60 seconds to pitch, huh!?
It's enough to present ideas that won't solve a real and complex problem. It's those kinds of apps that a show should encourage, but that won't give sufficient audience, perhaps.

I guess it will be more boring social media apps.

Market share has decreased for 18% to about 12% globally (apl smartphones) and ASP went up (Plus)

Iphone is 70% of their revenues, tied to services, watch and airpods..to an extent Music and Mac
Competition is coming as smartphones 1.0 get "aged out". The iPhone will struggle when that happens.

They sort of really blew it with iPad and Watch...neither is self supporting and driving new.

I don't see any replacement on the horizon. Apl is not strong at cloud or services outside their eco. Many services inside need serious help .... ITunes, TV, music, iCloud, Maps.... not a smooth ride going forward from here. Plus they are way overweight with store employees, going to be sad when layoffs happen.

In the future its all cloud, devices themselves decrease in importance. It'll be everywhere and not walled off.

Remember if you compare same # of weeks , Iphone was down again. Eight may see a bump "10th anniversary" but what happens after? Hey AOL still has customers in 2017 so Apl will not go away.

So yes I will go out on that limb.

At what point do you look in the mirror and say to yourself, I can't do this anymore? I can't keep pretending and stating that Apple is doomed on these sites every day. Is it on the day that Apple's stock reaches its highest point ever? The day it grows to almost twice as valuable as the next most valuable company on earth?

Do you have to look away from your computer screen as you type:

  • Your astonishing claim that Apple "blew it" with the iPad, and that the iPad isn't "self-supporting" when it has now reached 85% of the market for tablets over $200 and nearly all the industry profits, in a year when it didn't introduce a new model!
  • That Apple isn't strong at services when you remember that Apple's services are growing exponentially and have now reached the point where just services produces more revenue than all of Facebook's combined revenue, and that Apple services are now the equivalent of a Fortune 100 company all by their lonesome?
  • Or when you write that Apple Music needs serious help but you recall that Apple Music has gone from zero to #2 in the entire world and is adding over a million paying users a month?
  • Perhaps, it's when you predict layoffs at Apple Stores when they are expanding them and Apple just set another record for the most sales per square foot with an astonishing $6K plus, nearly twice as much as number 2.
  • Is it when you say they blew it with the Apple Watch, yet Apple just had another record setting quarter of sales and they are selling as fast as Apple can make them, and most analyst's estimate is that Apple Watch has the vast majority of the market with most of the big players dropping out or delaying new versions as they try and figure out how to compete with AM?
OK, I will stop and let you recover. Where you go from here is up to you.

AOL, Nokia, BB....APL

1. Tablets are not 2in1 next,,,compare to 2in1 and its brutal
2. Music basically requires iPhone not many subscribers outside apl eco
3. Yes over employed stores globally.
4. Watch went from pathetic to not as pathetic in a pathetic sector.

Watch was hyped as a new Pillar, its other

Where is APl's competition? Samsung YES , Google kinda, Fitbit
That will change..on the agenda. About to get brutal for Apl.

Declines in MAC and Ipad is where MS operates. Soon in Pay, Phone ,home , health and wearables...will stress those too.

What a clown.

A a SP4 and a heavy OneDrive/Office365 user, I'm now planning on reading this. Microsoft are humbler and better under Nadella's stewardship, and I find Nadella himself to be a considered and thoughtful speaker (given he's still a CEO and will effectively shill only for his own company).

EDIT: Not out until later this year. Ah well.

I will certainly reading the book as well. I think that Nadella is the kind of CEO that Apple badly needs.

Sooo, it's a TV talent show about app developers on "AppleMusic" ....
Add to this hot garbage the fact that it looks exactly like the dozens of other "talent shows" out there:
right down to the camera angles, hosts demographic, editing style, etc., etc.

It is this, above all, that illustrates just why Tim Cook is an absolute misfit as Apple's CEO.

Looks like total US soap opera craziness. If Apple could just focus on developing the most amazing hardware and software. But no, they can only take features away (headphone, battery life) and make things thinner, and start to make reality TV shows. Sigh.

And on macOS all we got is #peakbugs :-/

Most people I know don't care about music and the artists behind it. They just want to download the music and listen to it.

That's what you sound like to me. I don't watch the Voice and other singing competitions but I know that millions do. Millions also watch Shark Tank which this also reminds me of. I think the only thing holding this show from truly big ratings is the fact that it's locked to the Apple Music platform.

Except the difference is that there are far more "average" people out there that are interested in music and music artists as opposed to app development and developers. Most people who enjoy a particular music artist would at least consider buying tickets to that artist's concert. Apple is betting that because a lot of people download a lot of apps, they're interested in learning more about the people who make apps and the process that app development follows. I'm not convinced that Apple's logic is correct.

Apple is showcasing a niche group of people on this show. They're not just showcasing entrepreneurs like Shark Tank does. They're showcasing a very small subset of entrepreneurs. I know Apple is very interested in this very small subset of entrepreneurs because they help drive Apple's bottom line. I'm simply not convinced that the average iOS device user shares the same level of interest (or has any interest at all, really) in app developers -- despite the fact that yes, a lot of people do download a lot of apps. We'll see what happens.

I rarely ever comment on any news about Apple but this is so horrifying to me, I feel ashamed for Apple. They now want to become a producer of reality tv shows for braindead couch potatoes? WTF? Please let this whole thing die a quick and very painful death...

I'm going blind. Since yesterday I interpreted the title as Planet Of The Apes.

I got all excited and then I finally read the thread... boo

Shows on Apple Music don't have to be about music because of MTV? Do you really want to copy MTV, Apple?

God, that show looks horrible. I don't even want these shows in Apple Music. I bet it'll just be another thing to clutter the UI even more with something that nobody uses... like "Connect."

I do not see the show catching on. To be fair, I don't like Shark Tank either, so there's that.

"Horrifying?" Woyzer! Sign of the times I guess. Can you ever imagine baby boomers or the greatest generation, those who fought in WWII to save our country from tyranny, describing the idea of a new TV show as "horrifying?"

This changes my whole concept about TV survival reality shows. I prefer watching Survivor..

I'm at a loss. Just painful and sad, like a 3rd rate cable station. This is just garbage. What the hell is happening to Apple? This is a sign of complete confusion as to an overall vision. Luckily Apple has money and inertia, but that's just legacy from Steve Jobs' vision, seriously, they have to fire Tim Cook in the next few years before he can do long lasting damage.

hard working super smart engineers being judged by clueless and mindless hollywood elitist and rappers

I didn't know jessica alba and williams were proficient with Xcode and Swift in order to judge someone else work

I'm thinking that a lot of really popular apps would never have made it with just 60 seconds.

Flappy Bird comes to mind. Can you imagine trying to describe such a dirt simple game as being valuable, and predicting its addictive outcome? :D

"Developers, they're the rock stars of right now," Will.i.am excitedly announced

Remember, only Apple Music subscribers have access to this program. So Apple knows that these people have a vested interest in their iPhones and apps. The "average consumer" doesn't really enter the conversation here.

Apple is showcasing a much broader group of experts here. Before Shark Tank, no one ever heard of any of the sharks except maybe for Mark Cuban. Every viewer knows exactly who these experts are because they're celebrities with possible exception of Gary V. but he gives the show credibility.

I'm not saying the show will be a hit but I will check it out which is much more than I'm willing to do for the average new reality TV competition show.
