i have MMS working now. I called ATT tech support and tried a few things. one rep reset something with my plan causing my 3G to stop working and me having to reset network settings. This did not work.

What ended up working (I had to call from another phone though, not my iphone), was them changing something on their end to make sure it detects the correct phone. It turned out that even though they had the correct IMEI on file and I had the correct plan, there was still something showing me as having the old iPhone. The rep changed this and my phone started working after a quick restart.

all is good now!

Still no text messages and no unlimited iPhone data plan. Still shows the iPhone on the account and I have the $30 Messaging & Data Unlimited: Quick Messaging/Basic Phones attached to my account. Is that the correct one? It's been 24 hours, should I keep waiting or try again?

you could try what I did and do a technical support live chat and just tell them you want to update your IMEI. If they tell you that you will need to update to a new plan you may want to just close the window. My rep told me I am not eligible for the unlimited data plan and I had it anyway when I checked after immediately exiting the chat at that point.

Let me know how it goes

Do I give them the IMEI of the dumb phone again or my iPhone?

if you already did the dumbphone thing and have your sim card in the iphone simply waiting for the switch, give them the IMEI of the iPhone, telling them that you want to switch the one they have on file. If they ask you about a data plan, tell them you want the unlimited one. Again, at this point they told me I am not eligible and then I just closed the window and had it set anyway.

I started a chat and said I wanted to change to the dumb phone again but they said I had to call. So I called and was told the Nokia is still the phone shown on my account. So I guess the website hasn't updated yet. I've used my iPhone many times. Not sure what to do next besides wait.

you should be able to easily change the phone you have on file with AT&T manually so I'm not sure why they wouldn't just do it. That said, I think it will update manually but it seems that it may take up to a week (I got tired of waiting after 3 days). In the meantime, do you have data service working on the iphone?

No, I can't access any data from my iPhone except for over WiFi.

Edit: I just did a chat with tech support again and they wanted my IMEI but said I had to select a data plan to switch back to my iPhone.

you couldnt tell them you wanted the unlimited plan?

Here is how mine went down, paraphrased:
me: i want to change the IMEI tied to my phone number
them: what is the IMEI?
me: (gives IMEI)
them: ok, you will need an eligible data plan
me: i want to upgrade to the 3G unlimited data plan
them: this account is not eligible for the unlimited data plan
*Then I exited immediately just in case they were about to put me on a limited plan so I could try again later. But when I checked my OLAM I saw that i had 3G Iphone Data and my 2G unlimited plan disappeared so it worked after all.

So it seems like they changed my IMEI before trying to change the plan. They were trying to do it in one step for you?

Yes, the response was "What is your iPhone's IMEI number and I will put it and your data plan on. Which data plan do you want"

and then they posted the auto responses with the data plan info.

Anyone had any luck just calling up and negotiating with executive customer care? I was able to get the moon from sprint when I called executive customer care directly.

Orlandu, If i were you I would try it a few more times. Otherwise it will probably update on its own. Some people waited up to a week it seems. In the meantime you can try unlock.co.nz to get your 3G working

Still nothing regarding the texts. I tried chatting again and gave them my IMEI but same results, they wanted to put me on a limited plan before switching the IMEI.

I did the unlockit.co.nz site from home wifi and my data is working now. What exactly does this do?

edit: my connection seems to be EDGE only since that's the only data plan tied to my account right now.

Well, I finally got the text last night. It said I have to select a comparable data plan for my iPhone. When I check my OLAM, it shows Data Plan for iPhone and under the Data column it says Unlimited. The description says "Data Plan for iPhone. Automatically added for customers using iPhone without required Data Plan"

There's another one right under it that says the same thing but has a different description, "Data Plan for iPhone includes unlimited data in the U.S. Access rich HTML email and desktop-level web browsing, as well as Visual Voicemail to listen to voicemail messages in any order you choose."

Both say unlimited though. So I'm fine with being on the default one for now. So I will check "Worked for me" on the vote!

35 pages .... holy crap!

I have a question...
If you are upgrading a phone .... I have the LG vu CU920 or something like that .... with a $30/month unlimited data plan ..... can I opt to keep that data plan? o_0

If that phone is considered a "smart phone" I'm pretty sure you can keep the unlimited plan.

I have gone through the steps. I called 10-23 late evening. No texts, no email. I am listed as the correct plan--second CSR. I have turned phone off, on. Put sim in Nokia, called, texted and sent MMSs. I have set up internet per help.benm and now have slow internet. The speed went from a high of 5.68 Mps/1.02Mps to a high of 2.13Mbps/0.66Mbps. I use wifi at work and at home, so i'm going to see how this plays out. I also use more texts than web so I would be happy if nothing changed. (yeah, I know it will)

First text came through. Now things are getting interesting. :) Second text. And unlimited data, and $20 messaging package. Time to vote.

Has anyone had any luck using OLAM to switch to the "regular" unlimited data plan vice the "automatically added" unlimited data plan? There are a few posts that sugest that the IMEI will eventually update automatically allowing you to change to the regular unlimited plan.

Looks like the loophole was closed.

On a coworker's phone I followed the method.

Today it got a text saying it required an iPhone data plan and an email saying a data plan was added. OLAM showed the 2GB data plan.

AT&T can screw off and die. The coworker will be sending the phone back.

Might have just been unlucky. Are you sure you had the Data Unlimited: Quick Messaging/Basic Phone on your account? You have to have this plan for the switch to work, its $30 for unlimited data and text for non-smart phones (basically non-Blackberry/iPhone). You can always try again.

I am still getting fairly slow speeds though, I wonder if thats from using unlockit.co.nz when I was on the old data plan. Are there different APN settings for EDGE / 3G or something? I don't remember my speeds being this slow before on the limited plan.

Edit: well, I just switched off 3G and ran the Speedtest.net app on just EDGE and it was slower. I got 47 kbps down and 40 kbps up. Turning 3G back on, I got 690 kpbs down and 1739 kbps up... why is my up faster? I want down to be that fast, lol.

loop hole not closed. I got in this A.M.
3g speed now at 2.45Mbps/1.66Mbps

Are you still on the default plan or could you switch to the normal iphone data plan? My IMEI must not have updated just yet since I can't change the plan I'm on from the default.

i did it the iphone 2g way and when i got switched i was not put on a second "default" data plan, i was put on the regular looking one and it seems to be fine (i am not seeing 2 plans like some people are)
