I would suggest trying to call at&t - read the very end of my 1st post and you'll see what I had to do because it didn't initially work for me either.

Can I have an online rep change it for me? Like when I log into OLAM and have the chat box come up.

One thing that I see that can be an issue is when you log into OLAM and under data usage history it has all the data plans listed under there that I had previously had under this billing cycle, which was the 2GB iPhone data plan, wouldn't that be a red flag to the person that I ask for unlimited data plan for the iPhone?

This is what I wondered, too. But he saw the $30 unlimited data plan for the DUMB phone and must have thought I had it because I had the $30 unlimited for the smart phone.

I'm not sure if that's the case, and if it was I was lucky. In fact he mighta known what I was trying to do, but either way it worked. So call them (I wouldn't do the chat, because it sounds like they are more technologically advanced and are linked into your online account more).

I just got off the phone and finished with the steps. I asked the CS rep if he needed the sim number and he said no if I'm using the same sim. I said okay but now I'm wondering if he meant the sim from the old phone? I didn't even think about this at the time because it's an old phone without a sim card. I'm not sitting on the phone again with a long queue so I figured I post here and maybe get a response faster :p

It failed, was told I only have 200mb or 2GB option and there was no way of trying to get unlimited back onto the account.

So I am still waiting for it to switch it's almost been 8 hours now, I guess if nothing happens by tonight I will go ahead and go back to the 2GB data plan.

Hey, yeah as long as you gave the sim # from the iPhone, you're set. It would be bad if you gave the sim of the old phone, as the whole point is you're tricking at&t's system into thinking you're on a dumb phone when in reality you're still using your iPhone with the micro sim.

If you have any problems in 2-4 hours please feel free to post back :) I had to call at&t to actually get this to work. Also make sure you make a couple calls.

Hmm you could always try 2 things:

Re-do the switching process.

OR,

Call at&t, be angry (but be nice to the rep, just say you're angry at at&t and not him/her personally - this works very well), and say you had unlimited before. Tell them you had it, switched to your old phone, but wanted to switch back. Be assertive, ask to speak to a supervisor if all else fails.

There was no sim in my old phone so I didn't think of it when he said he didn't need the sim #. Is it possible that the old sim # is in the system and he activated that? This is an old lg shine my girlfriend used a year ago on her own account.

Did you tell him that you wanted to use the sim from the iphone in your old phone? Remember in the instructions I said to tell the rep you have an adapter. If you followed the instructions verbatim, it *should* work.

Nope. Fail! Doh... He was pretty clueless from the start and he was a bit confused about the plan I wanted and what I wanted to do. When I asked him if he needed the sim # he said he didn't if I was using the same sim card. I figured he didn't even know about microsim/sim difference and he meant my iphone sim card. I should get through to AT&T again in the next 15-20 minutes so I guess we'll see what happened.

No you should be set. I'm 95% sure they asked me the sim of iphone just to confirm it. Not sure though.

So I ended up not needing to do this, thankfully. My story: Purchased 3GS last year, sisters got stolen so I gave her mine. Used MyTouch 3G/Nexus ONE, but they had to change my data plan to the right one (unlimited still). Went to AT&T, they refused to change my data plan to iPhone Unlimited because my phones weren't compatible with their list of smartphones? Called (should have done this in the first place) and they agreed. Finally have unlimited back!

If he switched sims on you then your other sim would be deactive. If you are still able to call using your iPhone 4 on that number/line it means that is the active sim on your line at the moment.

You're right. It was the iphone sim card and it is still active/working. I guess now it's just a waiting games. Thanks guys/gals. I'll report back soon.

Trying to get this to work. Rep told me that they only have a 15 dollar unlimited plan for my phone. Any ideas?

Goodluck, maybe you'll have better luck than myself. I'm going on waiting 9 hours on my second attempt. First attempt waited 1 entire day and got nothing.

Cancel your messaging plan first. That's why it's not showing up, because you have a messaging plan currently enabled. Please read the guide step by step!

I had the messaging plan completley removed but still did not show up. Ill try calling back again and see what they have. I was asking if the dumb phone had to be 3g capable or not.

The dumb phone cannot be 3g capable otherwise it won't work.

In my case, I received 2 SMSs the moment I dialed first time from iPhone after dumb phone was activated. Looked at the account online right away and it showed 3G unlimited. I didn't have to wait at all.

The only thing was different from the instructions in what I did, is that the AT&T rep added wrong dumb phone plan, and I had to remove it later from OLAM. But I could not add the correct dumb plan since it was not in the list (actually I didn't have any data plans listed at all). So I switched the sim card to a dumb phone and called second time to ask to add unlimited text and data for dumb phones. This time correct plan was added. I switched the sim back to iPhone, and dialed a number, and while the phone was ringing 2 messages arrived that my plan was switched.

Thank you for posting the instructions!

Thanks OP.. I was able to get it to work, following your directions exactly.. Had a bit of trouble with CS, she didn't want me to keep the micro sim. But I was able to make it through the process..

Did not work. Ended up switching back to my 2gb month plan and filed a case with CS to have unlimited turned back on

Congrats ;) Vote in the poll please too then.

And thank gadget because I just typed up what he was so generous to share.
