Hmm... I wonder why it's not working for the second line....I might have to call AT&T and switch the IMEI of the second line to another dumb phone...

Just so everyone knows my two lines I just signed up still work perfectly with all data apps. I am using the $30 data and text plan for standard phone. Weird, I wonder if my process glitched out the system.

Yea, my two lines worked with the data plan for non-smart phones too but I just wanted to get them switched over to the unlimited plans so that you actually have the unlimited plan and not a plan that AT&T can make you switch from.

I've switched my phones plan and everything (yesterday morning, and I'm still waiting on texts) just like the directions said, but I have yet to have any luck with the help.benm.at trick.

Can anyone that managed to get that to work explain to me what they did. I get all the way to the page where you select the carrier and it won't let me download the configuration. I'm using an iPhone 4 on 4.01.

gave the IEMI number for the dumb phone last Wednesday it is now Sunday and i haven't received any text messages. i cannot use any data on my phone. since i have wifi pretty much everywhere ill continue to wait it out at least for a full week then im giving up. anyone with an iphone 4 get this to work recently?

Gave my imei on Monday 10.11 and still never received the 2 text messages, I don't think I will get them at all. :(

Well after about 24 hrs i finally received the text message today stating that my iPhone requires the data plan to work and has been automatically placed on the correct plan. I logged into OLAM and there it is on both of my lines!!

need some help!

hey guys, need some advice because this doesn't seem to have worked 100% for me.

I am a new AT&T customer and we ordered 2 iphone 4's for a family plan on the AT&T website for home activation.

I bought a sim card adapter and after activating one of the Iphone 4's (I am only trying to do this for one of them), put it in an old Iphone 2g that I restored. I actually tried to activate the Iphone 2g first but it was not letting me do it online because the plan was probably already set to a 3G plan.

Once I did activate the 2G, I got the whole "more time is required for activated" and then eventually a "activation failed" email. I called AT&T the next morning with the IMEI for the 2G and it started working perfectly.

That night, I put the sim card back into the Iphone 4 and it seemed to be working perfectly. I actually have 3G service working as well. The only thing that does not work is picture messaging (just keeps failing with the exclamation point). My account still shows the 20$ unlimited data + 200 text plan. Although I can see the 30$ unlimited plan now, I get the F902 error.

I did this on Friday night and it is now Sunday night. I have not gotten any text messages or emails from AT&T and am not sure if I should keep waiting or call them and tell them I switched back (and the new IMEI?), or what. It seems like most people received their switch text messages within a few hours or a day.

Also, if it matters, we have unlimited text for family set up. Could that somehow be conflicting with anything? (I'm surprised they didn't say anything about it when changing me to a data plan with 200 texts built in).

Thanks for reading guys, looking for any advice as to what my next step should be.

GREAT NEWS! I called in today feeling defeated and was preparing to switch my dumbphone plan back to my normal iPhone plan and call it quits but then my CSR asked me if I was on a limited or unlimited data plan and I managed to have him set me up on an iPhone unlimited data plan without any hoops or text messages (I didn't receive either text). This is very similar to the situation that original poster had. Don't rule out the fact that your CSR is able to switch you to a unlimited plan if you ask or if they offer. I wish everyone the best of luck with setting up their accounts. :)

has calling in like that worked for other people?

Basically, I've only been an AT&T customer a total of roughly 5 days and am concerned that the rep would see that and convert me to a limited data plan. (I am currently using an Iphone 4 with the 20$ unlimited data+200 text plan after swapping sim cards - have not received any texts from AT&T and am unable to send MMS)

That's great news... The unlimited option is only showing up on one of my lines and I was going to call in today to switch mine back and my wife will get the 2 GB option since she doesn't really stream much. Let's hope I can get it on both lines as well.

All you would have to do is call AT&T and ask them to verify that they have the correct IMEI number for your iP4. Do NOT have them change anything on your account, only the IMEI number. Tell the CSR thanks and hang up. Log into your OLAM. You should be able to select the $30 unlimited plan now.

Update on my situation: I did the live technical support chat and told the rep that I simply want to update my IMEI. After updating it they told me I need to upgrade my data plan to an Iphone 4 plan. I told them I want the 30$ unlimited plan. At this point the rep said that this plan is not available for my account. Hoping I did not get locked into a limited plan, I immediately exited out of the live chat. Looking at my account info now shows the 30$ unlimited plan anyway

My only issue is that MMS still does not work. Does anyone have a solution for this? It just keeps failing.

edit: i just did another live chat to see if i was stuck in some limbo state (since MMS does not work).
the rep confirmed my iphone 4 IMEI, that I have MMS enabled, and that I have the unlimited data plan. It didn't seem like there was anything else that could be done without me divulging more information about switching from the 2g plan, etc. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks!

wow so it took you a long time to get the texts as well. I was concerned so I did it manually. Does sending MMS work for you?

