Just came to update that switching the region on Settings doesn’t work. I guess it’s tied to Apple ID.

I can also confirm that switching the region on Settings (on both Apple Watch and iPhone), followed by reboots, does not unlock the ECG feature. So I guess it's really tied to Apple ID - and no chance I can just quickly change that to try out the feature. Too bad.

Anyone outside the US have a US Apple ID? I have one but I find myself locked out from it (probably because I entered the wrong password too many times lol)

Can’t be bothered to go to all the hassle of unlocking it to find it makes no difference anyway.

No it’s not tied to Apple ID. It’s tied to device location.

Hmmmm shame for people outside the UK. Guess 9to5Mac were wrong by stating that you could just change the region in the Apple Watch app.

Disappointing. After all al Apple needs to do is make a disclaimer covering themselves.

Are you sure of that? How did you verify it?

This would mean that legitimate American customers going on vacation abroad won't be able to use it?

I just spoke to an American who is currently abroad. He’s bought his Apple Watch in the States but the ECG app is nowhere to be found. It’s geo-location based.

I bought my S4 in USA, I’m back in Europe. I’ve set the region to US, updated and ECG works. I’ve set it again to my EU country and still works. I guess it is locked based on the model, a non US model will not work until approved by local health authorities.

Well changing region on watch and iPhone doesn’t bring up the ecg. I do t understuwhy Apple needs any kind of regulatory approval? They clearly state that the Apple Watch isn’t a medical device.

Apple is bowing to the other country's wants. Until they approve, they will hold it back. Even with all the warnings, Apple wants no liability and there are people who will sue you for nothing these days.

We doing my first ECK Apple gave me multiple warnings, like 5-6 of them. I suggest your country has told them not to release until it approves it.

I wonder what the eBay market will be of those buying imports now lol

Love all the naysayers who said they wouldn’t do it this year!!

How many times have you all used the app so far??

So you're saying regardless of the type of AFib(or just AFib like you say) it can always be detected when hooked to an EKG machine?
It can always be detected only when it's happening, which is not all of the time.

This is why other countries haven't approved it. Most people don't have atrial fibrillation. It may misdiagnose it and also feed into people who have hypochondriac tendencies. It may also lead people into a false sense of security that they don't have afib if their watch says that they don't.

I’m on the fence about purchasing a series 4. I have a gold aluminum series 0 with heavy putting corrosion bought back in 2016 for $320 usd. It is out of warranty so I doubt Apple will replace it even though it’s so corroded.

This has me looking st stainless steel to avoid future potential corrosion. The price has me holding back because the watch won’t get updates after a few years and is way more than the cost of the series 0 I purchased that can’t get any more updates.

If I do buy at that price I’d like ecg option to work but I am outside of the US. If I buy the model on Apple.com USA site that will guarantee the ecg feature is unlocked?

Very nicely done interface. Gazooks, about a million click-throughs, I hope the lawyers are happy! But once that's done, it's very nicely and clearly presented. Kudos. Worth the wait.

Yes. That’s all they need to do.

Do you know what happens when you sell a medical device in a market where it’s not approved? It’s called stop-sell. It means you can’t sell the device at all. That’s on top of fines and lawsuits. Don’t blame Apple here; blame the slow regulatory approval process.
