to my MacBook?
Oh yah, and 10 year old games didn't have the copy protection they have these days, plus most companies were ignorant as to what ppl can do after the software was released to crack it so that really doesn't add to your point.
The point I was trying to make was that I would quite like to play Spore in 10 years time...

Creature Creator carries the same SecuRom as the actual game will. There's a wiki about SecuRom v7 as well as EA has posted an FAQ on it as well.

Yep, already reset and I'm back to normal

Google the wiki on SecuRom but yes it basically detects hardware changes (at least that's the documented Windows version of SecuRom) and I would assume since no other services were installed that I can detect on my Macs, that adding more Ram might not trigger it although when it goes online during start up it might send a 'hardware' code much like Alcohol 120 does, and potentially invalidate it.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. How would it stop you?

OK, well I'm glad they reset it - now I see how it might not affect me playing it in 10 years time. But they better have to have someone sitting there in 10 years incase I want my code reset!! :p

Apple as issued an update to Spore. The send me an email to use the "Store/Check for purchases ..." menu item, which triggered the download of the new version.

You might have to complain to them first.

I didn't have time to test it much, but it didn't crash on start, even if there is no music playing. I also played two levels without crashing, which is a good sign.