I changed IMEI's via live chat to a Motorola RAZR phone and have been switched to the $30 Unlimited Data and Unlimited Text. Online, my account shows the $30 unlimited data and unlimited text for dumbphones plan but the website still shows that I am using an iPhone. Is this what happened for everyone else?

I should get switched to an unlimited iphone plan soon hopefully.

yeah thats what happened to me.. thats fine. just wait on it and dont touch it now.. its the patience game now!

Both phones finally show unlimited. I called the CSR and she supposedly switched the IMEIs but I still can't select the second unlimited data plan. Also, the weird thing is that the rep is showing a motorola razr when I give her the IMEI of my iPhone. I will try to call again tomorrow. Anybody out there who didn't select the second unlimited data plan and still had it the next month? Does the second one get selected automatically?

I called to change my IMEI number before selecting the second unlimited option in OLAM. the service rep actually asked me if i wanted unlimited data and added it for me

Starting the process now, I bought a Nokia 2320 for a dumb phone since I had read someone else had success using it. Calling AT&T right now. I'll let you know if this works for me.

Edit: Just got off the phone, selected $30 unlimited messaging/data plan. Asked about SIM but said I was using my iPhone's. Took all of 5 minutes.

This was the post I was referring to about the Nokia. Hopefully it works for me this easily.

The process was extremely easy. I pretty much followed the directions from the first post exactly. I called the CSR and asked him to activate my Nokia 2320 Dumb Phone from my iPhone. He simply asked for the IMEI number from
the dumb phone and the SIM card # from my iPhone. When he realized I switched from a high end smartphone to a extremely low end dumb phone he actually made a joke about what an expensive paper weight my iphone was going to be. lol. He really had no idea what my intentions were. He put me on hold for a few minutes and came back to tell me i was all set. I then asked him to add the $30 unlimited data package and it took him awhile to find it but he was happy to add it. You must add the unlimited $30 data plan (with text, picture, web) and NOT the $10 unlimited data plan (data only) or it will not work. He insisted to call me to make sure my newly activated Nokia would work but I told him that it was unneccessary. Once we hung up, I popped in my sim card and turned on my iPhone and made a call. I never even opened the Nokia that I bought at radioshack because
IMEI # was actually listed under the box. I got my texts about 10 hrs later and i was offically on a unlimited data plan for the iPhone! I was on the phone with the CSR no more than 10 minutes.

picture messaging does not work!

For everyone who has done this: Does picture messaging work for you? I did this using the iPhone 2G method (a few posts up), and no matter what I do I cannot send or receive picture messages (fails when trying to send - red exclamation point, and just don't receive anything if someone else sends me one).

I have tried:
-connecting/syncing to iTunes
-restarting/resetting the phone
-resetting phone settings
-resetting network settings
-turning off messaging and turning it back on.
-using unlock.co.nz (thought maybe this would kick it into working)

My account seems to be correctly showing the 30$ iPhone Data Plan, but picture messaging will just not work.
I also did 2 separate live chats with AT&T and confirmed the following with both reps:
-My iPhone 4 IMEI is correct
-I have unlimited data
-Picture messaging is enabled

Does it work for you guys and/or does anyone have any idea why mine doesn't work? Thanks!

almost one week later...

i called last Wednesday 10/13/2010 and put a non smart phone on my plan. i waited and waited. last night i got the first text message from att; 6 hours later i got the second. i logged into my OLAM and did not see the option for unlimited. i waited until noon today and got the same two text messages from att but from a different number. i logged into my OLAM only to see the unlimited non smart phone plan missing with no option for unlimited iphone. shortly after i lost 3g data on my phone ( i was able to use it because i used the help.benm.at trick). i called att and the first guy told me i wasnt eligible for unlimited so i told him i was going to stay on the non smart phone and i hung up. i called back an hour later and got a very friendly lady who overrode the setting and gave me unlimited data. the trick didn't work for me but after being polite i was able to convince a lady to give me unlimited data. woohoo!!!!

edit: during my non smart phone time i got data using the help.benm.at trick and was able to get txt and MMS messages no problem but no visual voice mail. now i have unlimited data and everything works perfect including visual voice mail and MMS.

i thought the benm.at trick was just to enable tethering? Is it just the same as unlock.co.nz? still no mms by the way :-/
