Why? They would have done just what they promised. No more, but no less.

Your amount of patience is extraordinary and commendable. But I still have to laugh. I guess some reason waiting four years for an updated Mini or MacBook Air brings complaints and criticism, but for some reason a promised product or hyped feature at a Keynote get's all the time and excuses it needs. Go figure.

Wow....it's like talking to a chair. Did Apple ever say they would release an updated Mini or MacBook Air within a particular timeframe?? No? See, that alone differentiates it from THIS situation, where Apple has said ECG was coming this year, and we are STILL in the timeframe in which they said it would be released.

Is this sinking in yet?? Or do you have more horrible analogies for us?

If someone said they owed you money and would pay you back before the end of the year but then waited until December 31 to repay you wouldn’t you be a little upset or frustrated?

Imagine you got together with a group of people to loan someone money, and the deadline to pay the money back was the end of the year. It would be pretty frustrating if someone in the group kept calling you and complaining:

He hasn’t paid us back yet!
“Well it’s not the end of the year. Let’s wait until the end of the year.”
He never said by the end of the year. Stop being an apologist.
“Yes he did. Here’s a video where he said so in front of the world.”
That’s no excuse. You’re just blindly following him.
"I did see it in writing too, so my eyesight must be OK."
"You're being too patient!"
"With your complaints, or the guy who still has over a month to pay us back?"

Yes to all, but this is an interesting situation. No one ever promised an updated Mini or MBA. Airpower was touted but it was all in the future. The different thing about this is that we have a product that is for sale with hardware elements that will do the promised job, and we have a promised deadline. So it will be interesting to see. Personally I have gotten sorta Zen about this but no one else is under any obligation to feel that way - and I understand if they don't.

It is better to offer no excuse than a bad one. The trouble with excuses is that they become inevitably difficult to believe after they’ve been used a couple of times.

Well well looks like it’s about to drop and you can stop your bitching

I can appreciate some don’t care about ECG support and have no real vested interest other than to support Apple. Others like me see it a bit different.

My brother died at 25 due to heart related issues and my mom had a stoke 3 years ago. With a murmur I need to keep an eye on my heart. When Apple announced the Apple Watch with ECG support it was a big deal to me.

So I apologize if some feel I was bitchin... I know Apple fans don’t like negative comments about Apple, but there is always more than one side to a story.

No that’s not the case at all and if Apple lied and we didn’t get it with in the time limit they said I would back you fully. You chooose to buy it knowing it would not be released right away. This was your choice not apples. Except the responsibility.

Not when they’re keeping their promise.

Very sorry to hear that. Health issues, especially those that run in the family, can definitely weigh on one's conscience and cause you to be anxious if that's the right term for it. To be fair to others in this thread though, your prior posts came off as though you were just angry Apple hadn't released it yet without really giving any particular reason as to why you were angry other than you didn't have it. This post sheds light on your discontent, and I do think you have a valid reason to be impatient with waiting for it, but that doesn't negate the fact that Apple is still within the timeframe they told us that it would release. With medical technology this delicate, and putting themselves in a situation where they absolutely have to get this right, I'd rather them get it right than get it right now.

Per today's headlines, it appears that it's releasing sooner rather than later, and that's good news for folks like you and I who get anxious about our health. Hopefully when it does see release, it's exactly what you're hoping for in terms of function and in the results it spits back.

Tough crowd here.

I have always "Accepted" responsibility. Like the OP I was airing my frustrations and agreeing with the theme of this thread. No one asked for the Apple timekeepers to offer their opinions.

I obviously missed the part of the keynote where they announced the ECG feature would be available later this year. I apologized, explained the reason for my anticipation, but still no compassion, no understanding, just criticism.

Thanks for showing some understanding. Maybe I should have explained the reason behind my impatience from the get go, would have alleviated some of the comments from all these cheerful people. All and all I am pretty healthy but this added feature would be fantastic and just another tool to keep me going into old age.

FWIW, I was at the doctor a while back and they ran vitals. I compared what the doctor was reading to the heart monitor on my watch. My watch was within one beat of their equipment. Not bad for a consumer product.

I've had similar experiences with my doctor. He actually perked up when I told him I had been monitoring my weekly/monthly heart rate patterns of my Apple Watch recordings. He asked to see those charts and it led to a lengthier discussion. My resting heart rate was dropping over the span of a few months, actually dipping into the 40's, so I told him I had been far more active in exercise (six times per week, hour a day) and we agreed the decrease was due to my increase in activity. Over the last couple of months, I have been slacking on my exercise consistency, and that resting rate is gradually creeping back up, go figure. Pretty cool to see a doctor who trusts and is actively engaged in what this little wearable records.

I have high blood pressure. Every family member on my dad's side has battled it, and of course, that's related to the heart. Needless to say, I'm anxiously waiting for this as well.

I really don't think I could have said anything better than this. Kudos to you for the post @Cryates.

@OLDGUYWITHAHIFI Very sorry to hear of your loss. Here's wishing you good health and happy holidays.

I agree with @gwhizkids

Even if it comes a bit late, that’s fine for me, I want it to be right, not right now.

If you absolutely must have the ECG feature right now, you should proceed to see a doctor for a standard ECG. That’s what’s going to happen if you reprt to your doctor that your Apple Watch ECG gavea notification.

It’s clear from the description that the Watch ECG function is not intended to replace a multi-lead ECG examination, and that means that because the Watch hasn’t given an alert, you are ‘healthy’.

The tone of many posts is almost as if people expect the Watch to replace some part of regular health monitoring by a professional. I believe that this is not so.
I realize what you're saying but I have A-Fib and I'm monitored by a cardiologist three times a year. I'm on blood thinners (Eliquist) and a beta blocker. The ECG function on the watch is to let me know if I may be in an A-Fib condition, and if it happens to many time to make an appointment with the cardiologist to determine if a modification of my medication or a possible medical procedure is warranted.

On launch day I ordered my Apple watch series 4 44mm SS and was so excited that "later in the year" ECG will be available. Every 6 month's I have a doctor appointment (check up) and this time it falls around the first week of December and this year my doctor will give me a EKG exam and what better way to first try out Apple's ECG and then try and compare it with my Doctor's exam....BUT so far NO ECG from apple and its beginning to piss me off!!

Boohoo.

I certainly sympathize with your situation (and that of @OLDGUYWITHAHIFI ). But, to be fair to Apple, they have announced a new product that they said would be ready "later this year", i.e., 2018. Undoubtedly, having this product now would be of help to many people. But the point here is: Apple said a product would be delivered at some unspecified time in 2018. 2018 is still the year we are in. Apple, therefore, has not broken trust with anyone.

Virtually no other company would be held to this standard being tossed about here: a promise of "later in the year" means "It should be out now because I want/need it now". Apple went out of their way to set expectations on this: it would be released sometime before the end of 2018. They did this likely because they don't necessarily control all of the factors going into the release date. I'm sure they would have released it on the date the keynote was delivered if they could have.

I suspect we're going to see this soon, possibly as early as today, but almost certainly by the 2nd week in December. And I hope it is a help to you guys and to the many others who have purchased this watch.

Just FYI, I use the Kardia device (single lead ECG on my iPhone) and also have an implanted defibrillator. During an interrogation of my device we compared the Karida ECG with one being supplied by my ICD. They were identical. Device Tech was impressed. I suspect the the Watch will use the same basic technology and will compare it to my ICD at my next interrogation (assuming it is released by then).

I hear you but come January 1, 2019 and Apple has NOT released the functionally of the ECG function in the United States I would feel that a class action lawsuit will be warranted.

I was with you through the first part of your post. Then I saw "class action lawsuit." You lost me there. I hate when people suggest that as a solution to anything.

Feeling mutual for people like you that feel Apple can do no wrong.
